Walking along the river bank from home to Hampton Court Bridge, it was just a regular day, dull grey clouds, & no sense of much happening. Even the geese were not bothered.

Cross the road to look eastwards (towards London) along the river, & still no sense of anything happening.

Hampton Court itself is on the opposite bank, teasingly peeping through the trees.

What a shame the sun is not shining, it changes everything. People smile when the sun shines. They do.

People are gathering on the bridge, though, this was at about 9am, & the race will not be coming through for a goodly while yet.

Now & then an "Official" goes past in his posh car, or a policeman on a motorbike, & everyone claps & cheers, blow whistles, Mums get their kids to wave their little flags.

The Police are everywhere, but just chatting with everyone, all smiley-wiley. I have no idea why there is so much anti-police feelng amongst some, they are just people, doing their job.

Lovely, just lovely "mood".

On the southern side of the bridge, there is a little square, with pavement cafes & all sorts, very French or Italian in style.

Here, the crowds were already gathering, & there was that background hubbub murmer.

Heading west, Hurst Road, which runs parallel with the River, & separates my place from the Thames, people are laying out there spaces, but no great crowds yet. (in real time, the bicycle race has just passed by, lots of cheering & excitement, & I missed it, fml!).

Now forget all that.

THIS was the "moment".

I walked past this house, & the gent said "Good morning", & I replied in kind, & we do the chit-chat thing.

"Would you like a cup of tea and a sausage sandwich?" he says.

"Ooh, I'd love to". And I sit down.

Shortly after, a lady comes out with a china teapot & two cups & saucers, and a huge sausage sarny for me.  "TY, TY".

She goes back in, & I tell the old fella that his wife makes a lovely cup of tea, & it WAS lovely. Tea taste is about circumstances, not taste as such.

"Your wife makes a grand cuppa".

"Oh no, that's my sister, my wife passed away in April, but she loved doing this sort of thing, & would have been in her element today".

Jesus Christ, it was all I could do not to burst into tears.

That will be my Olympic memory.

How lucky we are to be around when life is so good, & there really are lots & lots of decent people around us.

Thats it, I'm done for now.

Gotta go do my day job for a bit, & do some Posts next door saying that tonight & tomorrow's  Main Event Guarantee will be reduced due to the Olympics. You can imagine the sort of replies that will get, & I'll get a mouthful of abuse for being so inconsiderate.

What an amazing world we live in, the good, the bad, & the in-between, all of us living in our own little bubble.

The thing with he elderly Gent was that I almost declined his invite. Rush rush, things to do, but for some reason I said "yes".

And I've just realised that, inadvertently, he thinks I did HIM a favour, he was desperate for some company.

It was just lovely.

We all live in our own little bubble.

Must be older than Methuselah if Tikay is calling him elderly. Nice story BTW.

What a transformation from the inconvenience it was a couple of days ago.

It remains an inconvenience, a severe one for me, it will be very difficult for me to get to work tomorrow as all the exits from my house are closed & so I have to decamp to a ("an"?) Hotel tonight.

As I've said several times, I'm not usually into that sort of thing, but I'm trying to change.
