On Monday evening, Poker Week went to the GUKPT Party in a swanky Covent Garden Nightclub, "Jewels".

Loud music, loud PA, that "hubbub" noise you hear in clubs & pubs, boorish drunks slavering & spitting all over you as they attempt to string a sentence together, I'm afraid Clubs & Parties are not my thing, never have been, never will be. I can't abide boorish drunks, & I imagine the feeling is mutual. If Poker Week paid me £10,000 per gig to attend those sort of do's every week, I'd quit instantly.

But that's not to say it was not well-organised, & a nice gesture by the GUKPT folks, because it certainly was a good "do", if you like that sort of thing.

What was especially nice was to see so many Dealers & Cardroom Managers there, they deserve a bit of respect, & it's nice that GUKPT remembered them.

The poker world & his wife were there. el blondie (albeit only for half an hour), Loird Wernick, Lord Raab, Media Celeb Dan Carter, Matt Dale, Jen, snoops, Dana, Praz, Karl & the full Team (Praz wearing the visor, of course), Dave "The Hat" Smith (in a cowboy hat!), Neil Channing, Paul Parker (on the Red Wine), Ben Vinson, Dena, ooooohhhhh, Carmel & Alastair from Luton, as well as Rhowena & Compo.

The highlight for me was interviewing Flushy, recipitent of "Worst Dressed Player of the Year".

"Never was an award more deserved" I began, followed by "are you not a little too plump for white suits?" And for once, the great man was speechless. Well almost, & we can bleep out that bit. In fact, we'll have to.

But many thanks to all at GUKPT, it was a great idea, & a fitting end to a terrific first Season by all involved.

So, we got our interviews done, & that was that, Compo insisting we went straight up to Luton for the Cash Game. I argued strongly against, but as chance would have it, my car & Hotel were both in Luton, but I told him I would go straight to the Hotel, no way would I play the Cash Game. And I was good to my word.

PS - Compo won a grand in the cash-game! I dropped £200, but had a hoot. Then it was back to the Luton Days Inn, where I'd been holed-up (at nights) for 4 days, a few hours kip, & then down to Feltham for the Sky Show. And, after that, home at last, promising never to leave home for poker again.

OK, better go, need to get to dtd, but better pack a bag first, as I gotta go straight down to Eurostar afterwards. Paris Euro-Awards here we come. And then, on Saturday, straight from Paris to Manchester, for the APAT jobbie.

I don't like parties either for similar reasons, and I'm a lot younger than you. What kind of prude does that make me?

Jim "bookiebasher" Moult just texted me. "See you at dtd tonight old man".

Sod it, these boys are having a laugh.

I AM NOT GOING TO dtd TONIGHT, & THAT'S THAT.

You got that? Comprehende?

See you there Tikay, I thought the standard at these £50 f/o was going to be mediocre. We have got EPT champs and err tv celebs playing them.

I don't see how grandpa can complain about being called old man when he refers to others as female genitalia

It makes you a top bloke. Who wants to have their personal space invaded by blathering drunks who can't hold their drink, don't react to social hints (like "GO AWAY YOU PISSHEAD")?, & with whom it's impossible to hold a meaningful convo?

I know, I know, it's me out of step with the rest of the world, but that's how it always was, is, & will be.

I had enough of getting pissed when I was younger. It bores me now and feels like a waste of time. Like you, I can't stand being sober around drunks, it's like you're talking to a different person and I don't like that.

I agree.

For those of you who don't know, I'm allergic to alcohol, which naturally means I'm as sober as a judge in chambers 24/7, and to top it off, I can't stand drunks. Whether it be in a club, or at the felt, I can't stand 'em. If I get one at the poker table, then on go the sunglasses, up goes the iPod, and in my own merry world I am.

I'm not the biggest fan of these do's with a free bar, but the GUKPT one did provide some entertainment for us who had no interest in getting completely slaughtered (and no, I'm not talking about James Dempsey, that was just an added bonus!) in the form of a Nintendo Wii.

And Snoops...if you're worried because you don't like the parties at your age...imagine how I feel being 22!!

4am - Just back from DTD - what a buzz there was down there tonight!

It was the first "open to all" £50-er, & I arrived at about 7pm to find a queue stretching into the Car Park! The Tourney sold out, they added a table or two, there were 20 alternates, & as many again were turned away.

Plenty of faces there, but it was like the Gala Notts crowd had been transported to DTd - almost everyone from Gala Notts was there. It was just like old times, & I adored it. And there were cash-tables galore - 6 or 7 - with everything from Hold 'Em, Omaha Hi-Low, & £2-£5 & £5-£5 Dealers Choice - the whole works. Add to that 5 or 6 SNG's at a time, & over 200 folks in there, & at last, after last week's razmatazz, this was a glimpse of the real DTD. The tmo was thrilling - really - & Rob has clearly hit the spot. Imagine, 200 players there on a Thursday night!

I played the comp, & had the most wonderful starting table, including Thewy & Karabiner, but every one of them was a treat to sit with.

Dave Welch dropped in, as did Pete Singletion, & Rob had his full Team on hand. Simon Trumper was Mother Hen - "seat on a SNG" - "seat available at £1 £2 Hold 'Em" he was announcing over the PA, & Matilde was dealing too, to help out. Yogi was TD, & he's just awesome. Nick & Rob, Chubbs too, are splendid Hosts (thanks for the dinner, Rob), & I had such a lovely evening.

I shall not abandon Luton, where I've been made to feel so welcome by the players & Staff, but when they clash, it'll be a tough call. With 200 players there, DTD really buzzes. Great stuff.

Two key hands for me tonight. Mid-comp, with plenty of chips, I Raise up with  . Orlando sets me all-in. Hmm.....

I'm thinking out loud, "I fancy calling, but I don't fancy being dominated here by A-J or A-K".

Orlando then says "I don't want you to call, I'm sure you'll river me".

Which was the clue - I now think I have 2 overs, so I call, & River the flush. Sorry Orlando, but them's the breaks, you sorta gave your hand away.

But the Poker Gods usually level the score, & I had one of those absolutely terrific exit hands in 11th place, for £80.

With blinds 1,200 - 2,400, Ante 250, I have 18k, & move in with  . After a long dwell, I get the Call, & he shows  .

So how about this Board for a corker......

 three clubs three diamonds

This I like......

That I did not like. But how cool would the Case Three be on the River? That would be a way to double up, eh? So what should come. The Case three? Nope, the Case.......

A memorable way to end a memorable evening. Loved every minute, & I can take those beats all day & night.
