Will get back up to date soonest, so much catching up to do, & there's some "stuff" going down that I need to help sort.

Got home 5pm yesterday, met Angell (who's fine, but sulking), & was back on the road by 8pm, stayed at Luton overnight so I could be at Feltham by 9am. Arrived Feltham Noon, poo. Got a lovely welcome from everyone. I like it here a lot.

Do the Show tonight with Norman, & am due to be in Blackpool tomorrow & Sunday for the APAT Forum Challenge. I'm still dithering on that - I have so much stuff to sort out, catch up on, businesss & personal, I just can't decide. I'd not get home from Feltham until 4am, & would need to set off for Blackpool by 9am. We'll see.

Jet-Lag has not hit me yet - maybe it won't.

Will reply to your comments soonest, but I gotta go do some work on the "State of the Forum" thread first.

Jet lag can't hit you if you never sleep so you should be OK.

in the top picture, what's the lady at the back telling the child? she looks upset, its bothering me

I don't think she's upset - it looks like the child is just looking for something in that box.

what is the picture please? by which painter?

i need to search out the meanings in it

Good Lord, was just scouring through the diary when I spotted something I could actually assist on, so I just had to post!

I studied Art History at Uni and recall coming across this painting. It's Venus of Urbino and was painted by Titian. It has become iconic in the art world and replicated many times, even by artists as famous as Manet three centuries later when Impressionism emerged.

The child in the background is, I believe, one of two maids or servants scouring through a clothes chest looking for clothes. This, although there is a lot of individual interpretation involved, is perhaps reflective of how the more critical viewers would have been thinking, as it was a rather risky image at the time.

In many ways, it's quite a straight forward painting. It's about seduction, eroticism, lust and teasing the viewer. In classical depiction, Venus is meant to be idealised, not look like a hooker like she does here. This is perhaps why it garnered so much attention.

If you are looking for something intriguing, then check out Diego Velzquez's Las Meninas. One of my favourite paintings.

Yes, that's the one. It's a fascinating painting.

is it a (sort of) self-portrait?

Little is known for certain, but it's a play on perspective and who is looking at who?

For example, is the artist in the painting? Is he looking in a mirror? Is the painting we're looking at the one in the painting? Or is it a completely different person, with the artist standing in the same place as the viewer? Is that him in the mirror at the back? Or is it the subject of his painting, perhaps the King and Queen? Is it even a mirror? Who's the dude in the back? Who's the little girl? Why's the other girl stepping o nthe dog? What are the paintings on the wall? Are they famous? Do they have any relevance? Is that a nun?!

I love this painting, produces so many questions. It's like a little mystery that you have to try and solve.
