There was an article the other day when the reclassiification of cannabis was being mooted showing which drugs actually did a person the most harm vis-a-vis their actual classification, and including tobacco and alcohol in the scheme. The results were as follows, from most harmful to least harmful.

a) Heroin, cocaine.

b) Amphetamines, LSD.

c) Alcohol, tobacco.

d) Cannabis, marijuana, & ecstasy.

I don't think that anyone can deny that taxation is at the root of the actual classifications.

Ralph,

Do you think or believe, that in a "significant" number of cases, the use of d) leads to the use of b) & a).

I am, of course, via tobacco, in Group C. I hope to be ex Group C soon, but I don't think Group c) leads to b), d), or a), so far as I am aware..

As Rod Paradise said in his excellent post on this thread yesterday, the use of d) leads to dealers, which then lead to a) and b), whereas c) leads to supermarkets and shops.

Nothing to do with the railways, you always go up to the capital.

Correct - if you live South of London. Using conventional compass readings.

I say "going down to London" but i *know* that the correct terminology is to go up, i remember some things from school, or QI...

Sometimes you have to suffer a little bit in your youth to motivate yourself to succeed in later life.

Of course not.

So cannabis use tends to lead to cocaine & heroin use in some cases? That's a bad thing, surely?

But according to studies, this is not the case in Holland where cannabis is legal.

I'm sure that tobacco leads many to cannabis too.

...Meanwhile, subtly changing tack, so impercetibly you may not even notice......

Tonight's guests on Sky Poker include Luther Blissett, a footballer-chappie. I think he may be an ex-footballer. Send in your e-Mails about him - or PM me with them, & we'll ask him what's what.

The Presenter is Michelle Orpe, who's a girlie, if I'm not mistaken. She's just arrived, & looks like a walking jumble-sale, wearing desert boots for goodness sake. Girls fashions these days, eh?

Tonight, as I'm back here tomorrow, I stay over at Heathrow, Jurys Hotel, right by the runway. Don't get better than that. The 'planes take off - that's go UP, & land - come DOWN.

Richard!

And to think I credited you with having received a decent Education. Hugh Gaitskill has much to answer for.

Blissett's been on before, we did the whole "did they buy you by mistake thinking you were John Barnes, Le Mans 24 hr team" thing on a thread back then I think

p.s Heathrow does not count for up/down going to London purposes

though of course you would always go down to City Airport, whether taking off or landing

He got 14 weeks inside, which, hopefully, will help him clean up. It'll do him a huge favour, he's on his way to an early death.

Personally, I detest him, but that's partly the Medias fault, as they lionise him, because he's a celeb who does drugs. Some of us - many of us - abhor such waste of life & lives that drug abuse causes.

But 14 weeks means, apparently, he will be out in 4. Why? That's just ridiculous.

The Government has told the Judiciary to send less people to Prison, to alleviate prison overcrowding. That's how our Government tackles crime. Did you ever hear anything so daft as that? Talk about starting at the wrong end of the problem!

Tikay. I doubt prison will "help clean him up". And how can you "abhor such waste of life and lives that drug causes" when smoking is known to take years off your life, especially when you quit, and then re-started again? Are you not doing to yourself what you find so detesting in others?

I'm not having a go, I'm just confused by your approach.

Because cigarette smoking, which I do, with much guilt I freely admit, does not generally lead to wasted lives, crime (to feed the habit), & dreadful personality changes. I have "normal" friiends who act weird & peculiar, totally obnoxiously & "difficult", & are not at all themselves after cannabis use, & I don't much respect that.

I'm afraid we'll never agree on this. I think cannabis use, leading so often as it does to full-on drug use, is a bad thing. Show me someone (except when used medicinally) whose body benefits from drug use?

Of course it's illogical & stupid that I smoke. That does not make it right though.
