I decided last night that I WOULD play tonight's (Friday's) Luton £500, even though I'm working on Saturday. Not many runners, Day Two - if it goes that far - starts at 2.30 - & at a push, I don't need to be at Feltham, 45 mins away, until 6 or 6.30pm. Sorted, then.
Until I was woken by a call from Sky this morning. "Can you do tonight's show, x has 'phoned in sick?".
So I'm doing tonight's Show now. And I get paid. And I save the £500 I'd probably have lost tonight.
Someone up there in Heaven Headquarters must like me. Or are preparing me for a mighty fall.
Anyway, I've booked my Hotel for an extra night, & I'll go straight home after Saturday's Show, & play DTD Sunday night.
I'll do a little report on last night's Luton £250 shortly. Needless to say, I did not trouble the judges.

I believe the real reason I've been asked to do the Show is that the two models placed a rider in their Contract, insisting that I do the Show. I get a lot of that when Glamour Models do the Show, see?
OK, gotta go, that damn Peta Todd is on the 'phone again, sigh. I would not mind, but I think she only wants me for my body, & I really prefer they wanted me for my mind. She sort of looks at me in that way, you know - where she's mentally undressing me - (Chili does the same thing) - & I find it very degrading. I'm a man, not a sex object.

So, last night's £250 (+£250) at Luton.
Lots of folks were dithering as to whether to play it or not, "how many runners so far?" said the persistent 'phone calls.
Eventually nearly 50 paid in, It was 42 when we began, but there were quite a few Late Entries.
But first up, they had the Buffet. Historically, Luton don't do very good buffets, but they are free, so we can't complain. And there have been all these complaints about the poor food service at Luton since they relocated to the "G". So a lovely surprise was in store, as we had beautifully cooked, huge, lamb-shanks, (or vegetraian tosh as an alternative), followed by scrumptous cheesecake & cream. Luton not improving? Think again. Well done them.
A slightly sub-50 field was about what I expected - I had hoped for 50 - but what it lacked in numbers, it made up for in quality.
My opening table, for example, had Lord Wernick in One, Danny Samson in Two, then me, Ian Woodley in Four, Rob Garfield in Five, & Graham Hiew in Six. How good is that?
Other notables included Edna Adams (of Late Night Poker fame), Compo, Dave Courtney, Ghani, Monkey Harris, both of the Khajuria Brothers, Dave "Lloydy" Lloyd, Richard Lynch, Jim McBride, Ambro, Mo Muse, Stuart Nash, Denis O'Mahoney, Tony Ringe, Albert Sapiano, & the Father & Son combo of Alan & Adam Vinson.
A very welcome, & rare appearance, from Mike Magee. Mike was a big-time Pro a few years back, but we don't see much of him these days. It was grand to see him looking so well, though he looks older than when I last saw him. He probably is older, on reflection.
I can't recall a better-structured £250 + £250 Event ever, anywhere, & there was much comment to this effect. So no excuses for busting about 20th. So I won't offer any.
A few Table Tales to follow.

You got that part right.
I'd like to apologise to you Tom, for all the comments Woodley made to you at the Table, I can't imagine who put him up to it. You are not fat at all, just very plump.

There was one almighty hoohah & row at my Table, which spoilt an otherwise absolutely splendid evening.
Danny Sansom & Lord Wernick tangled big time in a pot early doors, both had already taken their £250 Rebuy (thanks to rampant Woodley) - so no more to come - & the Pot was abut 12,000. It went to Mickey, no moans, groans or complaints from either party, & the pot was pushed to Mickey. It left Danny crippled, down to about 400 chips, so he's toast.
But no. After the huge Sansom/Wernick hand ended, as Micky was stacking his chips, someone - not in the hand - piped up - "the pot is 200 chips wrong, Danny owes another 200". Now, Danny is not best pleased he's just done almost all of his chips, though he'd taken it with good grace - "well done Mickey" - but now someone not in the hand is complaining that he should give Mickey another 200 chips, out of his remaining 400. As you can imagine, it was hardly a "diplomatic" time to be pedantic.....
Mickey says "I am happy that the pot was right, I don't want the (supposedly) extra 200, & anyway, there's no way of checking it now, the chips are all in my stack". Danny says the pot was right. The Dealer say the pot was right, next case.
But no. Mr Pedantic is not happy, & calls for a Ruling.
"Why call for a ruling, there's no way of back-checking it now, & both players, & the Dealer, are happy" was the concensus.
But the Ruling was insisted upon, & over comes (Walsall) Zak, who's down there to help out, & is acting as TD. Well, Zak does his best, but he's got no chance, it's over & done with, it's an unresolvable problem, both players are entirely satisfied the Pot was right, & so is the Dealer. And it's for 200 chips, & Danny has 400 left. Danny now offers the 200, to keep the peace, Micky says "no, the pot was correct, let's move on", but the objector is having none of it, he DEMANDS the 200 chips are passed across.
Well, as you can imagine, the normally placid Danny Sansom is getting a bit hot under the collar now. And so it all goes off. For another ten minutes, they argued. All credit to the rest of the table, we all left the table, & left them to it, there's no point in us interfering.
Eventually, with nobody happy, & Danny by now extremely agitated, play continued, (and in the spirit of goodwill, I busted Danny next hand), but the big black atmo cloud hovered over the table until the Objector, he himself clearly affected by the trauma (& considerable "afters") of the whole thing, donked his chips off & left.
Poker players never cease to amaze me. Argue by all means, all day & all night if you want, but at least make it a worthwhile argument - not to mention, one that it's possible to solve. I have a theory that the persistent Table Arguers are hen-pecked Husbands, being given their chance of power, but I suppose that's just nonsense really. But why on earth would you cause so much grief for no real point?
Life's too short, guys. At least, it is for me.

Compo was sat to Dave Lloyd's left, & drove Lloydy mad. LLoydy is a bit busy", Compo would not Pass a single hand, & they were at it, hammer & tongs. Compo then bluffed Lloydy off a big pot, on an all-paint board, with 5-3.....and showed. Lloydy sorted it eventually, & just moved all-in every single hand he played!
