Shakespeare refers to flapjack in Pericles, Prince of Tyre, but this is one of the many anachronisms in his historical plays and does not suggest that he thought it was a middle eastern dish, merely a common English dessert of the time:
"Come, thou shant go home, and we'll have flesh for holidays, fish for fasting-days, and moreo'er puddings and flap-jacks, and thou shalt be welcome."
Act II Scene I
I think he was also quite fond of scones.

Every five seconds a child dies from malnutrition or from (preventable) water-borne disease. Or is it every 3 seconds? Yet people seem to be far more concerned with the global threat of 'terrorism' which affects a tiny proportion of people.
Makes better telly though.
Not sure if a poker forum is the best place to discuss these things though
. Or maybe, it is?
It would seem, not, & that's, perhaps, understandable.
The oddity is that blonde Forum contains an extraordinarily eclectic range of topics, many of them far removed from poker. But natural disasters don't seem to be included in our broad church.
Can we talk about church?
Charlotte ?
This is what I refer to as the "frumpy look", but women seem to get very sensitive about that description.
frumpy? fat a fcuk is what i call it. Oh id love a flapjack too and Flushy is wrong for once Israel ftw. thats er mal notes for last 5 pages.

His constituents did.
They didn't vote for him to lead the country buddy. While your point is genuine the tards up and down the country voted Blair not governmental due process. Brown had a respectable opportunity to go to these labour constituents in EVERY borough and give them that choice. But he was told he would lose. So he did not.
I am a card carrying member of the Tory party but its ridic for even someone as biased as me to claim that Brown was not elected, he was elected in exactly the same manner as Blair was. They were then both elected in the house of commons by their peers to be the PM. You make it sound like a coup!

Too many people wallow in the rhetoric about the Middle-East with all too little knowledge of the true facts imho.

We elect parties not Prime Ministers. Regardless of who is or is going to be the leader, parties are elected on the strength of their manifestos. Blair became Labour leader after an election following the death of John Smith. Gordon Brown however became leader of the Labour party and the Prime Minister by a series of maneuvers which essentially allowed him to bagsy the position. The man is almost phobic about elections. He's never faced one and if his intention was just to continue with the promises pledged in their manifesto there is no obligation for him to call an election, but he's intention appears to be to do everything his own way in typical Stallinist, commy, incompetent sombitch Brown style and therefore he really ought to ask us via a general election if we're happy with the direction he wants to take us, which is straight into the gutter. He won't of course as the answer will be no thank you.

Also, I didn't want to comment on the whole Israel thing cause that's why I have a blog, to stop me from arguing over politics and religion with people I don't know only to frustrate myself without solving anything. But anyway, going back to what Tikay was originally saying regarding civilians getting hurt and how depressing it all is, unfortunately it's in our nature to destroy ourselves. We're a funny species, if there's an opportunity for confrontation we'll find it. Whether it's on a national macro level using tanks and guns or an individual micro level in pubs with pool cues we've evolved into a supremely volatile and confrontational species and there's not a lot we can do about it. The saddest and most depressing aspect of it all is that it's rarely the people who start these wars and fights who ultimately end up getting hurt by them, the only consolation for all those children who are being massacred all over the world and solace for those who are depressed by their plight, is at least they are returned to the blissful nothing from whence they came which must surely be a better place.
The end.

Our foreign policy is basically to champion democracy around the world. We believe in the concept of democracy so passionately we send our soldiers to their deaths to defend it. And we use the pursuit of it to excuse taking the lives of innocent everyday civilians. Or at least that is what we say. Cos when the leader of the country steps down I would say you've got a pretty simple opportunity to do some democracy championing violence free. What you shouldn't do imo is hint at calling an election, get a vibe for your chances, realise the people don't want you, and just continue in power anyway. You then hang about as long as you can until mood swings in your favour and snap-call an election when it best suits you to do so.
This is called angle-shooting James. And due process is the angle.

How many times can i say it Mantis, they did the democratic thing!!!
You might not like the way the system works well then that's fair enough however there are plenty more flaws to look at ahead of how the PM is chosen.
