Geek alert.

I'm really enjoying the story of the cyberattack & ransom demand of the Colonial Pipeline in the USA. It has many parallels with the Suez Canal story a few months ago. Nobody has or will die, or even get hurt, so we can enjoy the story without feeling bad.

The pipeline is 5,500 miles long - that's Lands End to John O'Groats 6 times, & supplies 45% of the petrol, oil & diesel needs of the Eastern United States.

The hackers say that they are not bad people - "its not about politics or the environment, we just like money". Gotta love that.

Early beneficiaries include shipping tanker owners, charter rates have gone through the roof.

Here's the pipelines Wiki page;

presumably you made the same mistakes I did.

This rule applies in most cases even with a name ending in s:

Thomas's job
the bus's arrival
James's fiancée
Steve Davis's victory

.........

.......a name ending in s takes only an apostrophe if the possessive form is not pronounced with an extra s. Hence:

Socrates' philosophy
Saint Saens' music
Ulysses' companions
Aristophanes' plays

I thought Jesus's would be correct - still do actually.

I thought this was arguable, too, so I went to the oracle.

Fowler says it's just an apostrophe for biblical, poetic and classical names (and pronounced the same as if there were no apostrophe, so the same number of syllables). Picking a grammar fight with HE Fowler is like pointing at the number 8 at the end of the bar and calling him a wimp.

My memory of it all is a but flaky, but I certainly recall that all the hostages who were still alive were rescued safe & well, but every single one of the bad guys was shot & killed by the SAS, which saved all manner of difficult consequences further down the line.

Oh, & Cliff Thorburn beat Alex Higgins 18-16.

I can’t remember yesterday at times
But I know where I was that night

We have the british pipeline agency here in the uk that delivers fuel to airfields commercial like Heathrow and Gatwick as well as military use
https://www.bpa.co.uk/
It has 2 upright white concrete posts with 2-3 horizontal rails as markers
Unlike gas pipelines which generally have one tall single post markers with a hiviz cone on top for the helicopter which flies their length weekly to check for any works going nearby
As we’ve been drilling  they have landed nearby  and spoken to us to check we are aware
