Dear Mr Kendall
Please warn us in advance when you intend to skewer marshmallows with a bic biro.
Members of our audience have copied you and subsequently complained of ink poisoning
Also, Marshmallows do not have a biscuit base.
Please concentrate next time.

You watched? I hang my head in shame.
PS - The biro had the "top" on. So it's ok.

What a shock to learn tonight, quite by chance, that Eric "The Screw" Barker died in a car crash in Thailand last month.
He was a good friend, & I liked him immensely. All I can say is that he lived life to the full, and played poker full-on, he was arguably the most aggressive player I've ever seen, very much in the Ali Mallu/Mad Turk category.
His claim to fame was back at Teeside in around 2003 or 2004, at the Gala Teeside Fessie, when he won three straight Festival Events - no chops, no deals - on consecutive nights.
Later, he was one of the Final Three in a Luton Main Event which marked Thewy's breakthrough into the big-time, the Final three were Thewy, Camel & Eric. Thewy played an astonishing hand against Eric, Eric bluffing every street, & Thewy calling with his paired deuce, meaning Eric finished 3rd. Eric always said that was one of the most amazing plays he'd ever seen, given that it was for Thewy's Tournie - worth about £45k. (Business was done Heads-Up).
I was in Newcastle with Chili a while back, & those two got on famously, too.
What a shock, but typical Eric that he went out living life to the full.
RIP Eric.

I heard while in Blackpool - though never saw it on blonde - that "Badda", the one-time Walsall regular, who became a Glasgow resident & played in Cincins etc, died the week before last.
He, at one time, owned, in partnership with Ash Pervais if I recall correctly, the big Curry House right opposite Grosvenor Walsall.
In his younger days, he was a very fine cricketer, playing, I'm told, for Pakistan, & he still chilled with the Pakistan Test Squad when they were Touring over here.
He'd be about 50 I guess.

RIP to both
There is a thread on this board about Badar's passing. Many of us played against him at BB2 at Cincins
As to Eric the screw, fearsome player to play against. Never took a step back, ever.

On a brighter note, I'm chuffed to bits for Simon Trumper.
3 Finals from 4 Big-Buck Events, that takes some doing. 2nd, 4th, & 9th, for plenty thousand, & his Stakers are all well on the right side. And they all got paid sharpish.
He's as straight as a die, totally trustworthy, & he tells it as it is, without recourse to ill manners. He got a right mauling on one of the blogs this week, but it never bothered him, he just shrugs his shoulders, keeps his own counsel, & moves on, doing his thing. He's a genuinely decent man.
Well done Simon.

Could you find that Badar thread for me please?
As for Eric, yup, you've got him in one. Fearless.

I just heard from James Browning that Lynne Beaumont has won the Betfred Ladies Championship, which took place on Saturday, at The Western. I think this might be the second year running she's won it.
The improvement in her game is phenomonal - she's among the 3 best Female Players in the UK.
And a most pleasing personality, too.
Delighted for her, & James is as proud as punch of her - so much so he keeps nattering on about it. And who can blame him?

OK, I'm going home - 3 hours should do it, sigh. Coffee & Radio 4 FTW.

There was a great programme on Radio 4 today, about Yorkshire Mining communities in the 1950's.
Each Colliery held an Annual Beauty Contest for the Wives or Daughters of Colliers, Beauty Contests were prevelant in that day & age.
So there was Miss Hatfield Main Colliery, Miss Grimethorpe Colliery, Miss Maltby Colliery, & so on.
Every year, all the winners would go to Blackpool, for a sort of "Best of the Best" competition, a much sought-after accolade.
And upon the winner was bestowed the title - Miss Coal-Face.

Indeed she did win it last year and picked up a nice £20k sponsorship deal - I guess she's done the same again. Well done Lynn!!

yeah, a more affable couple you will seldom meet.
Lynne and i shared a table in a broadway £300er a few months ago, we were fairly deep. 20 or so left i believe, she was pretty short but a few timely doubles saw
to that. The thing i found was the image that she had developed she wasnt using properly.
With that i mean she was moving in and doubling up, and then not using her new found stack to the optimal means, but thats her perogotive afterall.
Lynne was on about 9bb on the bb and i had her well covered when i found A3h on the button, i was well aware or my table image and the type of hands people were willing to ship it in with vs one of my LP raises. Due to this my calling range had to loosen up a bit. I had decided as soon as i looked at my cards that i was gonna 4-bet jam over the small blind if he 3-bet me, and call lynne's shove.
The SB folded and Lynne shoved, i snap called and held vs her JTo. I think she was a bit bemused by a) by call b) the speed of which i called.
A little later i saw a stewards inquiry of sorts taking place about my play. I just smiled and carried on.
The next night myslef, and a few friends went out in birmingham on the lash and, as we poker players seem to do, went back into the casino for a spot of cash.
I was in the seat next to Lynne, and we started discussing the hand. I explained that my call was more down to my image than hers, and that i felt she needed to open her wings a little more with the respect the table were giving her open raises. We had a good chat and a good laugh and i think she was listening to my genuine advice. I like both james and Lynne, very good people.
Dunno if lynne is top 3 women in the UK but i think she could be there soon as shes a smart lass and no doubt takes all the experienced gathered on board.

Oh no! That is terrible news about Eric Barker. I met him a number of times over the years and absolutely loved being in his company. He livened up both the atmosphere and the poker at any tournament we shared. Sad Sad news.

Managed to watch some of it whilst there on Saturday. IMHO she looked a different class to the others.
It was being recorded, so I guess it will be on telly at some stage.
