When the microwave instructions say 'Pierce film lid' how many times do you pierce?

Mrs Red and I differ wildly on this one.

I'd say half a dozen or so, but if you think that's tricky could you tell me how you are supposed to "pierce film lid and stir half-way through cooking" as per the instructions for oven heating sainsbury's macaroni cheese.

You are my food Guru Ralph.

I'm so relieved to hear that you buy frozen meals. At a stroke of your keyboard you have removed any trace of stigma and made the whole thing de rigueur.

I usually plump for a languid stretch or sometimes a yawn.

Not too long ago (In Red Dog years) frozen food was horrible. Now, it's mostly excellent

I believe he has a bespoke solid silver film lid piercer though....

6 for me too.  3x2 would be standard.  Confused by the fresh looking uncooked basil on the top.  Mine has died for the winter, and you wouldn't by a whole basil plant just to take that much off and put it on a ready meal.

It's a Google image used for illustration purposes only. Probably taken in the summer.  Smiley

I seem to have developed a writing phobia, which is strange because I've always enjoyed writing.

I think it started about a year ago when I had to write some important but onerous stuff in answer to some government consultations, since then it's been slowly getting worse. Now it's got to the point where I will do almost anything instead of write.

Sometimes I start off wanting to do it but after a sentence or two it starts to feel like the hardest thing in the world. Suddenly I don't want to do it any more, I feel tired and anxious, so I make an excuse and leave it until later.

Let me give you an example. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that Tony hadn't been around much so I sent him a brief note asking if everything was OK, he wrote back assuring me everything was fine and explaining that he was just terribly busy. Then he went on to waffle about several things that I was interested in, and it was waffle presented in such a way as to invite comment. Then he asked after the family and signed off. If we had been talking on long range radio he would have said 'Over'.

Immediately I started to reply, but I couldn't seem to marshal my thoughts or find the words I wanted, so I left it for later.

The following week, Tony wrote to me again, again I tried to reply and again I put it off. This week I sent him a note saying IOU 1 PM.

There have been several really interesting (or infuriating) post on blonde that I really wanted to reply to, but unless I can do it in a couple of lines I don't bother.

The worst part is, I don't really care. (Then again, perhaps I do, or I wouldn't be struggling to write this)

Actually, just re-read it.

You were correct.

Morning Tom.

How much do you think a budget wheelchair costs? £75?, £100?

Saw this today.

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/timesappeal/article4637838.ece

If you think that story through from start to finish, it beggars belief.

Carrying a disabled kid SIXTY miles. And the destination? A squalid, dirty, stinking, unheated, refugee camp, where the only running water is along muddy paths & roads.

The article is written a bit too cheesy for my liking, but the facts underneath it are what matter.

Writers Block, the bane of a few lives

carry a small notebook around with you, and jot down stuff as it comes to you rather than feeling as if you are having to force it at a particular moment with a blank screen...

Tell me about it. am trying to write my Bluff column today. Been staring at a blank piece of paper for an hour. I've had a month to do this, & the deadline is noon today. I am such an idiot.

My mood was not helped by having a quick look at my last Bluff article - it's part of my method, to remind myself of the tone, style & tempo needed for a Magazine. It's different to blonde, & different again to Next Door.

So I looked it up & FOUR exclamation marks have been added by the Editor.
