If you get chance to visit Kew Grdens, take a look at one of Britain's most interesting perimeter walls - it runs for miles along Kew Road (?), & is constructed entirely of London "Stock Bricks", or "Yellow Stocks" as they are commongly known. These bricks, "London Stocks", or "Yellow Stocks", are, even today, the most expensive bricks you can buy - & you can only buy them second-hand, from Demolition sites & somesuch. They knew how to do things back in the day.

Two quick pics from Kew Gardens, before my Power-Nap.

This is a moody pic of the famous Pagoda.

I thought Mayor Ken Livingstone was always an interesting speaker, worth listening to, even when he sometimes spoke trite nonsense.

But Boris Johnson - as long as he survives, anyway, which might not be long - is huge fun, & a must watch/listen.

He's almost a Simpsons charicature, with his straw hair & bumbling peech. I think he's the world's worst liar, too - & he generally gives himself away, self-deprecatingly. In short, very honest. Sometims daft, always honest.

He had his first Mayoral Meeting earlier this week, & dumbfounded the dumb with his style of speech & prose - as inventive, & maybe as clever, as Jen Mason's inventive use of words.

The Assembly were gathered, ready to rip him to pieces, & he started proceedings in a way which totally disarmed them all.

"I submit myself to your catechism". Which they all thought was incorrect use of "catechism".

Round One to Boris.

Yes but that was just a bit of feedback. I want to tell you about two stone gateposts, the legend of Big Barry Langdon and Battery eyed Bob. and the story of my 900 mile trip to buy a wardrobe.

60 odd runners for tonight's £75 Freeze at Luton, held in the most amiable of environments, the player-base there these days are largely friendly, prepared to have some fun, & always ready to smile.

I shared a table with Stephen Kirk initially, & never realised what a proficient 7 Card-Stud player he was - he told me he won the World Stud Championship in gorgeous Baden back in 2000 or 2001, & also won £9,800 in a Luton Stud Event in 2001.

Lots of faces present, including Rob Garfield, Dave Courteney, Dave Lloyd, Ambro, Lalit, Dick Lynch, Dingdell, Mo Muse, etc - & if you can't have some fun with that crowd, you never will.

I played pretty good, without hands all night, & was mostly average or thereabouts, just dancing enough to keep my stack playable. But if you dance enough, you are bound to trip up eventually, & after I pillaged the same guys BB 6 or 7 times, he eventually found a hand, & I was goosed, in 16th place I think. Pah.

I was given the names of my 4-ball partners in the Luton Golf Day on Monday week - Paul Alterman, his Son-In-Law, and an unknown by the name of Dave Compton.  I need to go knock some balls round Wollaton next week first though - I've not touched a club in nearly 2 years, don't even know where my bats are. Dave & I have been asked to do the Presentation afterwards, with "suitable" speeches. Only the brave had better attend, there will be some serioius piss-taking that night. Formal dress optional, sense of humour mandatory.

Back to tonight's poker, with 12 left, Dingdell was on 40k - plenty above average. Her game has changed beyond recognition since her Paul Jackson Masterclasses, & I feel she'll go very close tonight, to follow up her sixth place on Monday.

Walsall tomorrow night (Saturday) for their splendid £300, though I'm not sure it will attract a big field, it only had 40 odd last month I'm told - it used to attract 150+ every month. It clashes with a Blackpool £500 tomorrow, too - Grosvenor really do seem determined not to work as a team, which is very sad, as they have been the mainstay of UK Tournament Poker for many years, but they are all at sea with their scheduling here. We need a "Fixtures Committee/Board", it would benefit everyone - players & venues like.
