Spotted this yesterday, & it got me thinking.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-50041711

I'll admit I've never been a Gazza fanboy, and he was certainly bang out of order & un-necessarily mean & rude.

But "sexual assault"? Seems a bit strong. Must be some law "public nuisance" or whatever for which they can give him a slap on the wrists or even Community Service or somesuch? We know he has had a few mental health & addiction issues, it maybe needs to be seen in that context.

Instead, we have a full-blown trial, jury, the full works, & it's scheduled to last 5 days.

How much public money must all that palaver cost? Bet it's £100,000 if it's a penny (pure guess on my part) by the time the Police time, resource & costs are included, then all the legal fees for solicitors, barristers, & all the legal rigmarole.

For being rude & kissing someone on the lips?

Here he is arriving at Court yesterday.

Good to have you back Sir!!

This is what our society has become now though isn't it? I would guess the money spent on this trial to be in excess of your figure if its over 3 days. What a waste.

And I firmly believe that 90% of our Extinction Rebellion folk, liberal snowflakes and probably Aaron, think this is worthwhile........

^^^^

The BBC state the Trial is expected to last 5 days.

I really have no idea of the cost, but it must be 6 figures.

This is getting messier & messier.

Neil Woodford was, at one time, the darling of UK stock pickers. Now it looks like there may be some skeletons in the Fund's closet.

I will come back with more later, but this looks like a classic buy high sell low strategy on the equity stocks.   Stocks and shares wax and wane as time goes on, and growth is very much de riguer right now.  You can never be sure of such things, but history tells us that you don't want to be offloading income shares at a time when they are so out of fashion.

I can undesrtand why Woodford was removed from the equity income fund, as he does seem to have broken the rules of his own fund by holding so many illiquid shares in it, but forced selling of shares seems very off looking from the outside.

Presumably that will be exploited by the Market Makers too?

People have been having fun with his known holdings for months.  It must have taken quite a bit of effort to get rid of what they did, and I am sure I have read that some shareholdings have bounced upwards after the Woodford fund has sold.  The unlisted or AIM stuff is a particular issue, because a lot of it needs further capital at a time a major investor (Woodford) is selling.  So it is bad news for them.  This has also affected other investors in those companies pretty badly.

Due to how "the system" works, this will need to be fully investigated too.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50042406

I suppose checks & safeguards are needed, but this one sticks in the throat a little.

In fairness, the various authorities seem to have done a great job of tracking him down.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36437856

Fair play to them, that's impressive sleuthery.

Officials at the Prison are quoted as saying ' worse case of suicide we've ever seen.'

I bet. Wink

Having said that, even for convicted paedophiles, we should not turn a blind eye to murder, & prisoners taking the law into their own hands.

Still pains me to think of the costs of the investigation that will now have to take place though.

Excellent now this thread is up and running again (hopefully)

Have you heard anything about or seen Compo?

Whilst trying to do my own research on the matter I see there is a good photo of the pair of you on Hendon mob

Nope, not a word.

There were numerous reports of him being spotted near where he used to live in Bishops Stortford around 7 or 8 years ago. He was, I'm told, heavily bearded & deliberately avoiding those who knew him from the poker & racing world. I think he's OK, just a hunch, but I certainly hope so. Some character, & it was so sad to lose him as a close friend.

I did manage to find a few photos of him in my little archive.

This would be in Lake Mead, near Vegas, in 2007, as I recognize Billy who was the cameraman at the time. Gawd knows what we were filming, stood there like that.

Nice photo this, think it must have been a profile picture of him;

Here's the THM photos you mentioned;

This is my favourite photo of him, this was at DTD & Simon Trumper is in the background, & some daft idiot who was going though his sunglasses phase.

I remember the hand, Compo had 5-2 or 5-3, & somehow did a get. The place erupted.

I had a good look through You Tube to find some of his poker stuff, and all I could find was this, from the blondepoker festival in Waterford, in 2008 I think. Also features Snoopy (Adam Goulding), Rhowena Colclough & Jen Mason.

Dave never worked off a script, everything was ad-lib. He used to do Horse Racing previews for the Wm Hill Shops, he had to phone it in to the Office each morning. It was a 20 minute piece going through all the races, & he did the whole thing ad lib without notes, never hesitating or "err" "you know" once. So fluent.

Cliffs of last 18 months pls.

Well first up, the ageing process really started to take it's toll.

This was in July. The posture, body shape, feet position, moobs, everything just screams "old man". It (sseemed) to happen so quickly. I'm fine with it, it was just startling how quickly it seemed to happen.

Love this photo of Gill though, rocking the Doris Day look.

The occasion was Afternoon Tea down in Surrey one lovely July afternoon.

I bumped into this lovely man last week, who you will or should recognize from back in the day at Gala Notts.

Not seen him for the best part of 12 or 13 years, but he's not changed one jot.

Saw Tina too, ditto. She's perfectly lovely, though I have seen her a few times on the last decade or so.

I wateched that Pulp documentary at the weekend, it was definitely a bit quirky, but enjoyed it.

I don't know how far your love of music stretches, but I know you like a good gangster story, so this sounds up your street  https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/oct/14/tricky-interview.  It hasn't been published yet, so can't telly ou if it is good or not, but I am thinkig how can it not be?

Finally, Mount Blanc is the tallest mountain in Europe, just like Pluto is the smallest planet, yeah?

Well turns out it isn't, it is only the 7th biggest,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Elbrus

I found it through discovering the nastiest outhouse in the World, as you do.  You can see it here.

http://www.greenadrenaline.com/blog/mount-elbrus-day-1

The trip report isn't bad either, there must be loads of little gems like that hidden around the interent.

Yeah, the Pulp thing it was definitely "quirky", but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I'll return to those mountain stuff later, but for now.....

Well done on 3rd in this week's Sunday Major Next Door, the day before yesterday. I was sort of surfing the site & tables to see what was going off, & find material for the daily MTT report which I do every day for the lads, & your stack was up & down like a yoyo. I never went in the chat box, what with my bok rep & everything.

Saw one extraordinary hand you were in though for a mountain of chips.

It was A-K v Q-Q v your 5-5, & you got to see the lovely 2-3-4 flop. It was all over on the turn when the 6 popped out. Incred scenes.

Anyway, well done David.
