All people who use performance enhancing drugs in sport should be banned for life...no exception...The same should go for those who miss a drugs test...or in some cases 2 or even 3. IMO Rio Ferdinand should never have been allowed back onto the football pitch.
It has to be said there are different 'types' of guilt involved in performance enhancing drug offences.
I think missing a drug test and then being banned for life is a bit on the harsh side.
Also often Athletes take drugs by accident, or through ignorance and it is harsh to ban someone for life who is not intentionally trying to cheat.
It is hard to detect peoples intentions in these cases and is the reason that the Governing bodies often hand out bans in between a slap on the wrist and the life-time ban that intentional "cheats" probably deserve.
It has to be said that Dwain Chambers did not knowingly take a Steroid, he was given a "Nutritional Product" by his Nutritionalist coach and ignorantly he did not ask enough questions about it. The product itself, TGH, was a brand new designer product in the grey area of the World anti-doping code and was not on the banned substance list and in fact was only declared a banned drug after Dwain had been taking it.
This drives me nuts.
1st of all. Guys like Rio Ferdinand who have missed several drugs tests have not done their job!..You are a professional athlete and you KNOW you have to take a drugs test every now and again. The guy missed several because he was out shopping or pimping up his car. Screw 'em...that's you done.
Do you honestly think thats why he missed the drugs test?
Nope..I think he was on drugs and that's why he didn't want to take the test..which makes him a drugs cheat and means he should be banned for life.

What drugs do you think he was on? Because unless you're prepared to say what they were and provide tangible evidence of his drug taking, then your opinion is not only worthless it's borderline libellous.

Ah my dear
No it's not borderline libellous..I THINK he was on drugs...is not the same as I CLAIM he was on drugs. Really a fairly big difference there which I, even though English is not my main language, can quite clearly see...so I'm assuming you can as well..(at least after I explained it to you)
I think it was the Ganja..the reefer..the pot, the spliffsies...or the hashies he was smoking BTW...or maybe he had a nice bit of cake. BUT seeing that I don't know this for a fact (and don't claim I know this for a fact) nor am I in the habit of taking pictures of people doing drugs (not that Rio actually ever did take drugs...though smoking the wacky backy would explain why he forgot he needed to take a drugs test )as seems to be common these days...I stick to the "I think"
My opinion (even though it is, of course, blatantly worthless and I never claimed otherwise) was asked for and therefore given. Someone asked if "I honestly thought that that was why he missed the drugstest"..my answer was No...I think he was smoking the nice stuff.
Edit; ...for keeping it nice.

Now..I suggest you run along to your local dealer and get some of whatever Rio might have/might not have been smoking as you quite clearly could do with some of the magic relaxation herb.
so you
don't
think he's a drug cheat then?

lol..you obviously are new..all my opinions are worthless...didn't know that that needed to be cleared up...I assumed everybody knew (at least those that have been reading my other posts should know). But thanks for showing an interest and for bringing an enlightened view to the debate on sports in drugs...really..much appreciated. I look forward to more of your work.

I'd better not get carried away with that.
Actually - what I meant was that what you're suggesting is that he wasn't trying to cover up the fact that he had taken any drugs which might illegally improve him as a footballer, but that he was trying to cover up his recreational use of drugs which, if anything, would slow his reflexes and make him worse.
Therefore you're suggesting he is not a cheat. QED

I have nothing to contribute to the debate. I was merely highlighting the futility of making statements that you are unable to back up. I might as well say that I think Theo Walcott is a smack head. Without any evidence, it's a meaningless assertion and hardly an enlighted contribution to the debate on 'sports in drugs' (sic).
Oh yeah, and Boldie, here’s a tip for you. Just because you have an opinion on every subject under the sun and have a Tourette-style compulsion to post your every waking thought on this forum, doesn’t make your opinions any more credible than those of us who post less frequently.
