James, has anyone ever called you James Cardigan? Whenever I see you on the tellybox I see Hartigan, I think Cardigan.
I like Cardigans, and also that lady from the band of the same name, so its not a dig.
A few have called me that, but they didn't live to tell the tale :-0

I'm prepared for it, the first time I was on Grub Smith made me look like a right plonker and I wasnt expecting it. If only I'd have come up with the line I though of hours after the show, which was "piss off Grub Smith you wiped a bogey under a table in the green room you big meany"

If you don't read GreekSteins diary - & most do - you must read it today.
It's taken a most interesting turn, & includes the most (imo) thoughtful & long Post I've ever seen by Dubai.
A must read. Worry not, it is not full of Hand Histories, just good debate.
Wouldn't mind your input on it! Head is all over the shop atm

I will if you are serious, but I have quite strong views on it, & I really don't want to get into a flamefest with "the boyz". But you see things a little different at my age. It's a corking debate, though, & I nearly Posted at 8am today, "this will be the best day on Greeky's Diary ever". And it has been.

To be fair, Grub was, err, one of a kind, shall we say. He never lasted long at Sky Poker.
I met him again recently, we played poker at the TV & arty types "Century Club" in Shaftesbury Avenue, with all the luvvies & beautiful people. He's really quite personable off-screen, different altogether. We eventually finished 1-2, & I had to dash to get the last train, mercilessly relieved for a peaceful 45 minutes of solitude on the train. I so miss peace & quiet, & I cherish such moments. And Grub was on the same train, going to the same place. We sat next to each other in total silence. No animosity or anything, but just very didfferent people.
I admire him in one way, in fact - he did a lot of TV Poker work, & Poker journalism, not bad for someone who, as far as I could see, had no poker credentials whatsoever. (Ditto Rich Orford, but he gets by through sheer force of personality & brilliant TV skills, & these days he is "handy" enough at poker for the level required). I sort of place Grub Smith in the same box as Ciolin Murray. Both have done extremely well for themselves, & have done so, seemingly, by means I can't outwardly see.
And yes, who am I to speak? It's hard to explain how these things happen, as (?) in Lake Wobegon Days said, after he accidentally abandoned his wife at a Gas Station & drove off without noticing her absence, leaving her to find her own way home. In my case, I can trace it all back, & it was just "right place, right time, & I got lucky". Worked hard to get lucky, mind.

Maybe even "results-orientated thinking".

If memory serves me correctly, Grub Smith has an unpleasant obsession with talking about anal sex at every available opportunity...
