That's just getting smart! It comes with age, you know, or some say it does......

I was away 3 days in total last week, slightly less in fact, flew out early Monday, flew back late Wednesday. Much as I loved every moment, I could not wait to come home, was at the airport three hours early for the homebound flight, got home at Midnight, and was at my desk 5am Thursday, happily attacking the backlog. Then things all went badly wrong, and I had my first "sick day" off work in 50 years on Friday, I was devastated!

But one car stood out a mile, head and shoulders above everything else, different gravy.

Proper class, this.

Anyway of knowing, from the reg plate, who owns it? Right-hand drive, sporting a UK car dealership sticker, with British magazines strewn around inside.

Proper head-turner, this.

Ooohhh....

Great pictures tikay, a real step up on previous efforts!

Sian's uncle; a small man with a huge heart, owns a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage.

The car had been involved in a crash previously where the owner swerved to avoid a dog, effectively writing it off.  The car that is.  Mr Uncle, who grew up in the swinging sixties, had always been a very big Aston Martin fan and he paid a substantial amount of money for the car and then lovingly and painstakingly restored it with original parts, collected from far and wide, at a cost of (as I understand it) £65k.  Unmarried, he worked evenings and weekends on the car for six years until just over a year ago, when he felt the car was near perfect enough to drive for the first time.  He'd turned over and tuned the engine of course, and probably touched every nut, bolt and part in the car - but he'd never actually driven it.  It was a quite a thing I can tell you and there was a lot of excitement when the big day came.  He sat in the improbably thick leather drivers seat; refurbished and reinstalled only days earlier, to find that in its most forward position, his feet couldn't reach the pedals.

Still, it's one hell of an ornament.

Oh my, GREAT story Des, amazing.

Glad to see you still pop into the Diary from time to time.

Which reminds me, I owe you an e-Mail over that other matter. Apologies, I got a bit snowed under with this & that - will reply today.

Hope all is well with Sian & you, & life is good.

I've been invited to head up to Leeds tomorrow & have Lunch with none other than RF. The insecure part of me worries when I get a Lunch invite from the Managing Director, you know how it is.

"Well Tony, firstly, I must say, what a pleasure it has been working with you these last 6 years........"

EXCELLENT interactive thingie on google today.

https://www.google.co.uk/

It celebrates the birth of the late Robert Moog, he of the synthesizer, without which the history of modern music would have been so........different. Thinking back through all the bands in the 70's & 80's, the supergroups, Dire Straits, Genesis, ELP, Culture Club, Soft Cell, everything would have been so different without Mr Moog.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Moog

There cannot be a single fan of modern music who has not heard of a Moog Synthesizer, even though perhaps not realising that it is named after the inventor.

But I never knew until today that "Moog" was pronounced as in "vogue".

So old, so ignorant.

Me too, Mr Tractor. What great things both are, & how neat is it that google remind us of them, & we can go for a little trip down memory lane.

The internet is a lovely thing. Mostly.

Not sure I thought that yesterday, when amongst other things, my colleagues & I next door were being described as "Hitler-like", & "Nazis", & accused of "violating human rights & free speech". Because a thread on a poker forum was closed.

I think a little sense of perspective is sometimes lacking on the interweb.

Actually, I think it's more a case of some people being unable to think for themselves, & just following the herd, completely devoid of original thought. Ever seen the brain-deads who summon up their entire cerebal powers to describe opposing football teams as "scum"? Well done boys, staggering stuff.

If that's the best they can manage, I despair despairingly.

Old ground, not really any point in digging it up.  But I will anyway!

I still find it totally ridiculous that you allow anyone with ^^ 'attributes' make the slightest bit of difference to your day/mood.

They get 5 seconds.  And that is 5 seconds more than they are worth.  Click.

Morning Irene.

Weight loss. Your concern is much appreciated, & well-intended, thank you, but we need to be realistic as to "losing too much weight", & you sound a little like my old granny used to. She was the one who told me "never take a bath after eating a banana, you will drown".  Yes yes, quite so Gran.

I've lost 2st 2lbs, but still weigh 11st 12lbs. I would place a wager that more than half the world's population weigh less than 10 stone, & get by just fine. If we exclude the mostly obese Americans, the bet would be nailed on. My weight loss if fine, my health is fine, & my energy levels are high, but thank you.

Last week's little ailment was a peculiar thing, caused by exposure to the sun. Not sunburn, just an allergic reaction.

I spent no more than 2 hours (in three seperate periods) in the sun on the beach in Nice on Wednesday, where the temperature was around 22c. (Vegas is nearly double that in June & July).  I came home to London on Wednesday evening & was fine.

On Thursday morning my left eye swoll (swelled?) up badly, see dreadful mug shot below, & by Thursday night both eyes were totally closed, my entire head had swollen grotesquely, I could not see a thing, & I was being described as "tomato head". Not, I confess, for the first time. It remained like that all Friday, (hence the days sickie), but was almost completely back to normal by Saturday morning. I still have some residual swelling & puffiness, but I'm hopeful my good looks have not been impaired unduly.  And no, I never went to a quack, or the hossie. The medicinal power of positive thought is immense.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about from a trip to Leeds Tony. I'm sure it's quite the opposite in fact, RF fretting that the day will come when you'll feel less inclined to give him 15 hours of your every day.  What a disaster that would be for them!

Please give RF my regards.  I haven't spoken to him since before Xmas and I regularly scour the industry press expecting to read that he's moved upstairs or to a competitor, or perhaps more likely, to lead a business in a completely different industry.  There are some really strong people at SB&G but he's the daddy.

Concerned to read about your feeling off form. Sounds like you're pushing too hard. Slow down a tad. 14 hours a day still gives a good return, eh?

Oh, and meant to ask you about a fine market doc that eGR or iGaming produced recently. RM was quoted in it.  Have you seen?

Ahh, an "I told you so" merchant. Guessed one would come along soon enough......

Seriously, do you really think that 2 hours (spread over three different 40 minute spells) in 22c needs sunscreen?

Guess I just have beautifully delicate skin & features.

Whereas I never fail to be amazed at the sheer creativity of football crowds & the songs & chants they invent. PC not bloody likely  - but there's some great work going on & some very funny stuff.
