I know it's meant to be an inanimate item. But I'd take one of them (and an endless supply of batteries please).

Can I trade the religious book for another one?
The rules state "either the Bible or another appropriate religious or philosophical work", so I guess that's a yes. What would you take instead of the Bible? (You still get your regular "extra" book).
If it can be a series of volumes rather than a single book, then I guess that the
Encyclopedia Britannica
would be a good choice. All 32 volumes...
Sigh, are you trying to impersonate Cos?
No, that is your "regular" book, but you still get the Bible or "equivelant" religious tome.
It's all here.....

That was my equivalent to the bible. Or does it mean I have to pick another work of fiction to replace it?
Would you really not want to take a bible?
Personally I think a bible with a pencil attached for annotating it would be a very handy way to spend my time
Thinking about it the thin paper from a bible can make good skins - so, so long as a cetrain tropical herb has growing on the island, the bible's in mon

For my book I would take a good military survival handbook. Something like SurvivalIQ - The Wilderness Survival Handbook. Or The US Army Survival Manual. Or maybe Ray Mears Outdoor Survival Handbook. (If I could get a sneak preview of the terrain pre casting away, I could make a more informed choice)
With one of these and a little application, you could provide yourself with endless luxuries.
For my one "Allowed" luxury, I want a dog. I know that's against the rules, but I can be extraordinarily persuasive when I really want to be.
If, despite my best efforts, I definitely can't have a dog, I would consider it a luxury to be cast away on an island with wolves or foxes so that I could start my own domestication programme.
Coming back from london on a train one day we sat at a table seat next to the seat that Ray Mears was at Tom. The train broke down at Doncaster and we were sat for about 30 mins until the conductor came into our carraige and told us we would have to change trains and that would be in about 20-25 minutes.
Ray Mears, survival expert, then went into a rant about' what are we gonna do for the next 25 mins the eh? Just sit here and wait , I suppose. Is there anywhere on here I can still get a drink or a sandwich?'
the irony eh?

I've read a few of those stories Kev, endurance almost beyond belief.
If you get the chance, read The Railway Man by Eric Lomax. That's a corker.

Wayne Bridge has made himself unavailable for the World Cup squad Tony as he said his selection would be 'untenable and potentially divisive'.
So the guy that was let down by his childs mother and former best friend is now forced to withdraw from a squad because it might lead to a 'divisive' camp. Yet the guy that did the dirty on him still thinks he could be Engalnd captain again.

John Terry>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wayne Bridge obv. I
If this World cup is decided on being a decent bloke and not footballing ability, it might be a different story.

you have missed the bigger point tho, if John Terry thought anything about the best thing for Englands chances to win the World Cup he wouldnt have done what he did. What he thought was, I am above 'normal' rules so f** it.
That has led to one of the squad withdrawing from it, so that lessens the chances of England winning the cup, the point that Terry is a better footballer doesnt matter unless you are simply viewing it from a sports side, not a responsililty to your friends and colleagues and respect for things you do and things you dont do.
Wayne Bridge has done that but in the end he is the one paying the price of not going to a tournament that would give him a chance to win the highest accolade in his profession, where the villian could well do that.
Dont seem fair really

What would Bridge do if Terry was injured before South Africa - would he ask to be reinstated into the squad - or will he have burnt his bridges by then?

lol, but seriously, England would be down to their 3rd/4th choice(whoever they are) at left back because the then leader of the team's actions weakened the squad.
