Can anyone tell me when the law requiring HGV drivers to wear seat belts was introduced please?

Was it introduced?

The link is from 2009 and seems to suggest it isn't law, which I find hard to believe tbh. All other sources seem to relate only to 1983 when law was introduced for cars and light vans.

One of the opening paragraphs in the link is:

Of course, even when seat belts are fitted they are not always worn. A decade ago, when the Government were thinking about introducing the legislation, it was estimated that only one in 10 truck drivers regularly wore a seat belt when fitted. That low level of usage remains a problem today, and I know that the Minister and his colleague are anxious to address the problem, and rightly so.

So it seems legislation wasn't in place then.

Thanks Geo. It seem like you had the same trouble as me.

I was surprised to find that seatbelts were now a legal requirement for HGV drivers. I drive trucks occasionally and I wondered how long I've been unwittingly breaking the law.

hand yourself in Tom, the last thing you want is an unexpected knock at the door

No need Sov. I'm not expecting an unexpected knock at the door.

I got pulled over last week by an unmarked police car, managed to go through a red light, when i was in the back of the car a call came over the radio.  A pub landlord had rang & shopped one of his punters for drink driving.  Not sure how relevant it is but found it interesting that the landlord would serve the guy all night then call the policy when he left in his car

Perhaps he didn't know he was going to leave in his car.

perhaps, i was a bit pissed at the time so hadnt properly thought it through.

Too good.

Tell him I said Oo arr hello.

He's 8 and called Jay.

I wanted to call him Ace but everyone said I was mad , he was actually Samuel at birth right up until the registrar asked his name for the birth certificate, we looked at each other and said Sam wasn't right. Cue 10 minute name changing discussion while the lady waited patiently quill pen in hand  Cheesy

I just asked him what he knows about Gypsies, nothing he replied.  We just don't seem to meet any round where I live.
Maybe I could bring him over one day ?

He says hi btw.

he's welcome to come to my place anytime, but he would probably be bored witless.

Better to bring him to one of the Roma history events like the one that Ralph came to.

Just thinking aloud here.

When people fall down, why do they say they overbalanced when the truth is, they didn't balance enough?

May be they should say they over compensated in the balance department.

It's the same as "head over heels" doesn't make much sense to me - whereas "arse over tit" does.

I think the word might be derived from the image of a set of scales where too much weight is added.

I remember years ago in Derby having a differance of opinion with my good friend Dipak "the doc" Makawana when he mentioned that someone had taken a liberty with a common acquaintance. I concurred with him and said that they had taken advantage of the poor unfortunate.

No! he exclaimed they didn't take advantage, they took DISadvantage, and nothing that I could say would budge him from the absolute conviction that he was correct.
