Wow! At first I though the eagle had accidentally dropped the goat.

Viewer discretion is advised.

Sorry Red, must call bull on that one - faked by a spanish film maker to show how it was thought golden eagles killed goats. The goat being 'attacked' was tethered and a tamed eagle set on it, then a gutted goat with paper stuffing to lighten it used for the eagle carrying sequences.

While in theory it would be possible for a golden eagle to force a goat off a cliff to its death, itt's more likely that the goat feeds they get are from goats that fall by accident.

THis all had a run through a few months back after film of an eagle attempting to carry off a toddler in montreal was released. It too was faked.

Cheers Rod. That's more interesting than the original story.

You're wasted here.

My red poll is back, (that's him almost out of shot at the bottom of the frame) and this time he's brought the family.

I just managed to get a quick snap before they all buggered off.

Looking back, it's almost a year exactly since he was here last time.

Woah!

I've just seen a lesser red poll on t' bird table. Must try to get a picture.

Cover me, I'm goin' in...

Couldn't get a good pic. Bad light/rain... that's my excuse anyway.

This is my best effort.  (That's the little bastard on the left)

Glad the redpoll's back - not had many interesting wee birds lately, but happy with the usual customers, and the current war over the feeder tree between a couple of robins.

Saw this picture and was fascinated:

It's the Initiation Well in Sintra, Portugal & descends 27m straight down to join a system of tunnels under the estate with a chapel, grottoes etc. I've been in the area before but didn't know this was there, one for a future visit I think.

When I saw that picture I thought you were going to tell me it was a type of bird nest or something.

Oscar Pistorius 'on verge of suicide'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-21739320

Mr Azzie, known by Mr Pistorius as "uncle Mike", said the Olympic athlete had been forced to sell his race horses to cover the spiralling legal fees.

"He has no confidence in his tone of voice and he is almost like someone that is walking around in circles and doesn't know where he is going," Mr Azzie said in the forthcoming BBC3 documentary, Oscar Pistorius: What Really Happened

I don't get it. How can there be a fair trail if articles like this and programmes entitled Oscar Pistorius: What Really Happened? are broadcast?

There are no jury trials in South Africa, it is judge only.  I think the background to the decision is based on the apartheid past of the country.

I doubt the program would be legal to show in South Africa, but I get your point.

BTW did some reading on faking of wildlife documentaries, I remember the BBC getting stick for the captive polar bear den sequence, although I'd say that was allowable and sensible - the logistics of a wild one would make it impossible.
THe worst case I read about was the old documentary that showed the lemmings going over a cliff, to show what was a myth, they actually filmed lemmings they'd paid Innuit kids to catch, even using a snow covered turntable, then herded them over a cliff.....

Tom had a couple of these little beauts in the garden at the weekend. Never seen one before, had to look up what they were. Dissapeared before I could get a snap.

Bridie is cooking pasta for lunch so I had a snack while i was waiting.

She said, "That's the first time I've seen someone have a bacon sandwich as an amuse-bouche."

I had to look it up, then I lolled.

Every meal is an amuse-bouche, for some!

The lemming film makers must have genuinely believed the myth otherwise  there would have been no point in recreating it.
