Lynsey Horne made sure we all knew she's now engaged to Dan Hipgrove, & what a happy couple they look. I referred to Dan's previous band last night (Toploader) as a "pop group", sheesh, did I get some black looks for that.

Toploader were a pop group who had one song, once, which wasn't even one they wrote themselves.

Toploader were a bit crap and pop seems like a perfectly reasonable description of their music. They were however briefly quite succesful and sold a shed load of albums. Also i think "achilles heel" was a hit.

Is "a hit" a typo?

A simply wonderful atmo in Luton tonight (Friday), ram-packed full of APAT-ers.

Sat with Matt Dale in the Comp, Maureen was there, Colch-Kev, Ginger, Skrikera, Rookie, Belly, Pam (minus child-bearing hips), too many to name, but everyone is revved up for the biggest APAT weekend ever. The Irish APAT Champion was there, & the English & UK Champions are due in tomorrow.

All the chips for tomorrow have been counted out & ready, & I've arranged to meet Carmel at 11 to 11.30, so Rich, Des & I can get set up. Am very nervous, things can happen outwith our control, but everything we could have done, we have.

Rare visitors to Luton were Catman & Mark Patrick, the latter playing a parrticularly lairy game in the comp.

I went fairly deep in the comp, but the needed 2xthrough just failed when I lost a race, though I was overdue that. I can't complain I was looking like history earlier, when I was in shocking trouble all in with A-T against M3Boy's A-Q, but I runner-runner-runner-runner 4 flushed........

Afterwards, set for an early(ish) night, I got teased into sitting in a £500 sit down ROE Cash-Game with Dave Lloyd, Jeff Buff, Jim McShane & co, & frankly, it was too big for me, & I was a bit out of my depth with them there boys. But I got lucky a few times, & turned the £500 into £1,450, that's a quite extraordinary score for me, & I could not be more pleased. Naturally, I nutted up after that, even passing a flopped straight, (under-straight, no over straight re-draw) with re-draws to the Q flush and straight flush, when I sensed the pot size was gonna get way too big. And it did, becoming a £3,000 jobbie which I'd have lost.

I'm blessed.

That's my poker finished for the week, as I'll be working Sat/Sun/Mon. On the week, I'm £650 up in Live Comps, £950 up in Live Cash, £650 up in Online Comps & £700 down in Online Cash. Deduct £300 in Hotel costs, & say £100 in juice for the car, and that's around £1k up. Very satisfactory indeed, & the bankroll - my over-riding concern - remains buoyant.

Have a good weekend, whatever you are doing.

Thats a nice win, I bet the American guy was donating to everyone, he doubled me up on the baby table before moving to the monkey table.

Paid for my weekend assuming I don't lose it tomorrow night.

What's a ROE cash game? Turny told me they'd be playing 4,5,6 carded omaha, but I didn't really understand. I should have had a peek at what was going on.

ROE is Round of Each

all full round of holdem
then on the 2nd round its omaha the button gets to choice if its 4,5 or 6 cards

A cracking game tonight the £500 ROE was great fun to play in  amazing banter all night the game played big but not stupid
some of the best rubdowns i have heard in ages but all said and recieved with a smile
poker played in the right spirit with the right attitude

American guy is Geff - he can double you  up but very easily take all your chips of you just when you dont think he has a hand - lovlel guy - runs rings round tight players - great but frustrating if he's at your table sometimes.

Yeah, nice guy, doubled me through. I called pretty much becuase I'd created the image that I would fold, and he didn't hit his draw. I get the feeling he could take a 100 more coin flips than I could though.

Well, we got Day 1A through (APAT European Amateur Championship at Luton) without a hitch, really.

We had 150 runners, 3 got stuck in traffic so were replaced by Reserves, & the Day 1A latey's may be able to play today (Sunday).

We were scheduled to start at 2.30pm, & we did - 2.30pm on the dot. A neat trick, given we start so early, & so many were new Members at Luton who needed to register with the Casino. So starting events on time IS possible, as we've proven all Season long with APAT. It just needs the will to do it.

All the Breaks were to the exact scheduled period, too. We hoped to finish around Midnight, as we usually do on Day One, though this was a bit trickier, as we'd planned to stop at 20, as we have two Day Ones & it gets awkward with money going down to 30. Here we got lucky, as we reached 20 players on the very stroke of midnight!

Lots of blondes played yesterday, & many more were on the Rail.

Karabiner survived the day, played with a lovely tempo, as did King Poker, who's almost quite normal in real life. Dino1980 got through, too.

Not so fortunate were wormster, who ran deep, skrikera, M3Boy who's Q-Q was cracked by A-Q, though he'd cracked Aces with 7-9 earlier, Kinboshi (card-dead but he never complains), Andrew T, Matt Dale, ITB (down to the felt early, fought back before busting late on), RichEO, well, loads, I just can't remember them all right now.

On the all-day Rail were Dewi, Kev, Rookie, Brendan, Maureen, Iron (later on), and lots, lots more.

The SNg's & Cash games started after Dinner, & I've never heard so much laughter, they had a ball.

The Staff were simply magnificent, they even got the music turned down a bit. A severe shortage of Valets was the only complaint, really. Special thanks go to Carmel, Alastair & Nina.

Des & Rich were tireless, we started at 11am & finished at 1am, & they have to do that two more days before we are done! I had an attack of that medical problem I have after eating food, & became temporarily comatose.

Day1b starts at 2.30 (I hope!) & anyone who fancies a fun day, or to see how this APAT thing works, are welcome to come along.

Maria & Red played the Walsall £300, but neither had any luck, & Maria rung me about Midnight, she was home by then. She runs bad at Walsall, really bad. Her TV Poker CV reads 1st, 2nd, 1st, 3rd - not bad, eh?, but she can't do a thing at Walsall.

Elsewhere, rumour reached Luton that the Matt Dale sponsored Claw75 had Finalled in the Womens Jobbie in Newcastle - go Claire! Get it won, Claire.

Amazingly, there were 7 Norweigans playng the APAT Event yesterday, come all that way just to play APAT & they were an absolute hoot. 6 of them came as a group, & one flew solo.

You cannot but love & respect Scandies in Live Poker, they play with an amazing zest & enthusiasm, & take their beats like grown ups, no moany-woany stuff from them.

Their leader was fiercely comptitive, & was chip leader for most of the day, before busting late. Attention was tyhen turned to backgammon, & much money departed hapless opponents & will be Norway-bound on Tuesday.

Here is said ex Chip Daddy, who also resides in the title of President, Norweigan Poker Federation, & future Mrs Kendall.

We Brtish pokerers moan night & day about Casinos, Session Charges, Bad Beats, Dodgy Rulings, poorly orgnised Tourneys, da de da de da.

Well, listen up. You don't know how lucky we are, here's a tale from Hanna Nilsson, pictured bove.

They were playing a €30 Sit 'N Go in Norway 3 weeks ago. That's illegal in Norway, I kid you not. The Police raided the gaff, armed with automatic rifles, arrested them all, handcuffed the lot of them, threw them in police vans, and stuck them in cells overnight at the cop shop. The next morning they were all fined €300.

And we moan about session charges & rake & whether or not we get free sarnies!

Maria lost with AQ v AJ, I lost with QQ v JJ, and Thewy got it all in with KK v 10 8 on a J 10 8 flop. Guess the turn and river....

OK, gotta go, we need to be in the Casino by 1130 am to set everything up.

If it goes half as well today as it did yesterday, I'll be thrilled. But bloody tired.

I wish all the players the best of luck, most especially my good bud, Compo, Maureen, Brendan, Iron, Bainn, well, everybody really!

I have to do double-duties today & tomorrow, as Poker Week start work today, but at least I get paid for that. Compo & I will be sharing the Interviewing duties this week, as Rhow has gone on holiday to Barcelona with Dave. So I'll do all the Interviews until Compo busts out. I reckon he'll last 3 levels. Any advance on that? Wink
