Mrs Red and I went to the Comet Superstore at Rugby today to buy a telly. We found the one we wanted, 549.99 spondolies.

I tried to haggle with the manager, but I might as well have asked him if I could roger his Mrs. He was having none of it. "But!" He said, "If you can find it cheaper elsewhere, we will do a price match"

SWMBO and I retired to a nearby hostelry spent an hour or so getting ourselves on the outside of an excellent lunch. Then I rang Curry's and easily negotiated a 5% price reduction which, after a little gentle persuasion was rounded up to £25. (not to be sneezed at)

Thusly armed, we went back into Comet to request a price-match, and guess what? The no good SOB refused to do it.

"£15 is my best offer" He said, "You're not going to drive to Fosse Park to save a tenner are you?"

"Yes" we replied in unison. And we did.

Regards,

Tom and Muzelley.

Verbal contract - he's obliged imho to honour what you agreed....

I find it usually depends on the embarrasment factor..

My children will no longer shop with me for High value stuff as I always stand my ground (loudly) and invariably get a deal. Sometimes they just won't budge but most times I will get a few bob off. If snooty kid won't deal I look for the gaffer (who is authourised to do these sort of deals).

I'm a good haggler, but Mrs Red is a past master.

Today, Mrs Red and I are off to a little horse fair at Kenilworth in Warwickshire.

A quick whizz round, hear the gossip and see what's what, then we're going to try to get away early so that we can have a look at the castle and the clock.

After that, with a bit of luck and the wind blowing my way, I'm off to DTD.

What did you get?

A strange looking, odd shaped, unfamiliar, expensive tranklement.

I hate change!

...and what size tranklement is it?

Rather personal question, isn't it?

Well we didn't made it to the castle or the clock. The fair was far too interesting.

We knew it was going to be busy when we got to the roundabout next to the car park.

Old Lesley holding court and selling a few straps. He has been coming to the horse fairs for over 70 years.

Tom - I want you to take Ralph & me to one of these Horse Fairs please. I'd just love to hear you "think out loud" as you eye up horses & wandering folk. Deal? Sorry to "speak for" Ralph, but I know he'd love it too.
