Shod and wearing 'coats'. Only got a quick glimpse at them really, but they looked to be in excellent condition from what I could see.

No, they didn't look like Gypsy horses at all. More like showjumping horses, well that was my first impression.

Not Gypsy horses then. (For a change) Why? Is it always Gypsy horses causing trouble?

Not Gypsy horses then. (For a change) Why? Is it always Gypsy horses causing trouble? Actually, yes. It often is. there are two main reasons. 1: Gypsy horses are frequently put into fields for just the one night while the owner breaks a journey. Sometimes the fences on these temporary fields aren't checked or repaired as well as thay might be. Because they are in unfamiliar territory the horses don't actually know where the boundaries are and the will often push through weak spots in the fencing where a 'resident' horse would just accept it as a known boundary. 2: People let them out because it's fun to make trouble for the Gypsies.

My sister has a few horses/ponies and Tom and there are some pretty sick kids about that often do far worse than just let them out.
Did you see the picture of the dog and the fire cracker that has been posted a lot on the net recently.

I've seen a few RTA's involving horses. it's never pretty. I can imagine, they're bloody big beasts. The police weren't trying to contain them, more escorting them and protecting them and cars from each other. One of the cars was in front to warn oncoming vehicles I'd guess, the other taking up the rear. The van sped off in another direction, to head them off? I'd actually seen the van a mile or two from home, and it pulled out in front of me very slowly at a roundabout, and at first I thought they were looking for someone, but it was obviously the horses or someone involved they were after. I followed them as they headed the same way I was going, and then they suddenly reversed and went down a side road. I got to my estate and then they passed by about a minute later.

No. Not seen the dog pic, (Don't want to) but I've seen quite a few mutilated horses. A friend of mine used to regularly find his horses with darts sticking in them. Someone cut most of the flesh from one poor animal. It had to be put down.

Also a great top gear re-run where they put train wheels on an old Jag and run it on the rails.
