I was perusing the latest "intake" of BlackBelt Poker for whatever reason, & there are a bunch of players who are vying for an Aussie Millions package, nice. Neil & his Team really does put some effort in over there, fair play to him, & they have nailed SEO in a quite extraordinary way. Quite how they overcome the i-Poker restraints on winning players is another matter altogether, though I think dilution of the win ratio via a bigger skin is the probable key.

Anyway, I'm not sure why it surprised me, but I note the latest intake (I think they are, or are trying to be, Brown Belts), includes M3Boy. I actually hope he binks the lot, but I rather thought he was not overly enthusiastic as to i-Poker. Needs must as the devil drives I guess, which is fair enough.

Only Connect is by far and away the best quiz programme on telly - Vicky Coren presents. A proper grown up show - it's on BBC4 so, therefore, no money for expensive bells and whistles.

Well done to Kev O'Leary on getting a deal with "Three Kings Poker".

I confess, I'd never heard of them, so he's in positive territory already, in raising awareness.

I asked around in Luton last night, & in Southend on Saturday, as to what Network they were on, but nobody seemed to know.

Anyone know, please?

One player said they had played a Freeroll there, but it was sparsely attended.

I wish Kev the very best with it, really, but any new Online Poker Room starting up these days needs to be pretty special even to get off the ground. The market is really tightening up, hard, & the Networks are hurting far & away the most. But if they have a niche angle - the smaller buy-in players, for example - they might succeed.

Good luck Kev & them, anyway.

Been trying to work this one out myself and failing miserably. Software is definitely nothing I have ever seen before though.

Robbie Savage is a revelation, is he not, as a pundit/host?

Out of this world.

Different, original, industrious, argumentative, but ready to mock himself. A big future awaits him in broadcasting when he eventually gives up playing. Quite an interesting character, too, in so many ways, most at odds with his on-pitch personna.

Never before have I tried to listen to a R5 football prog, but I do try to catch that.

If I get it right, he finishes his Saturday match, showers, then goes straight into a booth & does the Show. A hard working footballer, who'd have thought? I'd be surprised if the gig pays much, either. Maybe £1k, or thereabouts

correct, he finishes match and is driven to the nearest BBC regional studio where at 6.06pm he's ready to go

Not quite Danny Baker, for me, but a real talent and quite unexpectedly so

We'll have to get used to no Danny Baker for a while - there's something seriously up with him. Two weeks off the radio, and it's now nip and tuck as to whether he turns up for his show on BBC London every afternoon. He has said that he will definitely be off the air for several months after January.

tikay, as a fan of obscure information, have you ever caught Only Connect on BBC4? If not, you'd like it, I think. On this week's quiz, a team actually got a connection from 1 clue (out of 4), which is unheard of on that programme. The one clue was "Pugachev's Cobra". No googling/wiki-ing, anyone know it?

Never heard of it, I'm afraid.

The answer would likely be above me, but as I don't know what "Connect" is, I'd struggle even more. Is "BBC 4" Radio, or TV?

I'm afraid I can't watch any quiz show which has those childish electronic bings, buzzes, bells or bongs to indicate when someone wants to answer a question. Once it gets beyond a University Challenge stylee simple "buzz", it tilts me to death. Dumbing down ftw.

I try very hard to make sense of Radio 4's "Round Britain Quiz", but blimey, thats WAY over my head, too. There are some seriously clever folks about.

"Only Connect" is the programme, BBC 4 is the channel, on Sky or freeview. Generally much harder than university challenge, and no particular silly buzzy gimmicks. Two teams of three people each. And it's presented by Victoria Coren, who has an extraordinarily dry sense of humour. Although I'd imagine she could easily rub people up the wrong way.

I confess that I possess an uncanny ability to say the wrong thing to her at the wrong time, & unintentionally upset her. It's just timing, I think. "I thought you were caked up" immediately after she's suffered a monster bad-beat is probably not the ideal line.

I was scheduled to interview her at the London EPT, all booked with 'Stars, but that never happened. Maybe interviewing Miss Boeree first that day was not wise, either. (It was the day Liv's big money 'Stars signing was confirmed publically).

My admiration for her writing & broadcasting skills is immense. I'd certainly prefer Miss Coren over that dreadful Sandy Toksvig any day. Note that Sandy's Wiki page describes her as a "comedienne", which shows that even Wiki has a sense of humour.

I've just finished Ms Coren's book (For Richer For Poorer). Fantastic, I have to say. She writes very well.

Oh, and nobody is anywhere near with Pugachev's Cobra yet.

Is it:

Terms that are never used to describe chess openings?

Banned pages of the Kama Sutra?

Things that Pugachev drinks when having a curry?

you're half right, I said it was very slow (5 hands a level), but it was someone else that knew the network (thought it might have been you actually)

See, people exaggarate. One said 4hph, another 5, yet another, 6. (Can we "unexaggerate", as in "unsupport"?)

Seriously, it must be possible to identify the network?

5 hands a level.  levels were 7 minutes I think.  I'm gonna work on the network conundrum with my new spy friends.
