Channel 549 now. The Elephant Who Loved Too Much.

Aisha and Daphne!

Thanks Tom, am recording it, too tired to enjoy it tonight, but I'll save it for a treat later in the week.

Love elephants (and hippos). I would marry one if I had not pledged myself to Louise Fletcher, or signalled to Vicki Coren that I'd be receptive to her.

Cradle snatcher.

What?

80 year old Karl Lagerfeld's "long term" boyfriend is 20.

The bold bit is what made me laugh. Ended up with an image of you presenting a display like a lustful peacock, parading around the Vic with all the lascivious zeal of the season. Mrs Coren-Mitchell doing her best to resist and play hard to get.

Now I shall forever be intrigued as to what that was going to be......

Psychologically, that's a proper head mashing job.

He's gone from posting the same thing a hundred times to posting nothing once Smiley

I saw it, was a post about dogs at belle vue, that belonged on TFT. It's been replicated there.

Totally as Celtic says.  Nothing underhand going on at all! I just couldnt find a way to delete a post when modifying without leaving something in the box that's why the dot appeared.

Did you cry at the end Tom? I bet you did. I know I did, damn you.

This was the Lady who looked after Aisha. Proper heroine in my daft little mind.

this is very very good news! Just had a quick search of the image bank and lots of fantastic ones from across the last 100 years. Will be able to use some on my blog now and not worry about copyright.

Strolled down the Dealey Plaza today Tikay. As I remember you are a big fan of the JFK story. I thought the atmosphere was quite strange & surreal. The area is instantly recognisable and the book depository is a museum where you can stand exactly where LHO took aim and see his line of sight to the road below. There's 2 Xs on the road where the shots hit home. Really quite eerie. Have you ever been/would like to go??

Funny though how I've never heard the term grassy knoll used outside of this one incident and yet it's an instantly recognisable saying.

Wow, I'm jealous!

What made you visit Texas, & is it everything you expected?

And yes, I must have read every book on the whole JFK assassination, & the entire Warren Commission report, end to end.

It was my first experience of "conspiracy theories", though since I've been in poker, I've gotten more used to seeing it, always from the same sort of individuals.

The death of JFK was my first "I recall where I was when he died" moment. I was 14, which of course is a very impressionable age, & I was just emerging from my illiteracy problems, so I was devouring all written material like there was no tomorrow. Those days, it was more "hard facts" (which I adore) rather than the sort of speculation which passes as news in the modern world.

And yes, “grassy knoll” seems only to have context with that single event, strange that a phrase should come to be used once only (for the most part) & on no other occasion. It perfectly describes the location, too, but I’m sure there are zillions of grassy knowls worldwide.

I only have 4 "I remember where I was when they died" moments in my entire life, leaving aside my Dad, which is a different thing really, we all remember that moment.

JFK

John Lennon

Princess Di

The two British Soldiers in Northern Ireland who were dragged from their car & beaten to death.

Strange how different things & events stick in our mind.

In sport, my earliest & most vivid recollection was England winning the World Cup in 1966. I was in Walton-on-Naze, on holiday in a caravan, & we all watched it (in black & white) through the window of a Radio Rentals Shop, lol.

When we got back home, we rented a TV from Radio Rentals, 10/- per week. Nobody rents TV these days, of course, though I’m not sure why, especially as they cost so much these days & technology means we keep changing them. The world changes so.

As you may by now have noticed, I have a bit of a thing for Miss Vicky Coren. Really, that's part chirp, & part excuse to explain that on Monday, I shared a table for 3 with Miss C & Lord Grumpy. Yup, photo to follow. It was wonderful, & she was in her usual fine form. Sher got a gong, too. "Best Social Media-er" or somesuch.

I previously Posted in here as to the achingly dreadful thread about Miss C on 2+2. I mean, really, taste & manners seem to play no part in that place.

Anyway, I was idly looking for something the other evening, & came across the website below. God only knows how Vicky copes with lurkers like these. Yes yes, I'm a HUGE fan, & I do follow everything she does, but jeez, this lad has got it real bad. Slightly unsettling, actually.

I don't think it's bad. It's a colloquialism, rather than being technically correct, I grant you.

Would people really prefer "that which"? I could have taken "is what" out entirely and it would probably have been better.

Alternatively...

It's when people confuse concrete and cement; that is that which gets to me.

Cheltenham festival next week? That is that about which I am talking.

I am reminded of the Morecambe and Wise recurring joke, though, about the play what I wrote. And Glenda Jackson 's Cleopatra having such radiant beauty like what I have got.

That must have been awkward towards the end of the night, with two of you having awards...

For my memory bank, a reminder of a very odd & unexpected evening. (Eat your heart out David3103).

At 1pm, I was expecting a quiet night indoors in the evening, until I was sort of duped by Lord Grumps on some daft excuse to join him in London for the evening.

Hours later, I was sitting (sat?) on a front row, reserved, table for 3, with Vicky Coren & Lord Grumps, the latter wearing, if I may make so bold, a jacket last seen in fashonable circles in the mid-fifties. I mean, really, it was dreadful. The man has no dress sense whatsoever. I was in my velvet jobbie, of course.

Anyway, a lovely reminder of an evening that mean't more to me than it probably should.

They got their gongs at the very beginning, & I was mentally composing a Diary story along those very lines, "table for 3, but only two gongs, three is always a crowd". That turned out differently to what I had expected, & so ruined my planned story.
