Surprised I haven't seen a photo of either:
- the Bellagio cafe garden; or
- the mallards that occasionally frequent the fountain outside Caesar's.
Would you oblige, please? I'm missing the place already.
On the case.
There are a lot of very tiny sparrows here, much smaller than their European cousins. They thrive on the cake crumbs outside Starbucks in Fremont Street.
I actually have a Las Vegas sparrow story, pictures & everything. Very sad it is, too. On the list.

When I was there with Tom, I think it was, we saw a few mallards, four or five of them, all sat in a row in the shadow of a lamp-post opposite The Venetian after we got off the deuce bus from downtown and walked to the crossing.
It would have been a great photo but neither of us had a camera at the time.

Surprised I never saw them the other day. Did you know I walked - WALKED - all the way from Venetian, to Caesars? Must be three miles if it was an inch.
Curious where they must reside, there is very little by way of ponds or open water in Las Vegas strip area, the ornamental things at TI & Bellagio excepted.

Did you realise that it was the 75th anniversary of this?

No, but thanks Carl.
Not much of a "Mallard" fan myself.
The streamling is so wrong, as is the dreadful colour. Locomotives should be black, or GWR Green.
Never much of an LNER fan, either, poor designers & Engineers. Mallard was designed & engineered by Sir Nigel Gresley, but he could not hold a light to the main man, Charles Collett, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Great Western Railway, Swindon Works.
Collett was the best - he designed the King & Castle Classes.
I was in the National Railway Museum in York recently, & could not bring myself to even look at Mallard. Hideous. It is all about class, & dignity, or lack of. Blue indeed. Ugh.
Isn't that like football supporters, but with trains?

We were there in Oct./Nov. and I doubt that they're daft enough to be out this time of year. Mad dogs Englishmen and the DTD golf-day with the noon tee-off excluded of course.

I liked the fact u entered into the Vamplew chat yesterday, it's good to see there's still decent people about who don't wanna join the pack. Also thought George spoke a lot of sense and good to see JP Kelly tweeting his congrats/gg to David afterwards, despite being mates with a lot of the guys who were on the wind up (to put it politely).
Loving your diary, will u get a chance to play some while working? Bit of cash maybe? Gl today, look forward to the updates...

Did it rain? Been waiting for the pics
Nope, false alarm.
Never known it so hot here. Some sort of minor USA "Bank Holiday" tomorrow, too, so everyone will be on holiday & enjoying the weather.
Don't miss the July 4th highlight that is the hot dog eating championship Tony. Usually live on ESPN, the over/under for dogs eaten by the winner (almost certainly Joey Chestnut) is currently about 63.5.
Will either make you hungry or put you off eating for the rest of the day tho.
Loving the diary btw, gl in the big one.

tikay didn't appear to be overly impressed in 2010.
Maybe they should introduce a sticky bun competition.

I'm still trying to get my head round this "International Federation of Competitive Eating" & "Major League Eating".
It can't be real, can it?

Thanks Phil, and what a shame you could not be here this year, ditto so many others, for a variety of reasons.
I generally write a piece about that Hot Dog thing every year, including multiple winner Joey Chestnut. Have to say, I find the whole thing obscene, but hey, only in America.......
Hope the family are well, look forward to catching up with you soon.

GET OUT OF THAT
Absolute carnage in the Caesars $240, chips are flying in all directions.
How about this for an incredible coup?
Three of us go to war, two of us with Aces, one with Kings.
Both of us with the aces had a king. So K-K man is in bad shape. He is an Aussie, so the craic is incredible.
The other fellow with the Aces is a regular at Brighton Rendezvous, we have known each other for years. He likes to gamble. He has A-A-K-5. Note the dangler. Gotta love danglers.
Flop is a wicked affair....
10-5-5
Am in such a deep hole here, assumed I was dead.
Turn...
10
River...
10
Ha! The Great Escape.
What a great game Omaha is, but if you cannot handle the beats, steer clear.

Need to find out what odds I was to get out of that with a chop. Must have been well thin.

Got 35,000, from 20,000, at first break.
Blinds now 300-600, and it has played VERY fast so far. Maybe it will calm down now the re-entries have closed, but it has an end of season feel to it, and everyone is gambling for stacks.
Am playing super aggro today, by my standards anyway, proper gamble job.
Managed a terrific treble up pre break. Raised UTG, called in 5 spots, and I come along round the back with.....
The flop was 2-5-10 (no suits) and once the raising war concluded, I was heads up with 5-5 man, then pinged the wheel on the turn, and swerved the pair up.
Shocking play really, feels bad/dirty, but I did say I needed to get a bit more creative and use a bit of imagination. Was fun, too.
