You're not the only one having a hard time 'getting' that sponsorship deal.

More WSOP 2009 (sod Jack's Jerky) splurge from Seth Palansky, who's a great guy, & the American equivelant, I guess, of Gush The Lush.

Here's his utterings on another WSOP 2009 Innovation. It is, I think, "Team Poker", which is something I just cannot get comfy with. I'm told it's huge fun - I'm sure it is - but, I dunno, I just see huge potential for skullduggery & the subsequent hoohah. But I'm the odd man out here, it's becoming very popular, & Good Luck to all who sail in her.

PS - Note the rather odd typo - "hollowed ground" (of the WSOP) when they mean, I assume, "hallowed ground". Lush will love that.

"DREAM TEAM POKER TO HOLD EVENT AT THE 2009 WORLD SERIES OF POKER

Team-Based Event to be played during final days of 40TH Annual WSOP

BEVERLY HILLS & LAS VEGAS, MAY 19, 2009: Dream Team PokerTM has taken the industry by storm in the few short months since their inaugural event. Giving team-based poker validation with their successful structure, Dream Team Poker will host a tournament at the 2009 World Series of Poker®.  The event will be held at the Rio® All-Suite Hotel & Casino from July 12-13, 2009 with the buy-in of $500 + $60 per player ($1,680 per team). The first 300 teams that pre-register on www.dreamteampoker.com will receive personalized jerseys for the tournament.

“After seeing the terrific response to the recent Dream Team Poker tournaments in Las Vegas, we thought a team-based event would be a fun addition to the end of the WSOP,” said Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP Commissioner. “The Dream Team Poker event is one of the many new elements added in 2009 that will help make this summer a memorable one for all WSOP players and fans.”

Dream Team Poker has quickly gained traction and saw significant growth in the past six months alone. The speed of progression that Dream Team Poker experienced can be attributed to the two successful events held in November 2008 and March 2009. The invitation-only opening event was sold-out within weeks and was attended by top pros and celebrities. The most recent event at Caesars Palace garnered record attention from the media, professionals and average players, who turned out by the dozens to play. The tournament sold out the Caesars poker room with 148 teams and 444 players.

“The WSOP and the Rio have really shown their commitment to the players in continuing to innovate and try new concepts,” said Daniel Delshad, CEO of Dream Team Gaming. “Bringing our brand to the Rio during the WSOP and onto the most hollowed ground in the sport is a powerful way to introduce Dream Team Poker to the world.”

Dream Team Poker has added a new dimension to the poker industry with their patent-pending team-based tournament structure. It brings a new layer of competition and strategy to the game of poker while providing team-based and individual prize pools for the players.

Dream Team Poker will have a booth outside of the Amazon Room throughout the World Series of Poker. Staff will also be on hand to answer questions about the tournament and to explain the rules and structure.

About Dream Team Poker

Dream Team Poker is a new “team-based” structure and scoring system for tournament poker. Dream Team Poker’s patent-pending scoring system allows players to compete on an individual basis while getting scored as a team, giving each player better odds and chances to win money as they compete for individual and team prizes. Casinos benefit from Dream Team Poker’s structure as players have new incentives to stay at the property after busting out, resulting in longer hotel reservations, more meals eaten at casino restaurants, and general increase on property, which generates more side play revenue.

Founded in 2007, Dream Team Poker is growing rapidly and licensing its tournament structure to many of the nation’s largest and popular casinos. It is the first gaming product developed by Dream Team Gaming, a privately held company headquartered in Beverly Hills, .

One last bit of incoming stuff apropros the 2009 WSOP Presented by JW's BJ - well, till the next incoming.

This is about the Ladies Event. And you know my views on those.

But, moving swiftly on, I was intrigued to see the different Formats the WSOP Ladies Event has been down the years. First, until as recently as 1999, it was Stud, then ROE (Stud & Limit Hold 'Em) until 2003 (!), then Limit Hold 'Em, & it was only in 2005 it became today's almost universal format of choice - NLHE. It just shows how fast poker has changed in recent times.

Jen Mason & Lucy Rokach apart, I can't think of many Females who know how to play Stud, or Limit Hold 'Em. Or many Males, come to think of it.  It's just extraordinary how long Poker remained stastic, & how far it's advanced (?) in the last 10 years or so.

GIRL POWER!  HISTORY OF WSOP WOMEN’S EVENT

Sunday, June 7, 2009 – Ladies No Limit Hold’em World Championship

The World Series of Poker first offered a women’s only event in 1977.  And every year since, the WSOP has been proud to offer an event exclusively for the ladies and with a prestigious gold bracelet on the line.

At the 40th Annual event this year, the ladies-only event is slated for Sunday, June 7 at 12 noon with a $1,000 buy-in for the No Limit Hold’em Ladies World Championship.

Since 2005, the event has been and remains a $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament.

However, the event originally started out as a Seven Card Stud tournament, with the buy-in $100.

While the game of choice offered was Seven Card Stud from 1977 through 1999, the buy-in has only been at $1,000 since 1992.  From 1982 through 1991, the ladies event had a $500 buy-in.  From 1979-1981 it was $400 and in 1978 the buy-in was $200.

In 2000, the game variation changed for the first time in the event’s history, offering a ½ Limit Hold’em, ½ Seven Card Stud event.  This event format stayed constant through 2003.

In 2004, the ladies event was just a Limit Hold’em tournament.  In 2005, it switched to No Limit Hold’em, where it has stayed.

Here’s a look at the last decade of the ladies event.  As the WSOP goes, so does the ladies event.  In the last two years alone, participation has exceeded the previous eight years combined.

YEAR    WINNER’S NAME   PRIZE   ENTRANTS
2008    Svetlana Gromenkova     $224,702        1,190
2007    Sally Anne Boyer        $262,077        1,286
2006    Mary Jones      $236,094        1,128
2005    Jennifer Tilly  $158,335        601
2004    Hung Doan       $58,530 201
2003    Barbara Rugolo  $40,700 112
2002    Catherine Brown $39,880 107
2001    Nani Dollison   $41,130 106
2000    Nani Dollison   $53,200 133
1999    Christina Pie   $34,000 85....."

More from T2009WSOPPBJWBJ.

Nice that the Ladies "have the oppoprtunity" to make a Charitable Donation from their winnings.

Annie Duke certainly helped show the world how smart, savvy and shrewd female poker players are.  The WSOP is very proud to have featured a gold bracelet event for the ladies every year since 1977.  The tradition continues this year on June 7.  The Queens of Heart team will be open to all entrants of this year's ladies event and specially-designed t-shirts and hats (see attached JPEG) have been created this year.  Those who purchase Queens of Hearts merchandise at the retail outlets at the Rio, or through our online shop www.shopwsop.com will be purchasing merchandise with all the proceeds benefiting the Nevada Cancer Institute.  In addition, those women fortunate enough to cash in this year's event will have an opportunity to donate 1% of their winnings to the Nevada Cancer Institute.  Lastly, the ladies event final table will be live streamed this year as well!

More spiel just in from Seth Palansky as to T2009WSOPPBWJBJ. I am not gonna copy this one, it goes on a bit, & these are now Daily Bulletins, which I'll Pass on if I think they merit interest.

Anyway, the gist of it - it's headed summat like "In Your Eye Joan Rivers" is that this year they are making a big Charity Effort, for Antes Up For Africa, The Nevada Cancer Institute, & several other worthy Charidees. I gather that Saint Joan Rivers suggested that, in general, Poker Players are not a very charitable bunch. As if.

And so, in every WSOP Event this year, players will have, & I quote, "the opportunity to donate 1% of their winnings, directly, via the Registration Desk". You just tick a box on your Entry Form I think, & that's that.

I'm quite sure Wild Jack will be chipping in a few $dollars, too, in exchange for naming rights.

Easily the most predictable Press Release of the Decade follows. This WILL end in tears, without a shadow of doubt, & was always nailed on to be a scam. Kiss goodbye to your money, kidz.

Michael Jackson has rescheduled the first four shows of his sell-out This Is It tour at London's O2 Arena, causing chaos for fans.

Jackson is set to play to 750,000 fans at the former Millennium Dome during 50 concerts beginning in July and stretching into next year.

However, the first gig will now be July 13 and not July 8 as originally planned.

And fans who were planning to travel to the capital for the next three shows will now have to wait until 2010 to see the King of Pop as the July 10 show has been moved to March 1; July 12 to March 3 and July 14 to March 6.

An email sent to ticket-holders said: "This afternoon Michael Jackson producers will be announcing the rescheduling and change of the opening shows in order to meet the challenges presented by such a large and technically complex concert."

It continued: "Please allow us to apologise. It was not an easy decision to change the schedule but in the end we wanted to ensure that all of Michael's fans attending the concerts get the same quality in staging and level of entertainment."

The email continued: "We are writing to let you know that the 10th July concert that you purchased tickets for at the O2 arena has now been rescheduled for 1st March 2010.

"The tickets you receive will be printed with the rescheduled date and you will have the same seat originally purchased. You do not have to do anything as you will be automatically allocated the same seats and moved to the revised date.

"We understand the inconvenience this may have caused and for this reason we have secured some excellent hotel deals for Michael Jackson fans travelling to London on these rescheduled dates."

Well, "very", as the subsequent, & excellent, replies suggested.

Though it did not tilt me - yes, tilt me, & I don't do tilt - as much as the "players will have the opportunity to donate 1% of their winnings to charity" line did, which angsted me on an epic scale. "How thoughtful of them" was my initial thought.

But really, both reactions are unfair, & wrong. Americans just speak, & write, differently, & we know from blonde that the written word can & does come across so wrong sometimes.

And to be fair, the structure for the Ladies Event at the WSOP has always been exactly & precisely the same as that for the men, or "mixed", Events, so there can be no suggestion that Harrahs are really being patronising. (Except, of course, in that they even hold a Ladies Event, but let's not go there).

I'm also still reeling from the realisation that the Ladies WSOP Event was Stud until just a few years ago - astonishing factoid, that.
