Dear Tom
I am baby-sitting this weekend
15 months old. 10 stone
Help!
Blimey Rich. Just saddle it up and ride it around the garden until it gets tired.
It looks like a leonberger. What is it?
It is a leonberger.
a very submissive dog, but friendly so far.
the walk shortly is going to be fun.

Who's is it Rich, and why (f you know) did they decide on a leonberger?
Is it a dog or a bitch?

my kids mum helps run a pet-sitting/grooming and stripping service. particularly busy in summer and school hols where owners prefer to put their dogs with a family in "home" surroundings than in kennels. i assume it must be cheaper too
she often volunteers for the slightly tricky dogs when they come in from clients. often problem/ex-rescue dogs with some behavioural issues which she advises/works on or the big breeds
she had several bernese going back over the last 15 years
this is one of the dog-sits. a bitch. apparently 2/3 the size of a male at comparable age
she then asks if i can do today as she has to see a relative in hospital and here i am.
i have decided to walk the border terriers and the leonberger seperately. lol.

I've just been reading up on the breed history on wikki. In mitigation to the obvious drawbacks, they seem to have a lot going for them, although an average lifespan of 7 years would put me off.

He's the first Romanian to sign for Arsenal.

Sorry Ralph. I knew where you were coming from, but I wanted an excuse to highlight a common misconception. I hope you don't mind.

When I lived in Toronto I used to virtually live in the snooker hall and there were two good players both called Leo. One was known as "Leo The Gypsy" and the other was "Leo The Goof" who was slightly the better player of the two but I digress.
Leo The Gypsy would proudly proclaim that he was a "Romanian". Does that mean that he was a Romani who came from Romania or was he just pulling our collective plonkers?

He was very probably a Romani who came from Romania Ralph, which I realise only adds to the confusion.

I used to virtually live in a snooker hall too Ralph, back in the day . Our obligatory old bloke who sits on the same chair every day was a guy we called Italian Pete. He immortalised himself one day by running from the bar to the area where the tables were, grabbing a player by the throat and screaming,
"Hey! Why you kicka my dog and call him fuck off?"

Italians seem to have a great way of speaking the English language. When I first started playing holdem in the early 1990's I used to play a lot at The Hamblin Grand in Derby and there was a good natured Italian guy called Camilo who played there too. In those days you could get a new deck of cards any time by just shouting out to the TD, and it happened all too frequently.
Camilo was one of the worst offenders for getting the deck changed, it seemed like he shouted out for a new deck every time he lost a hand, even when someone he didn't like won a hand, except Camilo used to shout "ginger fucking cards".
Eventually anytime anyone wanted a deck change all they had to shout was "ginger".
