I'm currently reading Bill Bryson's biography of Shakespeare and this passage, about Shakespeare making up words, reminded me of you (and the word 'unsupport').

Quote
He was particularly prolific, as David Crystal, points out, when it came to attaching un-prefixes to existing words to make new words that no one had thought of before - unmask, unband, unlock, untie, unveil and no fewer than 309 others in a similar vein.

So, unsupport a word Shakespeare would be proud of!

I insta-thought that was one of the many beautiful bridges on Nevsky Boulevard in St Petersburg, but if Tighty knows it well, I'm obv a bit out there!

So, start again.

Canal Bridge?

That's it, I knew I recognised it.

Just up from Warwick Ave. underground.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so

The Grand Union goes further north, too....

The Grand Union itself goes to Birmingham, but there is a Leicester "spur", (not really Grand Union imo) so presumably that's the clue, as Tighty has Leicester sporting connections.

So, presumably, a Canal bridge near the Walkers Stadium in Leicester?

Nice bridge, as Canal bridges go, it must be said.

Our bridges are very much taken for granted. Most of them date back to Victorian times, & are as good today as the day they were built.

Brunel designed & supervised the construction of many on the GWR, & they are still ini use to this day, despite carrying much more than their intended design loadings.

His beautiful brick arch bridge over the Thames in Maidenhead confounded everyone, when it was built everyone said it must collapse, but it's still carrying Inter-City Expresses to this day.

I can't recall many bridge collapses (due to design failure) in the UK in my lifetme, though of course floods & suchlike tend to wash a few away now & then, but rarely involving loss of life. We drive or ride over or under hundreds of bridges every single day, never giving a passing thought to our safety. A remarkable testament to Civil Engineering.

I have been involved in the construction or reconstruction of a few. The Ribble Bridge in Preston, Orwell Bridge in Ipswich (or was it Norwich?), & Kelham Bridge in Newark, plus a few railway bridges, which are a bloody nightmare becaue of the need to "take possession" of the line, & the Railway peeps are a mare to work with.

I am honestly thinking of writing a book on bridges. Not entirely sure it'll be bestseller material, though.

There's a nice bridge just out the front of The Venetian. Exactly like the one in Rome. I had a photo taken, with me stood next to a gondolier, and the bridge in the background. It's great.
