I like the legs, but the sub-caption was crass, so I've edited it out.
It's all about standards.
ooo it's like a little competition.
my guess is "what time do they open?"

Had a short holiday last week, & you'll be thrilled to know I took the camera.
Surprisingly, some of the photos are close to being interesting, but we have to eat our greens first, so I'd better start with the stuff with "limited interest".......
Nice Railway Station.
Pretty decent Station, actually, nice & light & airy. Liked it.

Looking east, the concrete structure is a Motorway. The logic of using the same piece of land for both railway & roads is excellent. Unless you live next to them.

Nice is beautiful, the Guide Books say.
Well yes, it's pretty nice, in fact. Every Town has a bad side though, this is what is known in Nice as "Scunthorpe Riviera".

Proper geeky this, but railway catenary is awesome, it's everywhere, but hardly anyone notices it. We'd be buggered without it though.

This is French catenary. Nice, eh?

The railway from Nice to Monaco hugs the coast the whole way, alternating between tunnels under rocky outcrops, to these incredible views. I took this from the train.

Not sure of the exact distance, but Nice to Monaco by rail is about 20, maybe 25, kilometres. The
return
fare was €6.50. I believe the minimum SINGLE fare on London Underground, (peak hours) for a single stop, which can be as short as 300 yards, is £4.30.

Monaco Railway Station, because of the peculiar topography of Monaco, which is basically a cliff, is dreadful, being built entirely in tunnel. Spotlessly clean, though, & one of the longerst stations I've ever seen. Boring, too.

......but this, on the platform, caught the eye, & was a clue to what I was about to see, smack-bang right outside the station......

but only american tourists and woodsey pay that. everyone else uses oyster and pays from £1.50 peak, £1.40 off peak
there is no peak fare if you use cash, tourists and woodsey have to pay £4.30 all day

Also some people manage to just walk the 300 yards if they're only going one stop.

Yup, Formula One is in town.
Miles & miles of Armco, chain-link fencing, advertising boards, grandstands, the whole works.
Must be really quite something to erect & dismantle all this lot every year, when F1 comes to town.
