The last 3 Tourneys I have had this lad to my immediate left......

We share tables in all the PLO, Big O & O8 stuff every year, & get along OK, except he's a perfect pain to play against.

I only discovered yesterday that he is the kid who had a big stack at the end of Day 3 of the WSOP Main last year & then got disqualified & thrown out.

His name is Joe Stiers.

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=225954

He got banned by all Caesars Properties in 2013 for alleged card counting at Blackjack. (He denies it, but I have no idea if it's true or not).

So he sort of fiddled a new Players Card by substituting his middle name for his surname, & got it through.

Then in 2017, he played a few Rio Deepstacks to test the water,  cashed in one, got paid, no questions asked.

So he played the Main Event, ran up a big stack, but then got disqualified & thrown out.

Guess he can't complain (though he told me he is suing Caesars), but it's not often in a poker lifetime you get a big stack on Day 3 of the WSOP Main.

"Thanks Marky, and congrats on the extension of your work contract, thoroughly deserved" - Cheers mate!

"The MarkyMcBok Magic kicks in and I lose two in a row to go back to 63,000. Correct plays though" - You mean McBok turns up and you get your first cash of the trip

Regarding 'that hand' - Interesting spot. As played, sigh fold. Regarding whether we have to bet. If I have position and am this deep I might bet about 2/3 of the pot on the flop. Some will think that because you have not potted it that you don't have the nuts. So it sort of under-reps your hand but gets a dash of value. Turn action would depend on opponent(s) playing patterns and board texture but I don't mind a turn check regardless of board to set up some river value from lower straights or sets that didn't fill up. OOP I probably check/call flop and re-evaluate on turn/river.

I have.....

Everyone limps for $10 (almost everyone always limps) & when it gets to me I make it $60 to play. I've not been particularly active, but generally raise my Button.

SB calls, BB calls, (these are the other 2 big stacks, $1,600 & $3,500). Everyone else folds. So far, so good.

Flop is.....

So I've flopped the abso nuts, plus the J-10 2 pair, but I don't have spades or backdoor clubs. I do have extensions with the 2 pair J-10 but they could very easily be "dead" extensions.

It goes check, check, & I make it $200. Think I have to bet here.

I'm a little surprised when the SB now check raises me, as he's very nitty. He made it (approx) $1,000.

Pretty sure I know his hand, & whilst I'm digesting this news, the BB (VERY aggro & playing $3,500) now re-pots it.

Ooh-er mother.

It's all-in for me to call, &, in my case, the main pot will be around $4,500 ignoring the side pot.

You'll be astonished to know that there was a very strong (though perfectly civil) difference of view on the hand, with 3 saying it was a no-brainer call & 2 saying it was a trivial straightforward fold.

In my spot, what is the correct play here, & why?

Someone asked "why do I HAVE to bet here?"

It just feels right to me, why give them free cards when they can have spades or a set & let them get there free?

I guess we could play it slower, but in 5 card game giving free cards is usually unwise imo.

Anyway, I folded once it went pot pot behind me, & I think all of you agreed that, as played, that was the sensible play.

The surprise was that, at the Table, 2 guys thought I was mad to fold, "wtf, worst fold ever", which just shows how we all see these things differently.

There was a bigger surprise though.

After watching with interest to see how the board ran out - it ran out completely blank & safe, but not bothered that I folded, as it would have been chop chop so I was risking money with no upside, but I did a double take when I saw the 2 hands.

Both had the A-K, as 100% expected, but neither had a set, neither had spades, & neither had the bare Ace of spades, which was deffo a strong possibility.

So I read the hand completely wrong, & I think many of you would have, too.

As played, I think my fold there is correct, but if I had nut spades as improvers, obv, I'm in like a shot. Not sure I'm calling if I have  set, as once it becomes apparent we are all playing high only hands, the chances of a pair up are much diminished.

FWIW, I don't much like their play. Not that my view makes it wrong, obv.

Sb play is ok . You might be bluffing or semi bluffing so he’s just saying ok I’ll go with it and hopefully take the 400 out there but commit myself looking stronger and make decision easier if goes another street .
But yeh B.B. play is shocking given stacks and size if he’s a regular but you kind of implied he was a bit crazy .

Nothing wrong with checking there occasionly to mix it up especially when playing 2 deep guys but bet standard really too.

I am UTG with single suited () aces, A-A-7-7.

One really aggro guy is down to about 500 (we started with 5,000) and it's his BB.

I know for sure he is gonna pot it when it gets to him.

I limp.

5 callers.

Mr Shorty pots it.

In true 2002 style, I 3 bet, got him. It's exactly 1,000 to go.

Now seat 6 calls.......that was not in the plan.

It comes 7 high, all clubs, and I have the ace of clubs.

I bet, seat 6 folds his K-K, Shorty has all sorts of low cards and is wrapped, but no clubs. It runs out safely, & we are off and running.

That sure feels better and settles the nerves a bit.

Raise with bad aces, (A-A-3-3, no suits) and get 5 callers.

It came K-K-Q, and it's tough to bet again on that flop 5 way, so tap the table.

Pot eventually goes to fella holding Q-Q pre flop who doubled up v fella with K-A.

Not something you ever expect to hear from The Rio.......

The aircon is on the blink, and it is unbearably hot in here.

Flight A, which began at 10am this morning (8 hours ago) had 1,193 entries, of which......120 remain.

This is gonna be like a 5 furlong sprint on firm going at Epsom or Brighton.

6,700 after 2.5 levels, tucked in behind, still on bridle, Jamie Spencer style.

Table is frighteningly loose.

Raised to 250 UTG, called in FIVE 5 spots and we call on the button with K-J-10-9 cc. (Should we raise there?).

10-9-3, with 2 clubs, so nice flop for me.

Pot, one caller, blank turn, bet again, call.

Blank river, I check he checks behind.

He had flopped top and bottom ( v my top two) and his clubs were a spot behind mine.

4 players have busted on this table inside the first 90 minutes.

9,300, and settling down now. Was pretty nervous early doors, but bit better now.
