As a little boy I would have spent hours playing by this pond. It has everything. Sticklebacks, frogspawn, waterboatmen, bullrushes, the lot.

Is it just me getting the urge to push you in at this point??  Grin

Lovely photos - where exactly is it?

Some geezer called Charles Bennion bought the land (around the turn of the century I think) and he gave it to the people "For them to enjoy"

Well I certainly enjoyed it, bless his cotton socks.

The folly at the top bears a plaque that says "This was built in honour of Charles Bennion, but his memorial is all around you"

I noticed some little holes, like miniature mole hills. Mrs Red said they were worm-holes but I was convinced they were made by bees.

We had to wait an age before I was proved right, but it was sooo worth it. (I so seldom get to be right)

lol..you can actually see her think two things;

1; Why am I modelling this for my dad to stick on a poker forum?

2; How come I'm used to this by now?

It was still warm, I bet it was still attached to the stag half an hour ago. Look at the end, see how white and clean it is.

And I now of course have to ask...what happened to make the stag lose his antler? (I'm a city slicker, see? I know nothing about these things)

From the web.

Why do deer shed their antlers?
Male deer grow and shed their antlers every year. Antlers are composed of true bone. Antler growth begins in late March or early April and the growing bone is covered by skin with numerous blood vessels (velvet). In late summer and early fall, testosterone levels increase. This hormone elevation results in the antlers hardening and the buck rubs off the drying velvet. When testosterone levels begin to drop, antlers start to shed

I'm saving it as a Shalaylee.

It's one of those rather clever-needs-no-maintenance-lasts-for-ever-then-some gate closers, such as we saw at that beautiful little church on the way to Cardiff, just East of Monmouth.

A lead weight, a wire, a pulley wheel. & by clever balancing, the laws of physics do the rest, unfailingly reliably.

You did tell me it's name, but I deleted the "Directory of Gate Closers" File in my mind.
