So, 4 left in the Empire Final, & I've got the kid tagged now. Internet plyer. He had no idea of table etiquette, has his big denom chips at the back, passed out of turn regularly, & was heavy on the trash talk.

Worse still, he had two buds Railing him, one was John Tabatabajahat or whatever. The Kid - alone, at one end of the Table, was showing them his cards, & they were oohing & arring, & it was all a bit iffy. But they never spoke, or "hinted". Then, put to a decision, he flipped his cards up to his Railing Team, as if to say, "what you reckon?". His two mates knew better, & moved away now & gave him no hints or clue, but the other players had had enough, & it went off for a bit. The Kid said to me at the break, "why are these guys making all the fuss, I can show my mates my cards", & I tried to make him aware of the ettiquettey-ness of it all. Not easy.....

But he wants a Deal now, badly. He proposes a number, Chinese Man says no. Kid presses harder, & now his Railers enter the argument. This is just plain wrong. Only the guys at the Table can engage in the debate. Players can seek advice from non-playing parters or buds, but those "supporters" cannot enter the debate with the other Players. So it went off again.....

Play on is the decision, Chinese man thinks he is being railroaded into a Deal, pressurised by the Kids mates. He's having none of it. Play on. Kid says "I'm not bothered, I'm just thinking of you guys"......

Next hand, Kid asks for a Deal again. "It only takes one hand, & you are out", a line I must heard a thouand times. Chinese Man aint impressed either, "play on".

The Camera Crew are getting tired, & it's fingers crossed for a deal. I bet Compo a Tenner a Deal will never be done, as the Kid is going about it all wrong, & wants too much.

By now, the Chinese guy - good player imo - had got a bit pressurised & tilted up, & made a lunge all-in with K-T, the Kid looked him up with Eights, first card eaight, Chinese Guy is out, all smiles & no complaints.

Now, 3 handed, a deal is tabled again, by the Kid, backed by his Railers. And the Deal is extraordinary - the Kid has offered a stunningly good Deal, he's tired, & just wants to fnish. The guy who Busted James Akenhead wanted the trophy, but a Deal was agreed quickly - VERY generously by the Kid - & it was all over within a few hands, with the Kid winning.

The Deal was, I think, (something like) £20k each, but here's the thing - the Kid offered an even split (he was Chip-Daddy by a good bit) and then said "£20k each, & we leave £1,600 for the Staff".  What? Wow! Generous indeed.

I get to do the Winners Interview, & he knocked me sideways.

"So, you are an Internet player, yes?"

"No, I hate the internet, Live play is the nuts".

Wow, I got that wrong, too.

"You got a bit tilted up by the players today?".

"Yup, they were outplaying me, & I was a bit overwhelmed".

"Well done, yadda yaddaa".

"Thank you very much tikay, I'm made up".

So I got him well & truly in all the wrong boxes. Fair play to him. I hope he plays a lot more Live Poker, & I wished him well. And meant it.

The Empire is owned by LCI, who also own The Kursaal, in Southend, & they are trying to rev up interest in re-establishing their Southend CardRoom. I get on well with Paul Whiting - blonde "PCWHIT" - & to cut a long story short, In-Poker will be at Southend next weekend, for their £300 Main Event.

I asked Paul if the structure would be the same as at The Empire -"yes" he said. Whahoo! But now I see that although the structure is identical, they've savaged the Clock - 4 x 30 mins, then 40 mins all the way. Once again, the lower-buy-i layers miss the chance to play a Big Boys Structure, & that's just wrong. The argumnent about "too slow" is relevant, but a different argument altogether. Why are poker players at lower limits so discriminated against? But nobody kicks up a fuss, so, well, juuuuune, meh, & tez. I think. I've still to discover anyone who can explain what juuuuune means, by the bye.

I gotta get to bed now, as I'm due at The Vic at Noon, & I've just realised the clocks have gone forward, so an hour of sleep has disappeared already. I fancy we have a long day ahead, at The Vic.

I'm itching to answer those questioins, by Jim, & Billy, & will, but too late tonight, sorry. I think you can guess my take, but I'll give it, anyway, when next on.

Been a grand week. I've had some clouds overhead, & they remain, but I am seeing a bit of sunshine now. And I managed to win not one, but TWO comps this week. And made the Final of both with 3 x Big Blinds. Yoiu never know, this grinding lark might come back into fashion one day. Don't tell the Kidz though. They might try it, too. Wink

Have a good weekend.

Tony, Ive just thought in about 15 years of playing I cant remember there ever been a situation where a time penalty has been issued in a British cardroom. Can you?
Do you think its about time they were and do you think it would make a difference in some players behavior/ angle shooting?

Lots of people playing a 300 dont want to be there for 2 days solid to get nothing in return, i am one of these people.

I think you are in the minority of people who enjoy sitting there for 2 days whether you cash or not.

penalties can be enforced in tournaments its just a matter of whether the TD decides to enforce them

a bigger issue for me is how do you punish someone in a cash game. Apart from making them leave the game what punishment do they ever suffer

Just stumbled on this, nice to read your take on how the final played out. One hand that still perplexes me from the final is a hand where utg limps for 4k, Kier isolates on the button to 12k. I make it 33k from the sb, utg passes and Kier asks me how much I've got left "about 65k" is the answer, and he duely ships the lot in, forcing me to fold. His hand? A9. Soul read...

Loved the 'kid' story!  Crazy deal, but fair play to him.  Nice to know there are still young ones about who, whilst they may seem uppity, are genuinely good 'kids'.  I kind of already knew they existed, but nice to hear it from the old guard.

Tracy Davies, 40, severed the first third of Mark Coghill's tongue in "an animal fashion" after asking him for a "smoochy kiss", Newcastle Crown Court heard.

The pair, who met through a lonely hearts column, had been celebrating Mr Coghill's 45th birthday, and had drunk two bottles of vodka before the attack.

During the three day trial, Newcastle Crown Court heard how Davies "turned into the likes of Mike Tyson" within seconds of being "lovely".

A recovering alcoholic, Davies had become upset because she wanted a baby and wasn't pregnant. When Mr Coghill comforted her, she told him she loved him and asked him to kiss her.

But she soon turned into a "massive monster", Mr Coghill told the court, biting down hard on his tongue after she lured him into putting it in her mouth. He screamed in pain and tapped her on the head in a bid to make her release him. Instead she chewed through his tongue, and spat it out on the floor.

Sentencing her, Judge John Evans said Davies had acted in an "animal fashion" and adding that Mr Coghill's injury was "truly appalling".

During the trial, Mr Coghill told the court how he tried to fight Davies off, but her teeth remained clamped to his tongue. "I couldn't kick her off, or push her away or anything like that. I was just hoping and praying she would stop," Mr Coghill told the court.

"Then when she did stop, she opened her mouth, and looked at me in such a way that I have never seen anyone do before. She opened her mouth, and my tongue was in her mouth. She let out a satisfaction sound, like if you have a cup of tea when you haven't had one for a few days. An mmmm sound."
