The Times, Tuesday June 17, 2008

"Barton's tough stance.

Joey Barton, who is serving a six-month prison sentence for assault, will not countenance a pay cut to remain at St James Park. Newcastle United have not ruled out any option in rgard to their controversial midfield player, including sacking him, but Barton will not accept the Club's proposal to halve his £60,000 weekly wage.

"Joey won't be taking a pay cut", Willie McKay, the former Manchester City player's agent said, "I hope he gets his football career back on track with Newcastle".

Bolton Wanderers said yesterday they were not interested in signing him".

I got to thinking about this. If Barton were - hypothetically - the best player in Britain, would you still employ him given his circumstances & character? As with Anneka I suppose, who initially declined to take a penalty in the CL Final because he was sulking because he had been played out of position?

No, I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole..bloody cheeck to say "I'm in jail but still want 60k a week" F Off..never to be seen on a footiepitch again...If a chairman has any respect for the club he'd sack him on the spot.

No, it's speed that kills.

Agreed. At 5mph the accident would not have happened. Wink

Don't start that again, right?

We had a whole bunch of blondes there too (apologies for those omitted), but it included Brendan, AndrewT, Kinboshi, jizzem, bigalhx, Rudders, Bainn & Harmony, & plenty more besides.

Yeah but all those other people are just fish - I was merely really unlucky.

On more than one occasion.

A Crop Circle (see below, left, ) was found in the West Country yesterday. It purports to represent a complex mathematical formula, which represents the first ten numerals of pi. On the right, is a graphic of the formula.

The Times notes......

Lucy Pringle, who researches the effects of electromagnetic fields on living systems and crop formations and has the largest database of crop circles in the world said of the phenomenon: “This is an astounding development — it is a seminal event.”

She later also remarked that she believed sofa-king when he Posted that he could swim 400 miles round Cyprus in 4 days.

Here's the angelic looking Alex Martin, at Luton tonight. He Finalled, in bad shape, but I hope he goes on to Cash. (Only 5 paid).

He's excellent Table Company, & reads the game so well. I was gently speech-playing to get a free card on on occasion, & he sussed & exposed me in a nana-second, pah.

He got moved to my Table for a 2nd time, & tried to blag his way into the vacant Small Blind seat - the best seat on the Table! So I got even & he was moved ino the worst seat, as he should. Kids, eh?

This rather blurry image is Lalit Khajuria, & he & his Brother, Chandra, are two of the most respected (& wealthy) guys in poker, never once touched by even the merest hint of impropriety.

His Database of Fessie Cashes is as long as your arm, & includes £67k for winning the European Classic at The Vic a few years back. He has a whole bunch of Cashes in Helsinki, where he's just purchased a Flat, & either he (or Chandra, I don't recall) is married to a Finn. He cashed in Helsinki 2 weeks ago, in fact. But he's more than happy to come to Luton & play £50 & £100 Tourneys regularly. He's very well-liked by almost everyone, including me. He's 8th in the Luton All-Time Winners List.

His brother Chandra, thinner, taller, & bespectacled, has an equally long list of Fessie Cashes in his Database, again including Helsinki, where he cashed in the recent Main Event. He's 12th in the Luton All-Time Winners List.

Poker is always more fun when either or both these two are present.

They were the first guys who I ever heard refer to Jacks as "Bobbies", & it's said they have never passed pocket Jacks in their life.

Why do so few bands have female drummers? What's the thing there?

See the drummer in this Vid - anyone know the story, what happened to her? She turned me on like nobody ever did. Are there any other female drummers? (I'm assuming it was a female?). It may be a fetish.

Madonna was a drummer.

I'm staying in Luton tonight, but head home first thing in the morning to attend to some business. Then I head down & book into a London hotel - probably at Heathrow - and plan to hook up with some friends in the evening for a meal & a chinwag, go back to the Hotel after, so I can get to Feltham bright & early on Friday for a Telecon at Midday, & the Primo Show in the evening, after which I'll head back home.

Saturday I hope to play, for the first time, the DTD £200 Freezeout. Sadly, I've not been there for almost a fortnight, as they canned my fave Comp of the week, the Sunday night £100 Freezeout, so I go to Luton on Sundays now instead, but I'm looking forward to Saturday's £200 Freeze, which should play really well.

Then on Sunday it's back down to Feltham for the Sunday Showdown. I'll stay over, as I'm doing Monday's Show too, then go home. Back to Feltham on Thursday for the Five-O, back home on Friday to pack, & down to Feltham again on Saturday for my first ever Sky Poker Show with the Fish Compo presenting - that's one I'm really looking forward to! Stay over, then fly to Vegas on the Sunday morning. Time is just whizzing by.

I saw Zara Phillips being interviewed at Royal Ascot yesterday - my word, she's gorgeous.

She's impishly mischievous, cheeky, well-spoken, with a perfect figure, every inch a woman, has some edge & attitude, & very much her mother's daughter. Her Mum has always been my favourite Royal, & does more Royal Engagements and Charity work than any of them. Zara, meanwhile, is a world-class Show-Jumper. I fancy Mum is very proud of her.

President Bush was in the UK this week, & was ferried around in "Marine One", the Presidential Helicopter. Well, make that plural Helicopter, because there are no less than 26 "Marine One"s.

They cost $400 million. Each.

I was cruising to the Final tonight in Luton, until I got duped when my 2 pair (A-4, on an A-K-4 flop in an unraised Pot, I was BB), - which I was 100% convinced were good, got well & truly mashed by beautifully played pocket Kings. That left me with about 2k, with Blinds 400-800.

I soon got my money in, plenty of callers, obviously - with

The flop was a near perfect  Two Diamonds

Very nice.

On the Turn it improved even further.

  Two Diamonds

And the River?

  Two Diamonds

So a quadruple up, & though I got busted eventually on the Final Table Bubble, what a lovely memory that straight flush was. Don't get many of them.
