I'm pretty sure all it shows is that most people couldn't recognize the difference between him playing and any other random busker playing the violin.

The question is  - if you substituted his playing for somebody who was merely competent - at one of his $100 a ticket concerts - how many of the audience would be able to tell tell difference there?

That wasn't the question, the question was would someone of no prior knowledge of this music (or even the instrument) recognise how good it was.

Geo

for sure....but I think the second question is somehow more interesting.

Not really, as the majority would have known what they were coughing up $100 for so would would know the level of what they are listening to and imagine most would recognise the difference.

I don't know that that's true at all. I think people can easily be duped into buying old rope.

this was basically my first thought. I'm sure that most people who go to watch stuff like this guy and other more expensive forms of entertainment do it because that's what they think they should be doing, not because they have any knowledge about music/art/theatre/opera

That item is perfect for here Kin.

If this diary was a TV programme it would be BBC4.

Not sure about that. If it were a "newspaper", it'd be "The Sun".

On our local retail park we used to have a Focus DIY store. For some reason, it's now a Wickes DIY store, and guess what they have inside...... ?

Give up?

They only have a 'Repair & Restore' section!

What, I hear you ask, is a Repair and Restore section? Well is a place where you can buy the materials to cobble things up with. Things to make things with. Things that you look for when you say to your self "I could mend this if I had a piece of whatsit"

It's the stuff the really old fashioned ironmongers used to stock. Flat steel bar, threaded rod, welded link chain, angle iron, aluminium sheeting, checker-plate, brass dowel, perspex etc.

I can't wait for something to break.

Upon reflection, yes, an unfair & low blow, & I withdraw it. I confused your Diary with Vinni's.

It's obviously nothing like that comic, he's just jealous Tom.

I was out today buying bits and pieces for around the house, including some plant stakes and some nylon thread (like fishing line).

Prize for the first person to guess what they're for.
