Meanwhile, in surprise domestic news, great excitement beckons in about a month's time - the Richmond Autumn Riverside Run, which is a nice, gentle, flat 10 kilometres.

http://thefixevents.com/richmond-autumn-riverside-10k-2015

Going to recce the course tomorrow, sort out where to park the car in the morning, all that stuff.

Any tips or hints as to what a novice runner - well, jogger - should do by way of preparation, & what to take on the run, by way of water etc?

Tikay, would like some advice on Vegas old town please.

We're thinking of staying there next May/June after spending a couple nights on Strip.....4Queens is coming up very cheap for a week @ about £230 and no resort fee. Have you stayed there? Thoughts?

What are games like on Freemont St? Is there enough $1/$2 games kicking about at all hours to keep me busy doing my bollocks? Appreciate you prefer that 4 card garbage....

What time do the busses to the Strip end? Or are they 24/7?

In my 4 trips to Vegas, I've only been up to Freemont St once and only played the one MTT there (somehow my 6 high all in bluff on the river got picked off), so my knowledge of all things old town isn't too good. But I know you love it there so any advice would be much appreciated.

TIA.

Apart from June this year my last 7 Vegas trips have been down town
I don't know much about the 4 queens I stay the nugget which is fine
The rush tower is newest and very nice
Then the gold tower looks ok
Cheapest is Carson tower but still ok I've stayed I. These 6/7 times and the rush tower once
There isn't a poker room rate as such but if you / partner play slots / table games e mail Steven Wright a casino host for a rate
Swright@goldennugget.com

Cash games - nugget only has $1/2 but no max buy in up to 4-5-6 tables running sometimes a massive stacked game happens plus 2/3 of limit sometimes
Quietens  down to always one of each plus high hand jackpots 24/7
9am -11am 1pm -3 pm -5 pm every 2 hours $60 dollar donkaments weekends maybe $100 freeze in ballroom
Loads of food choices
Bin ions has less cash n less tourneys it's sadly not as busy until wsop month then there's noon n 7 pm events
Great centre bar on casino floor you can sit at 24/7 n drink in the nugget
Lots going on on Fremont st outside some of questionable taste best not to wonder too far off Fremont st
McDonald's 1 block down
A Walgreens pharmacy
Lots of tacky tourist shops

Personally I put $3500 thro my players card n got a few buffets a cabana by the pool n drinks all comped they are quick to comp you
You get a lot of Hawaiian players staying nearby at ?? Can't remember the name !
The pool areas great open 8 am till midnight swimming only 10 am till late tho gets v busy
Security in the nuggets ok .it seems a bit iffy in others , I've never had a problem tho it's great

Tikay, google parkrun.

Use those as training runs. They're 5k races, free, run at 9am every Saturday morning and there are shedloads around the country. They can also be done from complete scratch.

Tony will need 6 months training to get to scratch.

Seen any good cranes lately?

Saw this Baldwin's beauty in Birmingham last week. Corker, that. Had a luffing jib & everything.

TIA.

Used to stay at Wynn/Palazzo every summer, but they didn't go too much on me driving through the champagne rack at the Laguna Bar, so I've been staying at the Nugget since 2012.

Always a few 1/2 games at the Nugget, which are pretty lively, and there is generally one at Binions, too.

Not sure about the buses, but I think you can buy 7day passes for the deuce, which is that bus that goes to the strip.

Just because it's easier for me to be based where I'm going to be spending most of my time, I always stay at the Nugget, even though it's a bit more expensive.

Some friends always stay at the 4 Queens and they say it's perfectly good, too.

I'm booked up June 21st - July 5th, so all being well I'll be out there for at least those 2 weeks.

If you're after freerolling your trip, look out for the drink driver on a mobility scooter, and try and get a seat at any game he's in  Smiley

Thanks for the replies guys. Food for thought. Staying downtown does appeal for a change to the norm.

I'll post your question on the Vegas Info thread Mr Plumpety Plump Plump.

Simon Galloway will see it then, he's an absolute mine of useless Vegas information.
