I've been out for a couple of 20 / 30 mile rides on nice quiet roads btw. I loved it.

Some great pics Geo, cheers!

I've a tarp 3m x 3m, so would hope to get the bike a bit sheltered as well, with the bike being the back wall to the lean to & the walking poles holding the front up... need to get the bike to try it.

Red, a problem with the plan - you need a full Motorbike license to drive on the continent. I'm looking to have mine y next summer, but maybe a trip round hte Welsh coast, or into the highlands next year instead if you're not too interested in getting the full thing.

Bugger!

Always intended to do some UK trips first, perhaps starting with an overnighter in someones garden, moving on to a couple of days wild camping, then a week etc... Baby steps, but want to go abroad eventually.

Ah well, If I have to get a full license then I will. Do I have to go on an expensive course or can I do it myself?

£121.50 in test fees.

£31 Theory
£15.50 Module 1
£75 Module 2.

Do Mod 1 & 2 on a bike of less than 125 cc & you get an A1 licence - restricted to 125cc or less.

Use a bike of 350cc (I think) and you get an A2 - restricted to 350cc or less (no real point in this for folk of our age).

Use a bike of 500cc and you get a full license unrestricted. (Direct Access).

Both A2 & Direct Access mean hiring bikes & booking lessons - since you have to be on a lesson to be on them until you get a license. You could sit a test on your C90 without lessons I suppose - and if you don't want anything bigger you wouldn't be bothered by the restrictions.

Bikes are lots of fun but isn't a C90 with a top speed of 40mph going to be hard work round Europe? Wouldn't you be better off with something bigger?

Pretty sure top end is roughly 60mph. 50-55 comfortable travelling speed.

I'm hoping they'll let me join in with something bigger - I'm getting a 125 till the spring & then hopefully something bigger for the summer. I'll be the assistant outrider...

PS I'd look like this on a C90

I know what you mean, but I don't want to do it fast. I'd rather cover less distance and see more.

I look at it like this. On the back roads on a bike, 40mph seems fast. On the motorway, 80mph seems slow.

Come to think of it, I've hired loads of motorbike and scooters when I've been abroad.

I'm sure you're right. There should be an obligation for the hire firms to tell you that when you present your license though. Their price list always says 'Including insurance'.

There should be yes.

Where do you begin?

Such irony, in so many ways.
