Have you thought about playing a no limit event before the main event? The golden nugget has an extremely god structure on the third. Binions tomorow also decent.

Yup, the plan is to play a couple of NLH things. I do still play it occasionally. I got all sorts of moves and stuff, y'know.

It was 45c (113f) in Vegas yesterday!

Not complaining, but strewth, that is plenty warm.

Light cloud cover, & a firm breeze this morning, we might just get a thunderstorm later today. Vegas rainstorms are the greatest, I'll get some photos of gushing downpipes & flooded car parks. Flat roofs, see? Makes a big difference compared to pitched roofs.

In total, I've spent about seven weeks in Vegas over the course of four visits. Seen about half a dozen spots of very light rain one day in April last year. That's it.

Played Limit Stud O8 yesterday, was tremendous fun. (But NOT on the stake, please note).

Did no good, but really enjoyed it, & I have the taste & want to play more of it now.

I was truly awful the first 4 levels, chasing too much, & abysmal starting hand selection, & was down to 4k from 12k early. Pretty embarrassing, in truth.

I sort of got the hang of it then, played far fewer pots, & tried to find better spots, especially heads up.

All the "bring-in" & "complete" stuff had my head spinning, but I eventualkly sussed it, & the Limit betting protocols.

The Tables I was on (4 different ones, I ended up, I think, 13th of 80), were so much fun.

On the first, there was a Lady, mid sixties, very mascauline, who threw a right trop every time she lost a hand. I so wish she had worn a hoodie. Proper nutcase.

Latee, a middle-aged Jewish chap was the greatest fun ever. he was King Chunter, he chuntered & moaned non-stop.

First, in a three way pot, Player A scooped the lot, & Jewish Chap then blamed the third player in the pot for "taking my cards". When were you still in the Pot, chasing the low, you took my ace you schmock. I win the hand if you fold". Third platyer fires back at him, & they go off on one.

Later, the Jewish chap got horribly coolered, he had been dealt wired aces, & filled up on 5th street, & played it cute.  Unbeknown to him, 80 year old Black Chap, seen it all before, had wired deuces, & hit QUADS on the river!

Well, you've never heard such a moan in your life, he stood up, shouted, went & told everyone in the room, chunter chunter chunter. I could not help myself, I just burst out laughing at the sheer comedy, as did everyone else, so he kicked off again. He busted shortly after, & trundled away, still chuntering to himself.

What fun Limit Stud O8 is, you get a really eccentric crowd playing that stuff.

Pretty sure it was the day Encore opened. Or Wynn. Won of those anyway.

Am in a serious dither today as to what I will play.

I have narrowed it down to this choice....

Caesars Palace, Noon, $240 NLH. I really ought to play a NLH Tourney, not played one for 5 or 6 months, maybe even this year. I cashed in one at DTD in November, I think, & can barely recall playing one since. But it's like riding a bike, you never forget, & I have a programmed way of playing NLH. ("Badly"?.....).

Venetian, 11am, $600 Omaha 8/Stud 8. I assume this is Limit, if it were PL I'd not miss it for the world. Just think $600 is a bit much when I am so awful at Limit. Would be amazing fun though. Hmm, set fire to $600.....

Venetian, 4pm, $1,100 PLO. I adore PLO, 2nd only to PLO8, but at $1,100, this will attract the better players, & I'm almost certainly the value.

In almost any size PLO8, I now genuinely believe in myself, & would have a decent shot at cashing, but $600 for Limit stud/Omaha 8, or $1,100 for PLO, not so much. Gotta know where to draw the line as to ability.

Incidentally, whatever I play today will NOT be on the Stake, (nor was yesterday), I am just not good enough in these particular ones.

If I play the $240 Caesars PLO on Wednesday, and/or the $365 Rio Carnevale PLO tomorrow, these WILL be on the stake, as we seemngly agreed yesterday. (The $240 Caesars was part of the original, agreed, schedule).

Most likely? The $240 NLH @ Caesars, at Noon.

Bring back the PLO8 stuff I say.

Def play the Caesars thing. After all, you will be done from there in plenty of time to make the PLO at 4pm innit.

Tikay, you know about trains...

I'm currently sitting at Birmingham Snow Hill choo-choo station, as my train is delayed.

Why is it delayed, Tal?
I pretend I heard you ask. Well.

You know the lady who does all the prerecorded announcements? Turns out she recorded more than the stops and a couple of standard "London Midland apologises for this train being made of balsa wood and sticky back plastic".

The train in front of mine is also delayed and that, we learn, is the problem. A slightly robotic lady enunciated the following over the tannoy:

"The 17.22 service to Dorridge is delayed. This is due to disruptive passengers"

Disruptive passengers?

DISRUPTIVE PASSENGERS?!

This got me imagining the day she did the recording session.

"This is due to a delayed preceding service"
"This is due to a signal failure"
"This is due to today's inclement weather"

Just a couple more, please, Melanie:

"This is due to disruptive passengers"
"This is due to the enslavement of mankind by cyborgs from the future - damn you John Connor!"
"This is due to the driver suffering from Bradford AND Bingley"
"This is due to a late-running episode of Bargain Hunt"

Are there any others, Tikay?

Birmingham Snow Hill was a magnificent, Cathedral-like edifice back in the day, the exact opposite of it's ghastly new neighbour, Birmingham New Street, which I rank as truly the UK's worst railway station by a considerable distance.

Snow Hill used to be part of the Great Wesrern Railway empire, & was on the now long defunct Paddington to Wolverhampton via Birmingham line.  Now sadly, it has been demolished/tarted up & it a sort of Toytown Station with trams & all sorts there. The original perished during the Birmingham building boom which I much regret I had much involvement in.

The 2nd & the last of the photos below features an iconic GWR "King" or "Castle" Class loco. Ooohhhh.

I remember the photo of snow in Vegas that Jim Posted, so I searched for "Snow" in my Diary & found this.

Incred, or what?

Just Seth Palansky & myself in the Media Centre, as usual at this time of morning, both of us tap-tapping away in our respective corners. We are good friends, but thats another story.

Suddenly, I hear the National Anthem being played in the Media Centre. OUR one.

Almost by instinct, I stand up, respectfully & self-consciously.

Seth laughs.

What's that all about Seth?

Oh, I'm just making sure we have the correct version this time Tony

And it was then I remembered that debacle when John Kabbaj won his WSOP Bracelet, what was it, 5 years ago? Saw John last week actually, playing OFC. Think he lives in Austria now.

Memories......

Seth then gave the mandatory rubs.

First time your anthem has been needed this year......
