Paddington indeed. Tim, railway collecting dog. An Irish Terrier owned by Inspector Bush of Paddington Station. From 1892 to 1902 he collected £450. On his death he was stuffed and placed on display at Paddington until the 1950s.

Extraordinary. So even in those days, he collected about £1 a week. Bet it was all in coppers, too.

Daily Mirror Headline today.

"POPE'S MASS BRAWL"

The Red-Tops are disgustingly poor, but you have to admit, they do come up with some clever Headlines.

Maria was supposed to sort me out a nice new Lappie months ago.

I reminded her on Wednesday. She waffled.

My Lappie died on Thursday - Christmas Eve. RIP Lappie, & gg 6 years worth of photos.

So I had to go Shopping. At Fosse Park. On Christmas Eve.

I went to Hell - PC World - was patronised by a Salesperson who, when I asked about the spec, read it parrot-fashion from the promo gumf on the Stand. "It has 53 gigagogs of bam & an Intel processor Inside". As opposed to outside.

I paid them to install everything, & set it up - a bargain at £150.

Opened PC - bingo, it worked perfectly. (Except it's a poncy new keyboard with the buttons in different places).

So, to work. I opened the first e-Mail. It said....

"Tony,....... by way of thank you.....have bought you a new Lappie for Xmas".

It has Windows 7. Ooooh!

VERY posh, with lots of little bells & whistles.

I'm using IE at the moment, but I will put Firefox on later. (These are called "Browsers"). I may try google Chrome too, I've heard good about that.

When I switched it off on Christmas Eve, it said "WINDOWS 7 IS INSTALLING 15 UPDATES".

When I switched it off on Christmas Day, it said "WINDOWS 7 IS INSTALLING 21 UPDATES".

Instead of tabs along the bottom of the screen, it has mini-views of each screen that is open.

It does other things too, I expect, but the instruction book was written in micro-type.

There's a stuffed dog at Slough station too.

Must have been a big thing to stuff em back in the day.

In Scotland, they still do it - while the dog is still alive.

Well you'd think that a new PC or Lappie would have all these things ready-fitted. Ridic.

Not allowed to any more. European Competition rules. Microsoft got sued by people because Windows Internet Explorer (among other programs) was pre-installed on Windows and pretty much uninstallable. In the ruling, Microsoft were ordered not to pre-install programs like IE and Windows Media Player.

....but both of them - IE, & Windows Media Player - WERE installed Mr Kaidus Sir.

Also installed, bizarrely, was an e-Bay application!

I've just done my first semi-nude scene on TV. I asked for the Set to be cleared first.

Hmmm. I'll have to look this one up, but I understood that Windows now wasn't going to come with WMP and IE, unless they've changed the uninstall mechanism.

Starting at some point next year Windows will give you a choice of browser when you first start it up.
