Of late, I keep seeing the expression, in poker, "pure bubble".
What is the difference between "pure bubble", and "bubble"?
"bubble" is close to the "pure bubble" which is right on the number.
Bubble is bubble, surely.
Close to the bubble is exactly that......close to the bubble, surely?
If not, where do we draw the line. "I bubbled" could mean we missed the money by miles.
Often on say 'stars it pretty much is the bubble though. When there are 1000s of players you may be one of 30-40 players that goes out in the same round of hands, during which the bubble will burst. You may finish 20 off the money, but would of been itm if you folded/won the hand
Yes, I see that, but 20 off the money is not the bubble and never was. 8,000+ play the WSOP Main, but there is only one bubble. But it sounds better when telling the tale of woe I suppose.
"How did you get on?"
"Pure bubble"
"Sick"
The main event, as all live tournies, everyone knows it's bubble time and play slows down. Feck they go around announcing the all ins at the wsop.
Online you don't even realise it is the bubble until it has burst.
Do agree though that many players say they bubbled when they weren't that close

Watching the Great North Run on TV.
Over 55,000 runners taking part, how extraordinary. Imagine the logistics of that. Like trying to marshal the crowd at a big football match, but the crowd travels 12 miles.
It has everything to admire in society, too. Police are only needed for H & S reasons, no bad blood, & most runners doing it for Charity. The "Elite" race holds no interest to me whatsoever, but good to see Mo Farrah in it.
We see & hear plenty of bad, but this is gold. Sorry,
pure
gold.
I find it all incredibly emotional to see so much condensed goodness. Which will make not a bit of sense to anyone. When the stragglers cross the line, I'll be welling up, honestly. Am definitely losing the plot here.

It's the same as centre and dead centre, dead and stone dead etc.
In Glasgow some say "pure dead brilliant" to mean outstandingly brilliant, so I suppose "stone dead" could be pure dead dead

Embarrassingly some 'advertising advisor' decided that would be a great slogan for Prestwick Airport....
Not a popular choice & I don't think dead should be in a slogan for an airport - although the other suggestion with a burns reference didn't engender confidence either.

I don't see the damage it could do - airports call their buildings Terminals, after all.

Having never experienced any of the bigger races in this country (yet - fingers crossed for London Marathon next year) I can't comment on those, but have to say that the atmosphere when we ran the Berlin Marathon last year was just amazing.
Over 40k runners, but if anyone can do logistics, it's the Germans. The whole thing was impeccably run, started right on time. As you say, such a feel good vibe - everyone there not only for the personal challenge, but a great deal running for good causes also. People gathered from all over the world and such a vibe of 'we're in this together', not to mention the support from the crowds. Names were printed on our numbers and hearing a stranger who can maybe see you struggling a bit towards the end shouting 'go on Claire, you can do it - amazing job' goes a very long way to helping you along. Wish I could bottle the feeling - just incredible really. The feeling crossing that finish line is right up there among the best moments of my life.
So yes, what you say makes perfect sense to me, and I totally get it. There's a lot of crap in the world, and, whilst it's right that we don't forget how many people suffer daily, there is also a hell of a lot of good, and that's something else we mustn't lose sight of.

Hey Pop's
We went to a faily unique venue for a wedding reception on Saturday evening held at the East Anglian Railway Museum
http://www.earm.co.uk/
which is well worth a visit if you have never been and are ever in the Colchester area.
A little bit of diary porn for you.

Good man you, glad to see you are starting him off right. Can't believe how big they are now. Mrs Kral looks wonderful, too.
Love the photo of Matey Boy in the Signal Box. A Signal Box is a thing of wonder to a toddler.
Must have been quite a Wedding Reception. Perchance, I spoke to, or had contact with, several of your fellow degens yesterday (shallow, grumpy types), & both had been to a Wedding Reception on Saturday at which copious amounts of alcohol were reported to be flowing. Quite a coincidence.
PSD - Congrats on buying some of Doobs action last night in the big Winamax thing, you are virtually guaranteed a profit, well done you, fully deserved, hope he wins the whole €80,000, that'll be a nice little payday for you.

You don't have any of his action? Ooh, I am so sorry, I never realised. I am really surprised, I think you should have tried to get a bit.
Fingers crossed he does the business tonight, so I can pay off my debts for other less succesful stakes.

The way the mind works, Part 93
I awoke this morning to see on blonde that Dubai won the
$10k WCOOP
PLO last night.
Great news. "Hero"
.
I have some action in a package that Dubai sold for a specific basket of FTOPS & WCOOP Tourneys.
Even better news
.
Checked the thread to see how much I had. 2.5%.
Very nice. Fantastic news
.
Then realised that the $10k PLO was NOT in the package.
He's a tosser
.
PS - Well done Mr Dubai. 100% pleased & delighted. Well, 97.5%.
$215 PLO surely. Talking of non holdem games are you tempted to go to Vegas November for the Venetian DSE? Plenty of none holdem events on the schedule. Im dithering so far
Dithering here, too, but unlikely, I would think.
Its just a bit too much money really, the flight & hotel are the best part of £1,500, plus the Buy-Ins.
BA currently have a sale. as do Virgin.
However, for the
cheapskates
nits among us, I have managed to find something different. AA (American Airlines, not the car people) fly direct from Heathrow to Los Angeles. They've just stuck one of their newest planes on that route
if you fly the 12 noon departure
- a Boeing 777-300. I'll let tikay go into more detail on the plane.
The reason I am suggesting this is twofold. One - it is cheaper to connect via LA than fly direct and very simple to book. Two - this particular flight is the only transatlantic flight that has plug sockets for your laptop and wi-fi whilst travelling. Anybody should be able to survive a flight to the West Coast with these amenities.
Currently, on the AA website, that flight flying for a week from 13/11/13 to 20/11/13 costs £568.65. To fly direct, with BA,
in the sale
, costs £660.45.
Thanks Adam. I had not forgotten this, but was trying to resist.....
Not sure I'd fancy a two part flight to & from Vegas, especially the return, but it was good to know BA have a sale on, so thanks for Posting.
I'm a very doubtful runner, and I'd not entertain the idea unless I could play PLO8 most days, with the occasionmal PLO or Stud tourney. Not interersted in going there to play NLH or PLH.
If I can convince myself to presss the "BOOK" button, I'd rather do the Scottish Highlands in truth. All that scenery, isolation, & no internet. Ooohhhh....
Good luck on your trip though, & I hope all is good with you & Joobs.

All is fine, thank you, although this time I'm leaving Joobs at home and going with the APAT crew (Ger, Paul Davis etc) so am slightly fearful! I think vegaslover is joining us as well to play the scheduled APAT event.
If you do decide to book, I think Virgin are cheaper for all dates bar November 7th. As nearly everyone going is on that plane, I would probably recommend swerving it, it will be slightly raucous! Looking at the schedule for the DSE, they have non holdem events on the 4th/7th/8th/11th/12th/13th, then a break until 18th/19th/21st.
Not that I'm trying to persuade you to come out or anything...
