2) "Pot Raked at 10%" - does that mean they deduct 10% from the Prize Pool? Financially, that'd be like the difference in "Tax Paid" or not in Betting Shops until the Tax was abolished - i.e., not much difference, only winners pay really. But I hate the notion of Prize Pools being interfered with - that's the thin end of the wedge. I may be wrong, maybe it means something else, but if it means what I think it does, I shall resist strongly. Prize Pools must remain sacrosant. IMO, of course.

Let's hope I've got the wrong end of the stick.

No, we  - sorry I - will never be happy if they start taking money out of the Prize Pool. It's so much harder for many folks to know what the % deduction is that way. It could be 10%, 12.5%, 15%, & many would never realise. Prize Pools are not there to be messed with, however pure the intention.

£180 + £20 is fine. (by me). 10% off the Prize Pool - anything off the Prize Pool - is not. I'd accept, if I had to, £180 +£25, £30, or £40. But nothing off the Prize Pool. Purlease!

The change does mean the majority of players, who are losers, will lose less in an individual event, but it does mean a drop in ROI for winning players.

I'm not sure this statement stands up; If the rake has gone down from 12% to 11% the ROI has got to go up. Doesn't matter whether you're a winning player or a losing player, your average ROI must go up by about 1%. Doesn't matter if it's a £500 tourney, a £50 tourney, or a £45 tourney, ROI is a %. What might go down for winning player is the first prize money in what used to be a £50, but is now a £45.

Edit: Your HOURLY rate might go down a little of course, if the tournaments are slightly smaller.

In pure poker terms it cannot be deemed a good thing but in business terms it makes sense. On this forum we see a lot of enthusiasm for challenging -EV spots and rightly so. That can be in the shape of an individual hand on pha board or when somebody offers 70:30 on the staking board. I see opinionated dudes jumping all over it. Here everybody is high-fiving.

I really don't have a strong view on it, as I said. Times change, so do people. I would not even have commented had Ralphy boy not asked, thats how much it means to me these days.

I don't have a strong view on it. But I do like open discussion and looking at changes to poker from different angles. In threads involving DTD people keep posting about how awesome the rhubarb and custard is or whatever.

Possibly thats the answer, I don't know. I really think Walsall did not "present it" nearly as well. It was not, never, "no Reg Fee", & I don't thik DTD dressed it up as such.

What is really interesting is to see how contrasting the fortunes of the two rooms have been in those 4 years. Walsall used to be THE place for Tourneys, now DTD are different class, totally different class.

Quite sad in some ways, but life moves on & all that.

Several things have dramatically changed the Live Poker landscape in the last 10 years. 

I did remember that you were totally against deductions from poker prizepools Tony and your "thin end of the wedge" comment certainly stuck in my mind from that time, so I was wondering if your opinion has now changed.

For me the worry is that others will follow DTD's lead and exploit the situation in a manner that I would not expect DTD to do. I like all of us have a great deal of faith in DTD's integrity, but others might as you said use this as the thin end of the wedge and suddenly there is a further deduction for "staff gratuities" in effect subsidizing circuit dealers to be brought in for larger events, or the "bonus chips" supplement which is popular in LV and who knows what else.

Might be crap to you, not to me though. One mans meat is another mans poison, & all that.

I have never eaten "green", never will, I just don't like it. I am - was - a big eater of cheese, I adore it, but I've given up cheese whilst dieting.

Very happy with the current diet though - lost 12lbs in less than 2 weeks, pretty thrilled with that, it's quite some way ahead of the target I set myself.

why are you not in blonde will make you thin thread it helps a load....
