Scary...was looking for DVD of this in FOPP in Nottingham yesterday. Great film, even knowing the ending doesn't spoil it. Kenneth More one of my favourite film actors

And on a similar note.......am I the only one who struggles to define the line between arrogence & confidence?

The oddity being confidence is a lovely thing to see, especially in younger people.

Arrogance, not so much, EXCEPT where, ahem, the cap fits. I adore arrogance by the right people, & loathe it in the wrong people.

In the right person, it is truly a thing of beauty.

Some great examples of rightful arrogance here......

Was reading a book last night, it was Business stuff, but it quoted this expression, which really struck a chord. It sounds almost Biblical.

The exalted will be humbled, & the humble will be exalted

The Biblical equivalent would likely be "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth"

Maybe, but in current usage, surely "meek" & "humble" (or humility) are different things?

Surely, these days, to be seen to be meek implies weakness of personality or character? I know that is not the true meaning (or I do now.....), but most of us equate meekness to weakness, surely?

Whereas, surely, humility is a plus, usually seen as an admirable trait?

In that context, meek is definitely synonymous with humility. That is my understanding anyway.

The admirable honeybadger started a thread yesterday which gained much admiration, except from me.....

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=62354.0

I had to give his some thought last night, because I could not figure why I found it so bland & unfunny, & everyone else fell over laughing.

Then I realised - I see these sort of e-Mails every day. It's what folks send to Online Poker rooms all the time. So the novelty had worn off, I suppose, familiarity & all that.

I can't think of a single example of disagreeing with Stu previously, hence it bothered me.

Anyway, itt, NEWY mentioned the spider e-mail. I guess we all have differing senses of humour, & just as well, but I'm so glad he mentioned that, I've been looking for an excuse to post it for ages.

When I first read this, it seemed to me to be the greatest thing ever, especially (at the time) as to that most important thing when we set out to be funny, or amuse - originality.

Even now, I still admire it. A little bit of original thinking goes a very long way.

This is Ralph's photo.

We can safely assume Ralph was golfing at the time in Wollaton Park, in Nottingham, a very fine golf course, with a Stately Home (well, semi-ruin) & herds of deery type things.

This time of year is the rutting season, & unlike humans, Deer prefer to copulate only at certain times of the year, whereas regular folks do it every night.

Deer, of course, have an Aplha-male, who, by right, shags everything in sight. They don't 'arf get mardy if you get too near when they have got that mood on them.

Anyone heard from Karabiner in the last day or two?

Oh, there's a kestrel in the photo, too. Well Ralph said there was.

That's a dangerous situation - one of those buggers can make a mess of you.

This guy was attacked by a pet deer:

This was in Oklahoma - so likely a white tailed deer, a fair bit smaller than the red in the picture.

Not wrong Rod.

Karabiner's e-Mail to me which included the photo was entitled "Would this put you off on the tee?"

Dead right it damn well would!

You need some front to make an entrance like that before a boxing match, if the other guys knocks your lights out, you don't 'arf look daft.

Same with Pro golfers.

You don't wanna be snap-hooking it off the tee if you dress - or dressed - like this.

Thanks Nick.

Dunno who this Matthew chap was, but he talked some sense. I got him right up there with Robbie.

Shares in British bookmaker Ladbrokes rose sharply on Wednesday and continue to climb following an investor purchasing 21.8 million shares at 170p, worth £37.1 million.

As the amount of shares purchased were under the 3 percent disclosure limit – a publically listed company has to disclose information of any shareholder who holds 3 percent of the company – the details of the investor remain a mystery, but sources in the city suggest it is Playtech founder Teddy Sagi.

Ladbrokes hired Playtech earlier this year to aid in the overhaul of its digital betting business, an area of Ladbrokes that is massively underperforming and is the main cause of at least four profit warnings in the past 18 months. Two weeks ago, Ladbrokes CEO Richard Glynn caused an uproar among company shareholders when he revealed profits stemming from the group’s digital division would be up to £17.5 million lower than expected this year.

Analysts do not think a takeover bid from Playtech is imminent, but have not ruled it out. Ladbrokes’ current share price values the company at £1,731.66 million, almost £500 million less than Playtech’s current market capitalisation.

Playtech is cash-rich at present, having sold its 29 percent stake in William Hill Online in April for £424 million, five years after acquiring that stake for £170 million. The company has already bought PokerStrategy.com for €38.3 million and could see Ladbrokes as the perfect company to invest in next.

The failings at Ladbrokes have not gone unnoticed in the investment world and there are rumours circulating of a bid for the company from CVC Capital, who you may recall purchased a 75 percent stake in online payment processor Skrill in August and were cited as possible buyers of Betfair for $1.5 billion in May.

At time of writing, Ladbrokes shares have risen 4.84% on Thursday to 188.50p while Playtech’s have risen 1.25% to 727.50p.
