The Aviary in the foreground is only 50 years old, & has a huge & eclectic range of birds, including Cockatoos (or was it Cockatiels?), Canaries, Mynah Birds, LoveBirds, & plenty others I've forgotten. The circular Aviary at the rear is 150 years old, but is currently not in use.

A plaque in front of the original Aviary reads (words to the effect)......

Contrary to belief, it is not cruel to keep birds in this aviary. Indeed, some birds, upon getting free, return of their own volition. If it is slightly unfair on the birds, well, the joy that seeing them gives to visitors more than makes up for the slight discomfort of the birds". A bit Non-PC these days, I'd say....

Did you take those pics Tikay? They are very good.

Similar place in Northampton by one of the museums with a bandstand etc - but we also have monkeys and other things. These quirky and strange little places are a real find.

Fantastic museum where you can get inside a concorde and marvel.

Last week marked the 10 year anniversary of the death of Frank Sinatra.

I was suprised to see May 14th pass without a tribute to the man described as " The Chairman Of The Board".

Possibly the greatest entertainer of all time on his death all the lights on the Las Vegas strip were dimmed in tribute.

He may of been forgotten by some but will always be remembered by millions around the world.

If only, Vegas still had the original Rat Pack

Yes, if it's Autumn in Nottingham.

Yes, if it's Autumn in Nottingham.

It is a little known fact that when entering The Arboretum one steps into a time warp where it is constantly the Autumn of 1852, which explains why Tikay enjoys his afternoons there once more restored to the pomp of a man in his early forties.

I would like to apologise - I had had a little wine - 1 glass - which for me is the equivalent of 2 bottles to everybody else -not including Duke and Dewi obv.

I now realise that a marvel is not a type of aircraft but is a 'wonderment' or something similar. In my defence Tighty's post was a little confusing.

As for it being Autumn in Nottingham, I understood that seasons were irrelevant and not acknowledged in Nottingham, borne out by the fact that all women in Nottingham go out without their coats on a Saturday night whether snowing or just raining.  idiot

When I was married we kept Cockatiels. My ex-wife had a Cockatoo.

Did I take the pics? Sadly not - I got them from this splendid website......

http://www.digicam69.co.uk/arboretum.htm

I really must get a little camera. 'Ling (skrikera) told me that the pictures of Rookie & 'Ling's dogs - Cassey & Rodney? - in the Lounge were taken on a fairly low-price Digital Camera, purchased at Dublin Airport. I miust get one.
