I know this is a page or two late but I went to bed before you responded and then you and Bobalike got into some weird quoting/courtship ritual, you posted lots of pics from a wedding and then Tikay got involved.
But..
They were priced at 3/6, as in three shillings and sixpence.
They probably weren't because nowadays the price is hidden in small print on the back, not boldly printed on the front cover.
Correct! The actual price was about fifteen quid. Lol - I just assumed there were five more books in the series #postdecimalbaby this. I was staring at it for ages with absolutely no clue, if you posted the answers up a bit quicker red you'd probably get more readers That was my fault - I spotted it (being old enough to remember books costing Three and Six) but wasn't sure if Red wanted to kill it off that quickly. By the way 3/6 (17.5p) in 1946 when Books v Cigarettes was first published is the equivalent of around £6.30 today. Books have become rather pricey haven't they?

Hi Tom, great pics from the wedding. I have been to a couple of gypsy weddings, sooooooo much drinking and great fun. A real old gypsy that comes into our local pub nearly always at some point during the night comes out with his famous sayin 'you can always tell a gypsy, but you cant tell him much' lol always makes me chuckle
Haha! Sounds about right. BTW- Gypsies are an ethnic minority group and as such we have fought long and hard to have our ethnic status recognised. After a century or so of lobbying, we won, which means that when writing the word 'Gypsy', you should use an upper-case G. This fact is often cynically & deliberately ignored in most written communications, especially those emanating from some Government departments and virtually all news media.

1p off a pint of beer. Seriously, what's the point? I mean, even if you drink 8 pints a night, 5 nights a week you will only save 40p.

So in essence then, the beer companies have actually put beer up by a penny?

Yes. It's like a very small tax-break for the breweries/retailers, so that they make more profit and it's meant to stimulate the economy, etc.

Yes. It's like a very small tax-break for the breweries/retailers, so that they make more profit and it's meant to stimulate the economy, etc. It appears that the revenue from beer & cider sales in the UK is ~ 3.4 billion. I bet 1% of that is quite a lot.
