There is a thinking / movement in racing that the big race days should be on a Saturday (I think the Ebor meeting at York will finish on a Saturday this year) but hopefully Cheltenham will stay Tuesday to Friday for some time (some people think it should be 5 days!!).

"Ascot Heath" was dropped a few years back & "Royal Ascot" now carries on to Saturday, which makes sense, the racing on the Saturday is still worthy of the "Royal" tag.

I'm off to Newbury on Saturday to produce their "Newbury TV" and then, in a couple of weeks, I'll be off to Liverpool for "Aintree TV".  I've been doing the Grand National gig for about 6 or 7 years now & it's great fun. I've never seen so much fake tan or so much flesh, regardless of the weather or the shape & size of the ladies.

This year will be a bit different for me as my right wrist / arm will still be in it's cast. I took a great tumble 3 weeks ago & broke my wrist quite badly, needing an operation to put a metal plate in to help the healing. I'm coping OK but I can't drive so I'm going to have to rely on other people to ferry me about, which I don't really like doing. And god knows how I'm going to put a shirt & tie on. Maybe RUK should employ a dresser for me Smiley

I feel I've now reached the age where I can fall over & break bones Sad

Surprised to hear that, Steve, you don't have far to fall really, at 4'-6". Hope it soon mends, though.

What a life you have now - Cheltenham, Aintree, Newbury. I get a lot of work in Luton, & Reading, mind.

lol, I may not have far to fall but I need to learn how to roll and not put my hand out in front of me. Plus I shouldn't got sprinting for a bus, like I was a 20yo, while under the influence!

I'm usually based in Teddington for work but they let me out now and again. We went on a shoot to a trainers yard & it's so good to be around the horses. They are the most loveable creatures but they can be quirky and down right dangerous too. Still, once the wrist has healed I'm vowing to ride more often.

Best Headline of the day, by a mile.

"Thumb that fell from the sky led to killers conviction". (The Times, Thursday March 24th.)

"A sadistic gangleader is facing a life sentence for the murder of a man whose severed thumb dropped out of the sky & into a car park, apparently from a birds beak. .....CCTV showed clear evidence of the thumb falling to the ground.......".

And from that, the thumb, which had been cleanly cut off with a bandsaw, traced back to something which resulted in a murder being uncovered. The case is currently being heard at St Albans Crown Court. Police are appealing for information about the rest of the body.

You are giving away your age there, Tom - poor Norman Vaughan has been dead nearly 10 years now.

And if the RSQ-ers had never heard of Elizabeth Taylor, they'll deffo struggle with Norman.

In what will be one of the most media-intensive "involuntary manslaughter" (= murder?) trials ever, starting May 9th, & expected to last 2 months, Jurors are being selected for the Court Case in Los Angeles to try "Dr" Conrad Murray.

Over 300 people have already filled in questionnaires to assess their suitability to be a juror in the case. The questionnaire is 160 pages long.

The Judge noted that he would prefer that the members of the jury had never heard of Michael Jackson, or knew of his lifestyle.

Seems a big ask, but some people had never heard of Michael's good friend Elizabeth Taylor, either, so I suppose it's not quite the lost cause it may seem.

The Trial promises to be a tacky affair, but TV Execs expect to sell advertising spots at industry-high prices.

Neil Channing was a superb Guest on last night's Show. Very eloquent, & hit the right balance when critiquing poor play, "message" means it's not exactly good for business to be anything less than respectful to paying Clients, but you have to point out the basic errors.

He was a shade heavy on the BBP spam - only to be expected, & he did not get a Show Fee, so fair enough - but we will be having him on the Show again, & he has signed up to our Live Cash Game, too, as have several other, err, notables. We need players with a bit of profile, rather than game-crushers, in truth, that's how TV poker is, but the list is coming along nicely now, after it stalled a bit due to my workload.

He's very amiable company, too, & we chatted about so much. He sort of transends old skool & kidz. I like him very much. He gets shoals of "give me money/stake me" requests daily, must be a bloody nightmare, & he explained the bizarre lengths some people go to to get a few bob.

By spooky chance, I wrote a few days ago about how I'd love to sit with Jeff Duvall while he played Omaha, with Jeff thinking out loud. We got around to chatting about people Neil admires, & Jeff was high up the list, (as were, of course, Camel, Simon Trumper, etc), & Neil had actually done EXACTLY what I had suggested I'd like to do, he had sat with Jeff & got Jeff to talk him through his thought process.

Jeff has the most peculiar way of measuring his cash-game profitability per hour, he has a "rating" for all the regulars who sit on his regular game. He listed a few. Chandra had an interesting rating.

The Show feedback was excellent, too.

As for me, I sat there like a spare part, barely contributed except as a link-man, but oddly enough, never suffered my usual insecurity phobia, & I was quite content to be a mere passenger.

I got a goodly few Texts, e-mails & PM's after, too, all saying what a great Show, & how good I was, particularly when saying nothing.

Methuselah sent me a text suggesting I did a great Harpo Marx impression on the show. I'm saying nothing.

I watched the show for the first time and thought Channing did an excellent job - called things as they should be called.

How much money would 'Neil Channing's Little Black Book of Stars' be worth.
