This is the family who have given her her moral code
what moral code?!
the kid now at least stands half a chance, in that family she had no hope
I agree there is no moral code but whatever the code she was part of it and it was her norm. I'm not saying it was right but as the code given to her by her family she will have been accepting of it and like all children assumed that everything her family told her was 100% correct.
Children who have been abused by the mothers/fathers continue to love their parents and often will defend them to the hilt becuse they are their parents. Doesn't mean the morality is right but it is their normality.

I have to disagree Tikay - Shannon is just starting a terrible jouney of acceptance that her family (allegedly) decided to abduct her for financial gain. This is the family who have given her her moral code, warmth, roof over her head and whatever their level of safety is.
However bad that was, it was what Shannon was used to, and accepted as the norm. To have the security of that in tatters makes her life up to now almost farsical (sp?) as if everything she has learnt and lived with is no longer true or right.
Obv to those of us looking in it's patently not right what she may have been subjected to but to her it's what she's used to. But as she gets older and the realisation of some of the things that have happened in that household become understandable to her I think she will suffer greatly from it.
Physical abuse is bad enough but the mind is very powerful and will continue to cause her problems for a long time if not throughout her remaining childhood and adult life. It's not as cut and dried as we would like to hope.
Yes, I take your point Tracey, but she CAN recover from it, & her life can be better. As long as the child psychologists & counsellors, as well as Mollycoddlers United leave her alone, & she learns to look forward, not back, she can still have a great life. Many children have recovered from much worse. She was extremely unhappy at home - evidence is clearly available telling us that. I think, & hope, she'll be OK.

I understand the point you are making, in fact I have experience of it
Gladly it appears that Shannon herself was indicating she did not want to live there, so that is indicative to me of a switched on kid

That's true Tracey, but I think she has a better chance now.
"the norm", as kids, is what happens to us, & abused kids don't always suffer the way we think they do. We grow up, & then realise the abuse was morally awful. But we can still be happier & more fulfilled in adulthood.
But some of this stuff is a bit too delicate, & personal, to discuss openly, even on blonde.

Stunningly accurate. But no reason not to be rescued from it.

Me too, so we are all singing from the same hymn sheet. The point I was making is it's not all cut and dried - it's all ok now. Because it so isn't. Her entire grounding (whether right or wrong), the building blocks she has built her belief system on have been shattered. She will be starting over again.
Switched on kid? I hope so. She'll need to be.

A monkey quote
"Im only wrong when I admit to being wrong and I have never admitted it yet"
He's just golden.
A flop (Omaha High) came 9-9-2 last night, I held 9-2 & bet the Pot. Guy behind me flats, (same hand as it happens) & so does Monkey. Turn is another 2 - a dead card in fact. Rinse, repeat. River comes the K, & I check, Matey Boy checks, & Monkey bets out, we both Pass. Monkey shows KK for top house.
"Err, what did you call with on the Flop & Turn Monkey?"
"Two pair" says he, defiantly.
You gotta like him. Even he can't argue with that.

So Mr Kendall very kindly offers to drive me to my hotel on Saturday night as I was carless and it was late, snowing and he was concerned for my safety. (What a nice chap).
Concerned that I shoudn't offend him by refusing I thanked him and waited, and waited and waited while he played cash, ordered food, waited for it to arrive, ate said food and then proceeded to play more poker.
Eventually he noticed my red rimmed eyes, profuse yawning and extreme tiredness and we left in a blizard into Notts city centre. Half an hour later we are still driving around the ring road (for the fourth time) trying to find the hotel. Admittedly the weather is bad and it's not great visability but we are managing to make polite ocnversation, and he manages not to swear as he gets flashed by a camera as he accidentally drives through a red light.
We go around the ring road again and we are now at the stage of stopping at all road signs to peer at them through the windscreen wipers, and almost always seem to then go the wrong way. The man who runs the burger bar at the bottom of the flyover is now on my christmas list as he waved to us on our third and fourth run past.
Managing to stop at the traffic lights this time we are sitting there waiting for them to change to green. I say to Tikay "It's a times like this you wish you had a sat nav."
He turns to me with an incredulous look on his face, the penny having just dropped. "Oh he says, I've got sat nav"
Oh how I laughed.....

House prices are falling. The media have got hold of it & are shaking it to death.
It's the fault of the Government, the Chancellor, the mortgage lenders, the Building Societies, everyone. Homeowners expect help now - but why?
I don't recall signing a mortgage that said the price of my home was guaranteed to rise every year. Some years - usually every 5 or 10 years, when house prices "run away" (they always do), there is a correction. And they then resume their upward course. It's inevitable, as houses sit on land, & they don't make land any more, & every year there are more people, & they need somewhere to live.
Nobody considers the plight of youngsters starting out in life, for them, a house price correction is a golden opportunity to get on the bottom rung of the housing ladder.
And if our house - the house we want to sell - has gone down in value, so has the price of the house we want to buy.
The media's knee-jerking stupidity is so irresponsible, & our media has never been worse.
When our houses rise in value, do we credit the Government, the Chancellor, the Mortgage Lenders, the Banks? Nope, we say we bought astutely. There's none so blind.....
House prices are - temporarily - falling from artificial highs. Market Forces control these things with uncanny efficency. They'll rise again in time, rinse, repeat.
Nobody's gonna get hurt, or die. We just have to live with these ups & downs. In society we increasingly expect win-win every time. It don't work like that.

But did you know the address? (Rhetorical). Or the PostCode? (ditto).
What a bloody nightmare Nottingham Town Centre's road system is!
