Wasn't the Victoria held up at gun point a few years ago?

Is Mr Aitkin the same George who owns Rock City?

Yes, and yes.

George Aitkin sold "The Victoria Club" to Stakis I believe it was at that time, who moved the operation to it's current Maid Marion Way premises. He still owned the building on Victoria Street and some years later reopened it as a "private member's casino" with a £500 annual subscription, but many of these were "comped". It never really got off the ground the second time around and finally closed it's doors after about eighteen months, the "hold-up" seemed to be the death knell.

He had also head-hunted many casino staff from Nottingham and Derby when The Vic reopened, some of whom were less than thrilled to be made redundant within a few months of quitting their former positions.

Pretty sure the hotel was called "The Victoria " used to be the railway station hotel on the old midland line. My mother worked there as a housekeeper/maid in the 80's used to have some tales about visiting actors to the Theatre Royal and their "odd" habits Smiley

Nice to know lawyers keep things confidential, eh? Wink

And in a month's time the whole blinkin lot of us will be trying to find our way around the place.  At least we can wave to each other in the round about.

We passed the Burger Bar 4 times, & the Ice Rink 9 times, & never once could I (we?) find the bloody Victoria Centre, which is like, HUGE. Unbelievable. Took over an hour from DTD to the Vic Centre - about 3 miles, at 3am.

Lol, how is this possible?

Search me. And you know what? I first discovered the beauty of Nottingham in the seventies, when I was a sub-contractor on what was, at the time Europe's largest ever Shopping Centre & Car Pak - the Victoria Centre. And I played much of my snooker in the Lace Market, in John Singh's Club. (What a story John Singh & David Singh was!). And I stayed at the VERY Hotel that Dingdell was in hundreds of times over many years.

And I still could not find it. I bet we did 6 laps of the bloody Broadmarsh. There's a nightclub there, opposite the Broadmarch, by the Burger Bar, used to be called Barry Somebody or others - can't recall his name, but he owned The Vic Casino (Nottingham) many years ago, & a bunch of Betting Shops, & he was not a man to be messed with.

Perhaps someone can jog my memory now. The Hotel by The Vic is now a Hilton, but it used to be otherwise branded. Can anyone remind me what it used to be called? It had a "Guinness Clock" outside, too, anyone remember those?

Tikay involved in builiding a shopping centre and car park over a railway station, who would have thought, lol.

Funnily enough one of the tales was a famous actor who liked to watch two ladies whilst pleasuring himself and inviting cleaning staff in mid session

Victoria Hotel according to this site - which does make some sense. Smiley

EDIT: Here's a picture from Wikipedia - of the hotel and Nottingham Victoria rail station

Thanks Jon. The station - foreground - was demolished to make way for the Victoria Centre, but the Hotel - far right - remains. For some reason I thought the Hotel had another name. It was 40 years ago, mind.

The Government has decided, in it's wisdom, to authorise a Badger cull in Wales - the first authorised cull in GB for many a year.

It's suggested (by Farmers, & the Government) that Badgers contribute to the cause of bovine TB, which affects cattle.

Last year, the Independent Scientiftic Study Group said "badger culling can make no meaningful contribution to cattle TB control in Britain".

But....farmers get compensated for cattle affected/slaughtered by TB. The compensation cost in 2001 was £1,800,000, last year it was up to £15,000,000. So there's the motive. Money.

1) Why on earth should Farmers be compensated if their cattle fall ill? Nobody compensates us if blonde has a bad month, the server gets virus-affected, or a builder buys a load of moody bricks, or if Dingdell's clinic facilities have a breakdown? Farmers even got compensated when Foot & Mouth broke out. Why? What's so special about Farmers?

2) Interfering with nature's natural processes never works, & history is littered with eco-disasters resulting from human intervention.

I don't like.

Hmmmm...... not sure you can use both of these to back up the same argument.

As they say, you can't have it both ways........... (or if you can it will be double the cost!!).

He got 14 weeks inside, which, hopefully, will help him clean up. It'll do him a huge favour, he's on his way to an early death.

Personally, I detest him, but that's partly the Medias fault, as they lionise him, because he's a celeb who does drugs. Some of us - many of us - abhor such waste of life & lives that drug abuse causes.

But 14 weeks means, apparently, he will be out in 4. Why? That's just ridiculous.

The Government has told the Judiciary to send less people to Prison, to alleviate prison overcrowding. That's how our Government tackles crime. Did you ever hear anything so daft as that? Talk about starting at the wrong end of the problem!
