I just heard from
James
Browning
that
Lynne
Beaumont
has won the Betfred Ladies Championship, which took place on Saturday, at The Western. I think this might be the second year running she's won it.
The improvement in her game is phenomonal - she's among the 3 best Female Players in the UK.
And a most pleasing personality, too.
Delighted for her, & James is as proud as punch of her - so much so he keeps nattering on about it. And who can blame him?
Managed to watch some of it whilst there on Saturday. IMHO she looked a different class to the others.
It was being recorded, so I guess it will be on telly at some stage.
played with this lady on Friday night at Luton. Very rare to see someone with such a calm and calculating presence. Deffo some serious talent there somewhere.

Tonight, I'm gonna be a sort of Mini-Flushy, & play a load of Online stuff.
At 7.30, it's the blonde League Game on blonde - Dear Lord, PLEASE let Kev be on my Table - & also the £55 £750 Guaranteed on Sky Poker, followed by the blonde/Punters Lounge affair on Trillion, notwithstanding my loathing of "Team" Poker, (sorry guys, I can't be doing with this soft-play malarky, that's not poker), then/parallel with the Sky Poker Deepstack jobbie.
As I had originally planned/hoped to play tonight's The Vic £500, I reckon I'm about £420 ahead already.
Good Luck all. Come bust me.

It's closed now. I'm out of both the Sky £55-er, & the Trillion thing. My Lappie froze for 40 mins, & I almost blinded out of the Sky jobbie before shoving with atc. In the Trillion thing the Lappie chose to wake up just as I found KQ & a Button Raiser on my BB, I called, flop K-J-T. His Aces held. (;

In amongst today e-Mail Trade Tosh, was this missive from PokerStars, or, more correctly, from their PR peeps.....
Good afternoon
On behalf of PokerStars we could like to invite you to the launch of a new book on Texas Hold'em called 'Holden on Hold'em' on the 3rd December starting at 6:30 pm in London.
The book has been written by journalist Anthony Holden and is the first truly readable poker manual, containing analyses of the differences between home and casino play, between cash and tournament play, and between internet poker and face-to-face play. The book also contains a brief history of the game and anecdotes about its great players.
In addition to receiving a signed copy of the book, PokerStars will also be holding a media tournament where competitors will be able to win the chance to take part in the San Remo leg of the PokerStars European Poker Tour.
The launch is being held at The Loose Cannon, 13 - 16 Allhallows Lane, London, EC4R 3UL.
If you would like to attend the launch and perhaps play in the media tournament it wold be great if you could let me know.
Many thanks
Which, I thought, begged two questions.
1) Loose Cannon - an interesting choice of Venue for 'Stars.
2) Are 'Stars sponsoring Anthony Holden's latest book? If not, what is their involvement?

And I thought....
first truly readable poker manual
....was typical PR piffle - just PR peeps plying their trade in the same old, tired, way, & assuming we are all a bit daft.
If ever these PR guys found someone who could write puff with even a touch of originality or wit, they'd go far.
I'm sure it's a very fine book indeed, but "first truly readable poker manual" is a bit rich!

What a day! That "Shame on You" Thread sure put the cat amongst the pigeons, & spawned a mountain of collateral work, PM's, e-Mails & stuff. All well-meaning, well-intended, I hasten to add. I swerved The Vic's £500 to play it, so I get let off I guess, but if I had not played it, I confess I'd have been a bit miffed by the criticism. And in fact, I wish I had not played it. I just don't like "Team Poker", & that's that, with all that nudge & wink stuff going off. Thread-Starter Suzanne, of course, is a very passionate blonde, & her thoughts were entirely blonde-supportive. What a spot to be in, eh? But it was jut a bit of fun, & nobody got hurt.
I also played the Final Event of the blonde League, & I thoroughly enjoyed it - it went right to the wire, with WinalotFred & Geo The Sarge duelling up to the very death. Nice to see HoldorFold win it in a canter though, well played Michelle.
I'm off to Luton tonight, a London meet in the morning, then on down to the Hickstead Hotel, from where I'll go on to play Thursday evening's Rendezvous two day £300-er. I need to get off-Forum for a day or so, today has been a bit more stressful than I care for.
Friday night I'm PTP-ing, & I'm 50/50 for some Location-based film work on Sunday, & if it fails to materialise, I'll play the Brighton Main Event.
We shall see.

As Media Tourneys are free to enter - the assumption being one will write nice cooey-wooey stuff about the Sponsor - it's not something that can be complained about. I've been lucky enough to play loads of these, but it has to be said, they are structured even worse than Ladies Events - typically, 1,000 Chips & 10 or 15 minute Blinds. Very odd, really, all things considered.

I quite liked Holdens first book. The second was not quite so good IMHO. He has a nice style. He should have stuck to novels rather than books on Hold em IMHO

Maybe, Phil, but how did 'Stars come to enter this equation?

The father known as Mr X has complained in a letter from his cell that he had got nothing but a prison sentence while his daughters now had the benefits of the children he had fathered.
In the extraordinary letter, the man — who liked to refer to himself as “The Gaffer” — said that he had no regrets but that he feared for his future after pleading guilty to 25 rapes. “All that has come out of this is a long sentence for me,” the 56-year-old wrote. “We were all getting on well before this came out, what went wrong? My daughters have got something out of this — kids — what have I got?"
How on earth did this ogre get away with this for so long?
Most of his Daughters children by him - at least those who survived, as many died - or were killed? - at birth, have genetic defects, some of them terminal.
It's really tough to get one's head round just how bad this case is.
