6 bob for a wee.

Blimey! It sounds a lot when you say it like that.

When you think what we used to get for 6 bob, it is a lot. To be fair, you could have a full bowel evacuation for the same 6 bob. Sort of BOGOF.

I used to get 5 Woodbines, & half a pint of mild ale, & there would be 4 bob left for the rest of the week. Petrol was 5 bob a gallon at the time.

Snooker cost two shillings an hour for the light, and we though it was robbery.

For the purposes of comparing that with something, for context, an evening's snooker was a third of a wee. We can measures all sorts of things by the cost of a wee.

Don't get this stuff on Pleno's diary.

China uses 150% more concrete  in 3 years than America used in the whole 20th Century.

I remember in the old days in Vegas, casinos used to go up with breathtraking speed.

I once went for thr the start of the wsop and the foundations had just been laid for a new casino (think it was the Venetian). I flew home for a few weeks before going back out for the main event.

The casino was virtually finished. Inside a month.

I remember watching a documentary on the construction of the Palazzo, and it was amazing how quickly they knocked them up.

Couldn't find that, but found one on City Center

Any spam? Of course, but only at the bottom.  Look away when you get to that bit.

Thank you very much, some crackers there.

Exactly what a proper station should look like.

Meanwhile, in surprise domestic news, great excitement beckons in about a month's time - the Richmond Autumn Riverside Run, which is a nice, gentle, flat 10 kilometres.

http://thefixevents.com/richmond-autumn-riverside-10k-2015

Going to recce the course tomorrow, sort out where to park the car in the morning, all that stuff.

Any tips or hints as to what a novice runner - well, jogger - should do by way of preparation, & what to take on the run, by way of water etc?

Tikay, would like some advice on Vegas old town please.

We're thinking of staying there next May/June after spending a couple nights on Strip.....4Queens is coming up very cheap for a week @ about £230 and no resort fee. Have you stayed there? Thoughts?

What are games like on Freemont St? Is there enough $1/$2 games kicking about at all hours to keep me busy doing my bollocks? Appreciate you prefer that 4 card garbage....

What time do the busses to the Strip end? Or are they 24/7?

In my 4 trips to Vegas, I've only been up to Freemont St once and only played the one MTT there (somehow my 6 high all in bluff on the river got picked off), so my knowledge of all things old town isn't too good. But I know you love it there so any advice would be much appreciated.

TIA.

Hi Big Man,

I love Downtown, no trip to Vegas should be without some time Downtown, but have never stayed there, & never played cash there.

We have some genuine Vegas experts here, far better versed than me, in guys like Marky147 (careful, he's a genuine degen), Simon Galloway (old school, posh, quite sensible at times), and Methuselah himself, Karabiner, who knows all the dives, spielers, & that Glitter Gulp place too, I would imagine.

The best thread for your question - my Diary audience is pretty small these day - is this thread, here.....

Post it there, & you'll get chapter & verse, I promise.

On the subject of "small", did we ever discover the identity of "Fatlad"?

I have heard people say the sofa to 10k things are good.  You need to start in July...

Assume you have started already, pick up the schedule from a month out?  Don't they have water stations?

Ah apologies, didn't realise you'd never stayed/played in that neck of the woods. Shall throw my weight about in that Vegas thread Smiley

The identity remains a mystery, sadly.

I played there hundreds of times, more times than on The Strip, it's where all the intellegencia flock for the complex 4 card games what grown ups play, but I've never stayed there.

Pit those boys if you plan to throw your weight about, eh?

So you've played there 100s of times but never cash? Or never NLH cash? edit - ignore this, just seen your edit above. Doesn't take much to make me look stupid!

Had an hour to kill before the tourney kicked off at Golden Nugget (some sat for a Caribbean package), and went for a wander. There was a $200 or so 4 card tournament elsewhere (Binnions maybe?)......it was like a field of Tikays. Never seen anything like it. I think I aged 30 years upon walking into that card room Wink
