Hi Tikay

Just seen this list of the 7 wonders of the civil engineering world.

1/ channel tunnel
2/ CN tower
3/ Empire State Building
4/ Golden gate bridge
5/ Itaipu Dam
6/ Netherlands North Sea protection wall
7/ Panama Canal

Whats your opinion on the 7 and are they any wonders that you would put in the list instead

Been musing on this today Jim. No answer yet, but I have so far decided that......

1) Panama Canal. A shoe-in.

2) Hoover Dam, ditto. (Thank you for the 'photos, I may put them up later).

The Channel Tunnel will NOT be in. It's just a tunnel, albeit a big one. Brunel's father deserves credit for tunnel-driving innovation.

Not sure about Golden Gate Bridge, though I agree it's special, & I have spent many an hour gazing at it from all angles. But probably not a nominee.
I don't know enough about the other 4 you mentioned - yet - but I'm on the case.

It's certainly intrigued me.

The pyramids are a pretty impressive bit of civil engineering, imo.

As is the London Underground.

Well yes - but do they qualify as "Civil" Engineering, as opoposed to plain Construction?

As far as civil engineering, how about the London Sewers. Bridges, well surely the Forth Rail Bridge needs consideration.

The sewers is a good call.

As far as bridges go, this bridge is pretty special:

I saw a question on a game show the other day asking for the 6 busiest undergrounds in the world and I was most suprised to discover that the London underground was not one of them

this bridge is indeed truly astonishing..a beautiful piece of engineering..and a triumph to what mankind can do when we stop pussyfooting about and really put our mind (and money) to it.

These two both examples

at no. 5, the Mexico City Metro. what an interesting place that is. the maps appear to bear no resemblance to the actual lines, in fact I'm pretty sure they were just borrowed from Moscow. I was lost under that city for about 3 hours trying to find the airport.

Agreed.. apart from one tiny tiny thing..

when explaining the very first hand ( think it was a demo one).. it was a split pot but both of them missed it and awarded it to one player :p

Very minor.. rest of the show was fantastic and much more of the same please Smiley

yes I agree, great show. you really got across your knowledge and  huge enthusiasm for the game.Well done mate, you can be proud !

Mrs slowmo says pink is very trendy so despite my own reservations, i will  have to bow to your collective fashion sense  . being in touch with your feminine side is a good thing.  maybe u need to shop for matching accessories.

i  even ensured i was eliminated from the tourney at dtd so I was home to watch. Hope the big suits were pleased.
