It seems that when you turn 78 you find out who your real friends are.
I have no shame in naming them - it was initiated by bookiebasher, & endorsed by Red Dog & Treveor "typhoon". Utter bastards.
Haha!
Belated Happy Birthday, and sticky buns on me next time you're unfortunate enough to cross my path
marky!
How you keeping, bud?

Is Tikay the one at the back?
Happy birthday.
So nice to see you enjoying retirement.
Thanks Phil.
Honest to God, I'm cherishing every moment of every day, the last 3 or 4 months have been amongst the happiest, most relaxed & enjoyable in my entire life.
It's been over 100 days now, & believe it or not, I've "done something" every single day. Golf, poker (often both on the same day), or Gill & I go to London & elsewhere, stay over somewhere, posh Afternoon Tea or whatever. In all that time only one bad day, which was our weekend in Paris which was totally ruined by a blonde matter & a series of nasty PM's. Thankfully the other Mods came to my rescue & took over the situation. I'm genuinely grateful to them all. (Except Fat Vinni, obv).
The great luxury, of course, is time. All my life I've been rushing, sometimes self-inflicted, sometimes not, but since a child I've rushed non-stop. And now I have all the time in the world. (Well I haven't, but you know what I mean). If I'm golfing, I turn up an hour early & get ready at my leisure, ditto if I'm pokering. What a luxury all that is. And when I'm finished a round of golf, I don't have to rush home to check my Computer for work matters.
Literally, I'm having the time of my life.

One other thing for EssexPhil, who may recall that we were doing battle with EuroStar who refused to give us a cash refund.
Gill took it up with the Bank, they went to Eurostar, but they got no joy either.
Then the Transport Watchdog got back to us.
How about that for a result? Gill is chuffed to bits.
Note, by the way, it takes them 28 working days - a month - to process a refund. (As in click a button or two). Customer Service generally seems to worsen by the day.

This is a link to a Diary page just over 2 years ago, when, by sheer chance, I bumped into a bunch of old mates who I had not seen in a decade or more.
http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=25486.56550
Soon, we were golfing regularly - typhoon, Moulty, Mr Giblin, Tom, & many others, including the likes of Uncle Ralph, Fat Mitch, Stato. Paul "Jac" Jackson" & many others.
I don't want to come across all schmaltzy, but these guys have looked after me SO well. It can't be much fun golfing with an old bloke who can barely get the ball off the tee & is always waddling along at the back of the group, but they look after me like you wouldn't believe. 78 year old blokes can't be great company, but they hide it well & treat me as one of the gang. God bless them all.

OK, I'm done, I just wanted to do a few thank you's & an update before Gill & I disappeared for a long-promised 2 week holiday, another episode in The Great Retirement Adventure.
I'm told Skeggy is wonderful at this time of the year.

"They felt it was only fair to offer the compensation in cash"
Yeah, right, only after Gill grabbed their bollocks and squeezed. WP Gill.

Love this post. WP changing your hectic life to a "doing whatever you want" lifestyle.
Congrats to Gill on winning her refund battle.

What you doing with yourself these days? Really delighted to hear from you.
That's very kind.
I'm still working in enterprise IT, hoping to retire in a year or three.
Play live poker as often as I can as long as it's not NLHE. I remember back in the day on here keeping a thread updated with every live non-NLHE comp going, if it was more than one a month we felt blessed. I now do it in a Google calendar for my own benefit/interest. Want to have a guess how many comps there were in the UK last month?
Sixty. Across fifteen different venues. Marvellous.
If anyone else is interested, the calendar is here:
https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/1?cid=dWtvbWFoYWNvbXBzQGdtYWlsLmNvbQ
Looking forward to the PartyPoker tour at Resorts World next month, whoever decided to include Drawmaha, HORSE, TORSE, BigO, PLO456, PLO Bounty and a £20,000 gtd PLO comp is a top guy. Hopefully it might mean the return of regular poker there.
Morning, and lovely to hear from you again.
Have run out of time so will reply tomorrow.
