Grandad? Really? Tell us more.
Middle son, now 27, and partner expecting a boy on Christmas Day.
Funny, I still think he's 14 years old!
Just for a moment I thought you meant
your
partner was expecting a boy on Christmas Day.
Congrats Grandad.

Hi David,
Sorry for delayed reply, I don't know where the time goes but every day is fun-filled one way & another & life is very good.
Still playing with usual partners? For the most part, yes. Jamie Moult (bookiebasher) runs our "group", Neil Giblin (JAKALLY) is the official handicapper, & the blondes involved includes Trevor Pearson (typhoon56), Andy Hulme (Stato, who recently won a millball at poker) & Mitch Johnson. Probably a few others I've forgotten too. I generally get 2 or 3 rounds a week with that group, which also includes all sorts of dodgy sorts - 2nd hand car dealers, reprobates & degens but all huge fun. I also play with Paul Jackson ("JAC" on blonde) at Mickleover GC or Breadsall from time to time & Neil Giblin here & there.
I remain absolutely hopeless but the Handicap System gives me a chance & all of them are understanding & tolerant of my total golfing ineptitude. I do play the (very) occasional good shot, certainly enough to keep me fully engaged. I simply adore being out on the Golf Course & I'm lucky to have got in with some great lads all of whom look after me a treat.
We had an "away day" recently at Rushcliffe Golf Course, a dozen of us, poor Stato got drawn as my partner but he put me completely at ease & we had a great day.
Then last month we had an overnight stay & 2 rounds at Abbey Golf Course & Hotel down near Redditch. It rained non-stop & we all got drenched, but it was a great experience.
Away days apart, most of our golf is played at Breadsall Priory, either on the Moorlands Course or Priory Course, plus I have occasional rounds at Erewash GC & Mickleover, either with Jac, Neil or even solo.
More follows...

When I took golf up again last year, Tom (Red-Dog) also decided to take up golf, but unforch some sort of shoulder or muscle injury got in the way, plus he was scared of getting obsessed with it & was not sure he could spare the time, so that was that.
Then about 3 or 4 weeks ago he started going to the Range again, & before long we went & played a few rounds down at Leicester Golf Centre, which is part of Leicester Racecourse complex. It's only 9 holes (so we go round twice) but it's a proper course & quite tough (for us...), 2 x Par 5, 5 x Par 4 & 2 x Par 3. Each 9 is 2,850 yards, so 5,700 for the full 18 & most holes are "reachable" for most of us when we actually hit decent shots.
I thought I was addicted & obsessed, but Tom is worse, he absolutely loves it & is incredibly competitive & enthusiastic, so we've been playing every spare afternoon we can find.
Last week Moulty invited Tom to join us at Breadsall Priory for a round, it was a lovely 4 ball - Moulty, Tom, me & Mitch Johnson. We had an absolute blast & Tom acquitted himself very well considering he's only been playing a month. When he flushes one it goes a mile, he's much longer than me.
Naturally, he was very nervous & somewhat overawed to begin with. So we all poll up at the first tee on the Moorland course, which is a brutally tough Par 3, 172 yards, uphill, with the hole bracketed by two large Oak trees, one each side, & if you reach them & get through, two nasty bunkers guarding the two-tier green. Some of the lads in the Group are single figure handicappers but it's very rare indeed that anyone hits that green in one. Moulty was short & left, Mitch was short & right, & by some miracle, I was straight & on the front apron, just a few yards short. Up steps Tom, nervous as a kitten, & uses his 3 wood & smashes it straight onto the Green... Never seen a man so relieved. That settled him down & we had a great afternoon, then assembled in the local pub for a pot of tea, & to settle up. (We play small stakes singles, doubles, front 9 & back nine, plus Nearest The Pin on the Par 3's).
As you can see, I've become a golf bore & could rattle on all day but I guess I'd best spare you any more golf waffle.

Thanks David.
Addictive? Just a bit.
And yes, it's wonderful exercise. I have a "Step App" & it tells me that on average, I walk 7 miles when I play 18 holes. (Partly because I sort of tack up the course as I'm frequently wayward, plus I often have to walk back & forth to find my ball, lol). I would never have dreamed that I could walk that far several times a week at my age & yet I manage it comfortably. When I finish 18 holes I'm bent double & can barely walk, but the next morning I'm raring to go again. Who'd have thought? I did use a buggy at first but I never use one now.
Still got a few boxes to tick, not managed a round with Ralph yet, he did invite me but It was the day I was flying home from Vegas, & I keep in daily contact with Chompy, but I've not managed a round with him yet either. Fingers crossed I can tick both boxes soon though. Love playing different Courses with my long-term blonde friends, it's been SO good for me in so many ways. Very humbling though when I'm always the worst player, but that's half the fun in some ways. It's good to battle adversity & have to eat a large slice of humble pie on occasion.

Ha, if there were, Chomps would be begging for a chop after the 3rd hole.

Sorry not felt great so I've missed a few posts. things I found interesting, I hope you do too.
Jayne Mansfeild was a member of Mensa, spoke 5 languages and was a very good writer as well as being beautiful.
She could also play the violin, and here she is, playing "Concerto No. 6 in A Minor" (Vivaldi) on The Ed Sullivan Show, May 26, 1957.

Loving you all getting into golf, got back playing a bit during covid and certainly have the bug. Struggle to play as much as I'd like but love getting out there. If any blondes are ever up my neck of the woods i would be delighted to get fleeced around my club or any other, we have a few to choose from

Hi Shaz, hope you are feeling a little better now.
Good grief, how did you know all that about Ms Monroe?
I just had a quick peruse of her Wiki, & it states....
Frequent references have been made to Mansfield's very high IQ, which she claimed was 163.
Quite surprising then that she was almost universally known as a "dumb blonde".
Her Wiki is well worth a read, what a life she led, one way & another....

Wow, lovely to see you still pop in to blonde from time to time James.
That's at least three of us freshly bitten by the golf bug then - you, Tom & me, as well as all the established long-term golfers, plus those I've been lucky to share a few rounds with.
I LOVE going to different courses with the blondes from back in the day, I really do.
Alloa Golf Club, which I believe is in Sauchey? google tells me...
5 hr 10 min (302.8 mi) via A1(M)
But hey-ho, I'll almost certainly venture up, then I get to play a new Course (or two) & share a few hours on a Golf Course with you. Not sure I can do it this side of Christmas, but early next Spring would almost certainly work, & the weather will be better then. Not be much fun driving 300 miles in November only to find it's rained off...
You seen Messrs Russell & Bopkin much, did you do Vegas with them again this year?
