Ha, TY TY.

Endless hand histories are boring, but there were two particularly interesting hands which I shared with mates - well "mates" - on WhatsApp thusly...

It's 7 Max, I'm playing 300,000 (15BB) & UTG makes it 60,000 at 10k-20k. It then goes CALL, CALL, CALL, CALL. With arse cheeks firmly clenched, I snap go All-In, (10-7 off) & they all fold. So I pick up 350,000, which more than doubles my stack, without even seeing a flop. I tried to suppress a smug smile but I'm not sure I succeeded. Most satisfying thing ever.

The bubble was painful, it's 7 Max & there are 14 paid, so the tables were 5 - 5 - 5 for ages & that really eats the blinds, 2.5BB per 5 handed Orbit. Anyway, eventually the bubble bursts & I win a hand or two. Then with 12 left I find A-K cc on the button. ooh, lovely. I'm here to win so I MUST get a caller somehow. I give it the full Hollywood, use 3 Time Banks, then eventually say "OK, let's gamble" & move all-in. BB insta throws a single chip in, "call".  YES YES YES, I've got him! He turns over Aces. So all that wonderful acting was wasted.

Played the DTD Tourney on Sunday, no luck, then sat at the £2 £2 6 card PLO cash table, where we had a surprise visitor - Jon Shoreman.

"Long time no see" I remarked, to which he replied "well I said Hi 2 weeks ago here, & I spoke to you twice in Vegas". Oops. My memory for names & faces worsens by the day.

He used to do very well at The Vic when the Mixed Game cash ran there, & he's very much a mixed game specialist.

Prior to that, 20 years or so back, he part-owned & ran the World Heads Up Championships in Barcelona in partnership with Nic Szeremata, which Jeff Kimber won one year, & he also was involved with Poker Europa, the magazine we all used to rely on for results.

He tells me he lives in Vegas now, which came as a bit of a surprise.

He's still as sharp as a tack, & had no less than TEN WSOP cashes this year, 2 of which were north of $20,000, across a range of variants including Triple Draw (his preferred game I believe), PLO, Omaha Mix & NLH.

In Sunday's game he pulled off an audacious semi-bluff with a 7 high heart flush by betting full pot in a 4 way pot. For those not familiar with 6 Card PLO, a 7 high flush can never stand any pressure, it's a bin job really. Fella next to me flashed his cards (I was not in the hand) & folded the Q high flush, as I think most would.

I've no idea of his age, but he must be the wrong side of 70?

Had two WhatsApp requests for a 'photo of Jon, so here you go, though truth to tell he's changed very little in the 20 odd years since I first met him.

He's at the far end of the Table (Seat 2) with to his left (his right as viewed) is Gavin, aka Joe 90.

He had a full head of ginger hair when I first met him - I think he won the comp three nights on the trot in Derby sometime in the 1990's.

Crikey, that's some memory you have Ralph, that was long before I was on the scene.

Bit weird incidentally, I mentioned Jon here yesterday & it prompted an avalanche - well 4 or 5 - messages via PM, DM & WhatsApp about Jon. He's quite the character, & that's a compliment, not an insult. And quite unusual for a man of his age to still know the score at the highest levels in poker.

Another Mystery Man, who I was pleasantly surprised to see at Goliath.

First met him over 20 years ago, and it was in a Tournament that booder also played.

Name that man.

The EuroStar thing rumbles on, Gill refuses to let it go.

She wrote to London TravelWatch, "The independent transport user watchdog" who gave a generic reply requesting more info which she subsequently provided.

Then then replied....

Seems a bit wishy-washy, & they admit to being toothless, but you never know.

They are not toothless. Although it would be true to say that there have been moves to abolish them for being ineffectual.

I agree with that lady's analysis if the legal position. What I do not agree with is her interpretation as to what her employer is able to do about it. 2 quick points:-

1. Here's a template letter from "Which"

https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/letter/letter-challenging-a-company-s-unfair-contract-terms-ax9MJ6q9oCb2

2. I referred to a "super complaint" previously. Let me explain what that means. Certain bodies have the power to bring these. I don't know if TravelWatch (or, more likely, the ORR) have that power-but someone at her organisation will know. A "super complaint" is where a statutory body has the power to seek to force a Company to change their Standard Terms and Conditions because they break the law of the land. Which, IMHO, is what is happening here.

Will such an action be brought? Not particularly likely. But the threat of such proceedings make Companies sh1t themselves. They are not worried about your claim. But they are most definitely worried about the threat of being forced to change their terms of business.

Margaret (Mags) Croucher's linkedin page is fun. To quote her words:-

" Investigate complaints about transport providers and represent transport users where there is sufficient evidence to pursue their case further
Negotiate with transport providers to resolve complaints on behalf of transport users"

Been there 16 years. Job before that? Customer Services Manager at Southeastern Railway Smiley

Discerning followers of the beautiful game with access to dodgy streams might like to follow Arsenal's pre-season game at 6pm this evening.

Reminded me of one of my first memories-an argument between my parents:--

Mum:-"The trouble with you, Syd Green, is that you love Tottenham Hotspur more than you love me"

Dad:-"I love effing Arsenal more than I love you"

My Mum hated football. And worked for Arsenal for several years Smiley
